Here is where you can have a moan about the state of the singles chart.

My interest in the chart is waning a bit and has been for a long time firstly all the urban infiltrating the chart and secondly the constant waffle on Radio 1 every Sunday from one particular DJ which we all know, its about time we had someone who actually knows what they are talking about, instead of all the inane banter and competitions (farm boy  ). I wish Radio 1 have more sense to ditch the DJ, someone like Greg James can do it much better, or its about time to give the chart to a different radio station altogether. How can you run an hour chart show without missing a lot of new entries, when they are more interested in the big weekend at Bangnor, even the event was screend on BBC3.

Rant over :D

I'm at the point where I actually want any non-urban entry to go top 10, even if it's really awful. :puke2: The UK shouldn't transform itself into America so quickly!

Only time I really remember the charts being this urban-infiltrated was in 2003-2004 (worst musical years EVER. :puke2: )

I like urban music and it has been one of my big gripes that Black British acts have not until recently had the same oppurtunities or backing. The only complaint I have is the almost total lack of quality it seems that once mainstream success hits they just abandon any creativity and sell out.Dizzee is just a big joke now, Roll Deep are no better than an urban pop band and even Aggro who prior to Candy which is really nothing special had some good songs.I think Tinchy and Chipmunk(Superstar is his best song) are still borderline good.

R1 are never going to change it is pale, male and stale middle aged men providing music for other pale, male and stale middle aged men all desperately trying to be hip.

I cant believe they havent sacked Reggie yet! the man is brain-dead and ridiculous, the whole show is terrible- too much chat that just has nothing to do with the chart and him trying to be funny and an obvious biased music taste, not enough of the chart played and just general idiocy

the fact that they just broadcasted an hour of the chart which was a very significant chart shows how little they care- they were more concerned about their stupid big weekend, when they have easily done it before

Im more concerned about how its presented than the current music- although there is FAR too much urban in the charts

*sigh*

What I wonder is if BuzzJack would get tired in the same way if all urban died and suddenly everything in the top 10 was pop. Like, a pop invasion on the same scale as the urban invasion, set to last forever. Would there ever be this much uproar?

My point being BJ as a whole seems to hate urban genres too much.

Anyway, the chart show desperately needs improvement, and Reggie needs to be sacked now.

I loved the charts in 2006 - when I started gaining an interest in them. 'Maneater', 'Unfaithful', 'Crazy', 'Ain't No Other Man', 'SexyBack', 'Deja Vu', 'I'm Not Shy' :kink:, 'Lipstick', 'Sleepwalking', 'RockSteady', 'A Moment Like This' :kink:, 'U + Ur Hand', 'Voodoo Child' :kink: and many many more were great!

2007 was probably at an even higher standard. 'Umbrella', 'Shut Up and Drive', 'Bleeding Love' etc.

2008 was probably worse than 2007 but still had 'Run', 'American Boy', 'Black & Gold' moments.

2009 was extraordinary with the likes of 'Poker Face', 'Happy' :kink:, 'Boom Boom Pow', 'Man In The Mirror' :kink: etc.

2010 is $h!t so far. :smoke:

Couldn't have written it better myself. :D

I don't see how anyone can label a whole genre '$h!te'. Ridiculously ignorant.

And I'm not coming across ignorant, just voicing my opinion, I can't even do that now.

I personally like all sorts of music and although it's not a good thing when one genre starts to have such a majority in the charts I don't mind as I know it will change.

And guys if you wanna get rid of Reggie (as much as I love him) stop listening to the chart show. And don't forget it's not just his fault with all the errors he is just the presenter is all the team behind him would decide what happens and what is said in the show, give him facts etc.

I agree fully. I mean, sure, we all like certain genres more than other, fair enough. That's just natural. But to see that a song is, say, reggae and electropop, and then to decide you're going to hate the song, just because you don't like reggae, is silly.

I like europop songs, but I don't presume I'm automatically going to like every single europop song I see. There's some that I don't like.

And I'm not coming across ignorant, just voicing my opinion, I can't even do that now.

You can voice your opinion, I'm just opposed to the term 'urban $h!te'. No matter how much you can hate most urban songs, there has to be at least *one* song from an urban genre that you like, therefore it's wrong to label the entire genre as $h!te...

If you just simply say 'urban' instead of 'urban $h!te' that'd be okay :P

Tbh with Reggie, as useless as the poor bloke is, I doubt any DJ would really ever satisfy the chart 'geeks'. There would always be something to moan about tbh. I understand the blabbing on and the text reading can be tedious for I dont think Reggie should be given the full blame. I do think it's time he was moved to another slot though, someone could do it better and he really doesnt seem all that interested anymore.

I mean geeks in a good way honest :P Like the cute ones you see in museum. Like Artie from Glee. The disabled one. And we all inspire to be the disabled one on Glee right? YES? GOOD.

It's a bit weird how everyone says there's no pop songs in the top 10, when Ridin' Solo, Candy, Eenie Meenie and Good Times are clearly pop songs to me.

Most of the songs in the charts are in multiple genres (because they appeal to a wider audience that way). In terms of the songs most faithful to one genre at the moment, I'd say they are Stereo Love, and Not Afraid, which are almost purely Electronic and Hip Hop respectively.

Yes I know this, and my rant is also aimed at them for running the show like this- in fact, its them who should be sacked and replaced!

but Reggie could be more impartial and LESS annoying, Im sick of him hating on Glee EVERY week!

I wouldn't call them clearly pop music, so I don't think it's weird tbh.

I have no problems with urban songs, but I have to say it's really boring to see almost the full top 10 from a similar genre. I like diversity (with a couple of real pop music and indie - although I'm not really keen on that genre), but hey I think it is just because it's a bit dead with the new releases, it will be different again in a couple of weeks and more faster from the autumn.

It's always the same, when summer comes the charts are always more boring :D

TBH it is also Reggie's fault too imo! If he would be more interested in the chart music and more involved by a little bit of searching, he shouldn't need a great help by the team and he could immediately see the errors in the sheets facts etc.

It looks like he doesn't even do any searching just relying what the "sheets" say and that's it and that's why he's a bad chart presenter.

Couldn't have written it better myself. :D

The whole genre isn't $h!te, just pretty much everything that's currently released from it. The current top 10 is full of generic tripe. B.O.B. is ok, as is Roll Deep. The rest is embarassing. I'd hope in five years time Dizzee will listen to 'Dirtee Disco' and wonder what on earth he was thinking.

Just like in 2006/7 when tonnes of landfill indie types could make the top 20 no matter how dull or generic it was, we've now reached the same stage with urban music. No one will remember any of this rubbish in a few years, wheras if you look at the top 3 from a year ago, 'Bonkers', 'Boom Boom Pow' and 'Number One'. What a difference a year makes, all three were so many leagues above the current top 3 it's stupid.

True, He should've known Jason Derulos 'Whatcha Say' wasnt a number 1, yet he said it on weeks on end- since he knew where it charted in the week, this is pathetic :(

Well you can just label it as '$h!te' (if that's your opinion) without having to drag in the genre to make it look like you're saying that genre as a whole is $h!te surely?
