May 1, 201015 yr Author JUST FINISHED MINE WOO! Super excited. Anyway, as you all probably know, it's now May 1st and you can start uploading your albums! But before you do so, some of you probably want some help removing tags. There are two ways to do this that I can help you with, one that's universal and one for people using Macs / iTunes (though a lot of it is probably translatable). First Method Make your CD a playlist. Burn that playlist to a blank CD. By burning it to a disc, it'll remove literally all info about the album. Make sure nothing is checked like 'include CD text'. Take those .mp3's and make them their own folder (doing this on your desktop makes it super easy). Then right click on that folder and hit "compress "folder title"" or "send to -> compressed zip folder" depending on whether you use a Mac or a PC. Though, remember, if you have a specific order that you want these to be in, it can be a good idea to go in with iTunes / whatever media player you use and title the tracks like 'untitled 1' or '#1' so that whoever gets your CD plays them in the right order. Or, that may not be important. It can also be fun to mess with the artist and album tags (for instance, changing all the album tags to the name of your CD). Second Method This is a bit more complicated and is more directed to those with Macs and who use iTunes, though I know you can do the exact same thing with a PC, you just may have to sort of work it out a little more for yourself. 01. Create a playlist in iTunes with your CD. 02. The idea behind all of this is that we're going to be doing a mass removal of tags with iTunes. However, you don't want to lose your original data right? First, go to iTunes -> Preferences, you should be on the general tab. Look for something that says 'Important Settings'. Click this. Change to Import Using: MP3 Encoder. In the settings below, make sure that you switch it to something lie 'Higher (192 kbps)' or even preferably 320 kbps under Custom. I'm not sure of the mechanics of this (besides that 320 is good sound quality / anything below 192 isn't really at all), but I know that really whatever you put it'll all end up sounding the same. iTunes isn't meant to be used to convert sound quality. Just put something high just in case. But don't fret over this step, the main part is to make sure that your important settings are set to MP3. 03. Highlight all of the songs in your playlist, and go to Advanced -> Create MP3 Version. This will create duplicate files of all of those MP3s in your playlist and send them to your iTunes library. Go through your library, grab the duplicates and put them in a NEW playlist. You should now have two playlists, one with the original and one with the copies. 04. In the one with your COPIES, highlight all of the songs and right click -> get info. Everything should be blank because none of your MP3s should have any data that's similar. CHECK EVERYTHING. This includes album art. This will remove all of your tags, though album art can be a little tricky, so I'd recommend going through and checking that all the album art has been removed afterward. A great way to make sure that no album art remains is to upload your own album artwork (steal it, I don't care) and use it for every track, thus overwriting the original album art it may have had. 05. Now you can go in and edit the album / artist / track names with your own preferences. Again, I recommend titling the tracks '1' '#1' '3' 'Untitled 4' etc. You NEED to do this with this method because you can't do a mass removal of the track names. 06. Once you're done with all that artsy stuff, make a folder on your desktop with the name of your CD. Highlight all of the songs in the playlist and click and drag them to the folder. Or copy and paste them. Or, if you can't do either of these on windows because I can't remember the time in which I had a PC lawlz, you can find where your MP3's are located by right clicking and hitting 'Show in Finder' / 'Show in Separate Folder' or whatever. And then you can copy the individual tracks to the new folder. 07. Once everything is in your folder (and make sure the tracks aren't like Bad Romance.mp3, if they are, right click and change the file name, but they shouldn't be really), right click on the folder and hit 'Compress 'foldername'' or 'Send to -> compressed zip folder', whatever works for whatever computer you're working on. - - - GREAT! You now have a zip folder! What do you do with it? Go to mediafire.com. I've decided I'm not accepting anything from any other filesharing site because Mediafire is easily the best and simplest and there's no waiting time. Just use mediafire, please. I don't give a damn if you have a rapidshare account. And it's really easy, click 'Upload to Mediaifre (without an account)' find and select your zip folder, and you're good to go! Once it's done uploading, copy the hyperlink that goes to your file and send it in a PM to me with any other info you want to send to the person who gets your CD. - - - Happy sharing! And remember, these are due by May 11th. You may get a little leeway with this if you ask nicely, but try to meet the deadline. And obviously ask questions here if you're having trouble removing tags / uploading.
May 1, 201015 yr In the first method, do you not need to put that you have to burn it back to your computer with tags removed?
May 1, 201015 yr Author Doesn't burning a CD pretty much automatically remove the tags? I never do this method because I never burn blank CDs. But I'll put that anyway.
May 1, 201015 yr Doesn't burning a CD pretty much automatically remove the tags? I never do this method because I never burn blank CDs. But I'll put that anyway. Depends what programs you use. If you rip it to a CD and back again in the same music player it'll just recognise what the songs were when the CD was burned.
May 1, 201015 yr Author Welllll, someone else can explain that if people have trouble then. Cuz I have no idea. The second method I posted definitely works because I just did it. ;o And yep Pavel.
May 1, 201015 yr What happened to the original deadline of May 11? I've just ordered a CD with a track I want to use so I won't be able to do it all this weekend. I might need another weekend to finish it.
May 1, 201015 yr Sorry if some songs are low bitrate, better quality is hardly anywhere easily accessable on the net :(
May 2, 201015 yr got my track order done, so will probaly make a cover later and then untag and upload soon.
May 2, 201015 yr Sent mine last night. Not sure how happy I am with it though so don't be surprised if I send a second version before the deadline. :D
May 2, 201015 yr Ok, so do we have to remove ALL the info, such as artists and song titles etc? Yes, that's right. If you're able to do that anyways. There are various ways of doing this as MedicatedSoap has already posted.
May 2, 201015 yr Author Thus far I have CDs from - Medicatedsoap (hey) - Dandy - Shakilover - Thisispop Keep 'em coming y'all. :D And if you do decide to change yours, you can send a second version.
May 2, 201015 yr just had a look through itunes and got 30 songs that i now need to cut down so i'll be done soon and i've only just noticed after seeing your name written down in your post that you're called medicated soap not medicated soup which is what i've been calling you in my head ever since i first saw it! :P
