As far as I can see, Alexandra and JLS are both appealing to different audiences. Both have been successful and will continue to be. Either would have been worthy winners of X Factor 2008 in my opinion, it's a shame that both of them and Diana couldn't have all won but that's the nature of a competition - the winner represents the most popular person at a specific point in time in a public vote - not necessarily representative of how their entire careers will pan out in the future. At least they've all managed #1 singles and albums outside of the competition.

 

Alex and JLS are all good friends and I'm sure would hardly encourage this playing them off against one another when they appeal to different music buyers. JLS have become a phenomenon but Alex's success shouldn't be underplayed. They've both done incredibly well and not just because of X Factor - look at Leon Jackson, if people don't want to continue buying the music of these artists they won't.

It's a bit weird looking at the chart progression of X Factor '08's top 4:

 

Alexandra Burke: 2 #1s (one a million seller), a #8, a #16 and a #98 (album track) + #1 album

JLS: 2 #1s and a #6 + #1 album (million seller)

Eoghan Quigg: a #96 + #14 album

Diana Vickers: a #1 + #1 album

 

B.o.B should be in the top 10 very soon, and he should promptly shoot up to #1 given the low sales at the moment afterwards.

a great post people forget jls is a boy band alex is solo singer jls will have individual fans as well for example i know someone who likes just aston but not the rest where as alex is one person
