Agreed with Jark, not Shoat - So Young is my 2nd favourite song of theirs. Sharon's violin solo is stunning, it's a song full of joy and yet feels sad at the same time. This is definitely one where I prefer the remix to the original too, so thank you K-Klass!

04. What Can I Do [Tin Tin Out Remix]

[#3 in the UK charts, 1998]

(Average score: 7.69)

And Gooddelta makes it a hatrick with his predictions! Will it last?

This one built on the work started by Dreams three months before, and catapaulted The Corrs into the big time, earning them their first top 3 hit, and rocketing Talk On Corners back up to #1 in the album charts, helping ensure it became the biggest seller in the UK that year.

It also continued a trend started off with Todd Terry on Dreams for relying on remixes to play up to the radio playlists. This particular one, I can't really decide if I prefer the remix or the original. This definitely has its charms. The strings are lovely.

What Can I Do was a nice track. though whenever i saw the vid i always used to think wtf at the bath in the field?
Another case of remix over the original for me with What Can I Do. The beat/strings are great, I wish they could have somehow kept the 'do do do do' intro of the original though as that's the only thing I prefer about it.

03. Runaway [Original Version]

[#49 in the UK charts, 1995]

(Average score: 8.06)

Despite the remix being by far the bigger hit, it's the original version that seemed to capture the BJ imagination more, and is probably the more likely to pop up on the airwaves. Even at the time of the remix, I recall hearing the original version just as often. It has far more charm, intimacy and feeling, and I'm a sucker for a power ballad.

So Gooddelta has correctly predicted all of the top 6 so far. But has he got the #2 and #1 right?

Loved "Radio", such a huge hit here. "Runaway" is also a classic ballad. Don't care much for "So Young" or the remix of "What Can I Do" - but its definitely not bad.

I have to say, I rarely hear the original of Runaway on the radio :o But I do still hear the Tin Tin Out remix a fair bit. It's the only Corrs song a lot of stations still play, and deservedly so. 3rd is a bit of an injustice, but as I predicted so I'm not shocked - it walks all over the rest of their back catalogue for me though.

In other news, I bought a compilation called 100 Hits - Summer the other day and it has both I Never Loved You Anyway (odd choice) and Radio (In Blue version) on it :o I wonder who's mind is instantly taken back to summer with those December releases?

I hope my predictions don't come 100% true as Dreams>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Breathless

 'Breathless' $h!ts all over 'Dreams' :o It's amazing.

It's good, but Dreams is epic. I wouldn't even put Breathless in my top 10 Corrs singles  I did enjoy the two b-sides on the single though, Judy and Head In The Air!

Well I can exclusively reveal that one of you will be happy, and the other not so.

02. Breathless

[#1 in the UK charts, 2000]

(Average score: 8.4)

It was the band's biggest hit, but has to settle for second with the good people of Buzzjack.

This was the big comeback single from an act who had spent the past two years dominating both the singles and album charts, so I suppose it was no real surprise to see this one take off so. It did mark the beginning of The Corrs' departure from the cute folk-pop of old, and they headed more into big, loud Shania Twain territory, helped along of course by Twain's husband, a strange man who insists on going by the name of "Mutt". Indeed.

It's a fine enough, if not groundbreaking pop song though.

01. Dreams

[#6 in the UK charts, 1998]

(Average score: 8.5)

I don't know what it really says when the most popular of The Corrs' tracks is the one they didn't write themselves.

On the other hand, this was their breakthrough hit in the UK, it got them the attention of Radio 1 and the mainstream media, without which would any of the rest have happened? And weirdly enough, despite the Fleetwood Mac original being a routine folk pop/rock number, which should have been right in The Corrs' comfort zone, they actually decided to challenge themselves and try and head for the dancefloor market. Fair play to them for trying. And it's one of the my most favourite cover versions of all time. So a deserving winner I guess.

'Breathless' is a timeless classic imo. It's amazing. 'Radio' is p*** poor in comparison imo. :( Bleh at it winning. Ah well. Nice countdown though Shoat! Nice to have a trip down memory lane once in a while. Only regret is, I didn't think I liked The Corrs enough to vote in this, wish I did now though :(

I wonder how an Atomic Kitten rate would do :kink:

'Radio' didn't win!

If you want an Atomic Kitten rate, you may have to do it yourself! I can't stand them!

I meant 'Dreams' haha. :drama: (I honestly do not know why I said 'Radio')

Also :o at you not liking Atomic Kitten! I dunno why, but I thought they'd be up your street lol. They're amazing haha. I may have to look into doing a rate for it then ;D

Thank god for that. I like Breathless just fine, catchy pop song, but they have released several other songs which are much better, Dreams being one of them. Can't say I listen to the original in this case (by original I mean the non-mixed version), but the Todd Terry remix gave the song the extra oomph it needed to stand out. Definitely one of those covers that manages to be better than the original version.

Great rate Shoat!

I was thinking of perhaps Natalie Imbruglia or Texas next. They're more up my street than Atomic Kitten!

I did also say I would post the "alternative" results - how the placings would have looked without the "unknown" factor. How it would have looked if the ??? marks had been removed from the averages. It's fairly interesting - Closer and Long Night in particular seem to be the main beneficiaries. Maybe if they'd had more exposure in the media, they'd have achieved bigger and better things?

On the other hand, the remixed Runaway and Would You Be Happier both collapse in the rankings. Which suits me fine.

Oooh I'll let you keep going then. I think I'd take part in a Nat Imb one. Not Texas though. Actually I might do. Even if it's just to support 'Sleep'

Nat Imbruglia next PLEASE.

Fantastic job with this Adam although the results have baffled me throughout. Is Breathless really a better song than I Never Loved You Anyway? Is their rather predictable cover of Dreams seriously than great originals like Angel and Give Me A Reason? Not in my book but there you go.

Agree with all of this post, love the Todd Terry remix - really great, a folk-pop-dance cover of Fleetwood Mac shouldn't have worked at all but it was great

Long Night 4th? Yeah, it's not that good. Runaway would have been ridiculously low too.
