I'm sure it'll be every bit as excellent as the second series (which was very excellent indeed). Alex Drake is one of my favourite televisual characters and of course Gene Hunt is a (sometimes rather brutal) delight. His best scenes are always the ones where he's more vulnerable I find.

I've been catching up on Series Two this week, I'm literally watching the final episode right now so I'm ready for tonight  Excitment ^_^

Enjoyed it, noticed they used a song from 1985 instead of 83 at the end (Walking On Sunshine), but a good episode.

Loved the 80s classics with commentary from Gene Hunt via the red button after the show.

amazing return for the series. I just hope Doctor is just as good tonight.

Well this is really on a role. Tonight's episode was mind-blowing. I had shivers, particularly when Gene and Alex danced. You just knew that momentary bliss wasn't going to last, didn't you? I can barely contain myself in anticipation for next week. I really hope it's not a let-down.

Agreed it was an amazing episode as the rest of the series have been also. It's a shame next weeks is the last ever as it's my favourite show at the moment although it's probably best for the show.

great show, i wonder what the outcome will be and what going back to 1983/73 actually means?!?

well I for one thought it was fantastic although quite outlandish at times and I didn't really know what was going on until the end, I just hope we don't get a new series with the bloke at the end.

Sadly, that is very definitely the end ... but what a fabulous ending ... a bit sad though. I'm glad it ended the way I thought it would ... I did fear they'd make it all complicated and WTF ... but it made sense (although I doubt this was an ending they had in mind when the very first Life on Mars was conceived.)

Glenister & Simm are to be reunited for a TV drama next year though ... looks good. The excellent Marc Warren is involved too ... won't say too much about the very hit-and-miss Max Beesley though.

Oh my good god, that was a truly sensational ending to what surely has to be considered one of the best drama series of the decade...

I was seriously impressed as it was, with the videotape reveals (I hadn't even considered that Chris, Shaz and Ray might have been transported from another world too) and Gene being so broken, only to rally the troops for one final showdown ('you murdered my Quattro!') but then when they got to the pub and Alex and Gene had to say goodbye it was emotional beyond words. I actually cried and I've not cried watching television in an age. Two of the greatest characters ever created and like all the best love stories it wasn't allowed to happen.

A spectacular hour of television which I won't forget any time soon.

Loved it, is it wrong that the "Wonderwall" clip during Shaz's tape makes me want them to do a '90s one? I know it would be completely wrong and they'd have to make the ending even more outlandish (and I doubt they'd make a character as good as Alex Drake) but just for the music... I'm miffed that they didn't use The Final Countdown last night -_-

I miss this already! we had a bet on about the truth and I won, I just had a feeling that gene had died before fullfilling his lifes potential and all this was about not wanting to give up life, I read a book called Pincher martin long ago, when the same sort of thing emerged at the end of the book. but it didnt start coming together till this series -

just loved it! it was such fun working out the clues, although I still wonder about some bits..ie the world wasnt real, but in whose mind was it? as gene wouldnt have even known about quattros or the rough policing of the 70s and 80s - he was in the era of dixon of dock green, as shown at the very end. what will I do fridays now?? it was a high light, have to admit I cried, knowing gene was such the hard man, yet had died such a pointless way before even doing anything..I want it back!!!

watched it again today and it was still top notch. It's a shame that this has ended as it was by far my favourite program on TV but I suppose it is for the best.

Agreed. Although I would have loved a third sequal series based in 1993: Jump They Say.

i think the only way another sequel would work would be to explore Gene more and make him the main character.

A further sequel could never ever work now. We've already got to know Gene as much as is possible and there's no mystery left to explore. It ended at the perfect time.

A great ending to a very cleverly written series, and well-acted. I think it was a satisfactory ending.

All credit go to the team behind the series, production, writers and cast.
