'Urban music genres' means 'music genres popular in urban areas'. Hip hop and rap / R&B first got popular in big cities.

Which is partly why it is so dominant in the US - their singles chart incudes radio play, and the lions share of the radio audience live in the big cities...

I don't suppose Billboard publish a sales-only chart, so I could see what the effect of eliminating the airplay factor would have?

And "Gettin' Over You" is BARELY Urban... Fergie by her own is a pop singer and LMFAO are poppy-urban rap. Besides the original "Gettin' Over" is a dance song.
There are a few on DS who are just plain ignorant and insensitive. The majority are quite intelligent though. :P

Yeah i'm aware MJ is classed as Pop and, generally speaking, his music is pop but it's such a ridiculous genre. Can anyone actually identify what 'pop' is in musical terms?

How about : Atomic Kitten ; Girls Aloud; Spice Girls, Kylie (in her SAW days).

What are you talking about? He's had Jay-Z on TWICE! And Dizzee Rascal was just on a couple of weeks BEFORE!

Not to mention Eminem already performed there the year before.

Ah, but just because he put them on the show, doesn't mean his audience (studio or viewing) would go for them - after all, they're pretty much stuck with his choice... :P

Vidcapper, I'd be interested to know how you consider Miley Cyrus 'urban'. ;o

Hardly - I'd describe her music as pop/dance.

I don't know what MOR/AOR means.

MOR = Middle Of The Road (what I would call 'easy-listening' - Buble etc)

AOR : Adult-Oriented Rock (Coldplay, Dire Straits, etc) rather than the more indie stuff.

Tinie can pretty much say goodbye to a second #1 now, as Dizzee & James C have been brought forward a week. Shame, I really wanted Frisky to be a #1 - hopefully it can at least turn out to be a sizeable #2 hit.

Kylie might be able to get to #1 now.

Like she needs any such help...

BTW, she looks amazing in her new video - much better than most girls half her age!

Regardless of classic status Kylie would have her work cut out to beat out a new Simon Cowell linked World Cup related charity single performed by Dizzee Rascal and James Corden (the former, I remind you, last had a #1 just last week) which is still fairly fresh in the minds of everyone who watched the Britain's Got Talent final.

I wish I could be that confident about Kylie getting #1, I have that horrible feeling she won't get it. :(

Of course I will be over the moon if she does.

Against a charity single, a #2 would count as a moral victory for Kylie...

I see where you are coming from but still nobody has defined 'pop' in musical terms?

If pop does indeed mean synth-driven music, then yes Girls Aloud, Spice Girls and Kylie are pop. Atomic Kitten? I really can't remember any of their material musically.

NOOOOOO....Cowell can just p*ss off!

I really wanted Frisky to get to number 1 it's soo much better than Pass Out and it doesn't seem fair that a track far more superior will probably miss the top spot.

FRISKY FOR NUMBER 1

Party In The USA is kinda RnBish, but I agree with Pop/dance
