WENNKylie Minogue has revealed that she has been forced to change the way she sings her early hit 'Better The Devil You Know'.

Minogue admitted that she now sings the track, which reached number two on the UK singles chart in 1990, in a lower key for performances as the original is too high for her voice.

In an interview with Elle, she said: "Better the Devil You Know' was a turning point and an exciting time for me. I was 21, I'd just started dating [Australian singer-songwriter] Michael Hutchence and a different world had opened up.

"That song is ludicrously high, so when I perform it on tour, we take it down a bit. Some of those songs sound simple, but when you tackle them live, they're not easy."

Minogue's new single 'All The Lovers' makes its radio premiere on May 14.

Voices change as people age, so not really surprising. You can tell it with Madonna too.

mariah carey is another example of how the voice changes with age, she definitly cant hit the high notes she was once able to do.

Thats very true and she never seems to sing live anymore either, mariah's voice has definitly deterotated in the last few years no more than whitney houston. Celine Dion on the other hand has managed to hold her voice unlike many of the diva;s she would be categorised with.
Mariah carey can't hit any note these days.

Can't hit any note?

I'm sorry, but that's utterly ridiculous! I'm no Mariah fan, but you can't deny that she has an amazing voice. Something which Kylie will never have in my opinion.

Yes, she may have good material (although I don't agree with this either particularly), but suggesting Mariah can't hit 'any notes' in Kylie's forum is perhaps one of the most hypocritical things I've seen posted in this forum! Kylie's voice is simply average and there's no point suggesting otherwise.

I absolutely HATE Mariah with an almighty passion so I won't leap to her defence. She did used to be able to sing really well but is now terrible (last X-Factor performance anyone?)

Kylie I know is far from the world's best 'vocalist', but she's more than capable.

kylie is indeed very capable, she isnt the best singer in the world but she is very under rated as a live singer at the same time.

Yes i can deny that she has an amazing voice, in mu opinion whenever she open her mouth, she sounds like

a cat in pain. Kylie, in my opinon does have an amzing voice, she can hit some good high notes when singing live. You are

entitled to your opinion but don't have a go at me for having my own opinion too.

i dont think too many people here on buzzjack can, i used to like mariah years ago back in the day when she done great ballads but i havnt enjoyed any of the music she has done for the last 10-12 years.
I'm not saying I like her music (I hate every song of hers I've heard, bar the brilliant 'Obsessed') but I don't deny that she's got a brilliant voice...and I don't really unedrstand how anyone can.

I think she used to... these days it's ropey at best, she'll be on par with how Whitney is now before long.

I agree she used to have a great voice but her voice has deteriorated dramatically for some reason in recent years, and yes i agree she will be like whitney before long.

I would have expected kylies voice to have changed more after her cancer battle, i remember reading an article soon after kylie had been given the all clear and they asked had her voice changed and she said it hadnt been affected as much as they thought it would have been. I didnt notice a huge change in kylie;s live vocal from the showgirl tour to the showgirl homecoming tour.

Shirley Bassey IS 72 and is still an amazing performer...

and same goes for Tina Turner and Aretha Franklin who are both above 70...

which means that age doesn't affect the voice really.

I think Kylie's got a lot better over the years, if you watch live performances from her first few tours and then performances from her most recent she's definitely a lot stronger vocally. It's different but in a good way.

I agree she has definitly got stronger on each tour, i have found that since the live in sydney tour and i have bought all the dvd's and her voice is better each time and she is more and more confident with each tour.
  • 5 years later...

I think kylie focuses primarily on singing and has ongoing training, therefore she can hit notes

but the actual sound of her voice really isn't nice at all. Sounds like a helium balloon, particularly if you listen to her wiggles feature without background sounds to drown her out. I'm sure they would have treated her vocal anyway but really bad

Dannii has a fuller voice

Someone like JLO has a whiney voice also though not that bad however, shes a jack of all trades and doesn't just rely on singing.
