July 14, 200916 yr I actually really like the album. (Bar 'Was I The Only One', 'Faith' & 'Postcard' :puke:) But i've only had one listen so far LOL. Really like 'The Cure' though  The Piano-y parts remind me of another song (Recent-ish) but I can't think for the life of me what song exactly :( (Any help? ha!) But yeah... it's much better than the clips suggested. EDIT: 'the Cure' reminds me of usher's 'Will Work For Love'
July 14, 200916 yr I wasn't bowled over by her debut exactly, I bought it and I'd say it was about half good (or maybe just over half), I'm not overly excited for this but I'll try and give it a fair listen when I can.
July 14, 200916 yr 1. Walking On Snow - 10/10 2. Battlefield - 9/10 3. Don't Let It Go To Your Head - 8/10 4. SOS (Let The Music Play) - 10/10 5. It Takes More - 5/10 6. Watch You Go - 6/10 (gets better in the second half, otherwise would have been 5.) 7. No Parade - 8/10 8. Let It Rain - 10/10 9. Emergency (911) - 11/10 (gave it 11 as it's the best on the album, could have an amazing video) 10. Was I The Only One - 7/10 (a nice pleasant song) 11. Faith - 7/10 (I recognise the piano at the start but I can't remember which song) 12. The Cure - 6/10 (same as above) 13. Papercut - 5/10 14. Postcard - 4/10 Average - 7.5/10 (so not a bad album but it has it's up and downs) Bold is what i would like the other singles to be.
July 14, 200916 yr 4/10 That number matches how many songs on the album I can actually listen to. Nothing is wonderful imo. And only 3 fast-ish songs. Great variety Ms. Sparks.
July 14, 200916 yr the whole thing is too damn ballad heavy. it would have needed that 'vertigo' track and another couple up-tempos. They could have replaced some of those damn ballads..
July 14, 200916 yr So potential in the charts anyone? yea sure there are some hits on there but just too many low-tempo tunes
July 14, 200916 yr Walking on Snow - 6/10 Very mediocre, a little catchy but I cant see it being a mainstream hit. Battlefield - 9/10 Great song, can see why its the first single, should have been a hit by now Dont Let it go to your head - 8/10 - Stand out ballad on the album, single material. SOS - 8/10 - Livens the album up a bit, good 2nd single choice, will show album/artist versatility. It takes more - 7/10 - A grower, chrous dosent climax as would be expected but not a bad listen Watch U GO - 6/10 - Might need more time to grow, sounds good from the start but it goes nowhere. Let down by DR Luke, most of his stuff is single material. No Parade - 7/10 - Decent ballad, nice chours but again a lack of a climax. Let it rain - 7/10 - sounds like one of those 'instantly cathcy' songs but its a song trying to be big and have a climax but it has no 'big' moment. Emergency 911 - 9/10 - Good song, a grower and single material. Again shows versatility and is a lil more edgy. Would be another good second single. Was I the Only one - 7/10 - Slow and soft right throughout, not a bad lil tune, a little soppy - good for the women... Faith - 7/10 - Well written but predictable and typical. A good song if it means something to someone. The Cure - 8/10 - Another stand out ballad. Good goin. Overall - 8/10 - Not a bad attempt, just needs to be a bit more upbeat to make it more mainstream. That 'Vertigo' song would have suited and at least one more upbeat song to replace a couple of the ballads. The album is way to ballad heavy - she is a upbeat kinda person so she should have the album reflect that. Jive havent thought much about that and while they wanted the album to sound similar to the lead single, they should realise that people will want the album to be more versatile like the artist.
July 14, 200916 yr Unfortunately its sounds very low budget. Wouldnt call it low budget, just rushed. They thought coz they had 'Battlefield' as the lead that it would sell no matter what.
July 15, 200916 yr After all the hype it appears it's not that great after all... on Monday will tell for me!
July 15, 200916 yr I don't even think there is much hype surrounding this release now. I feared I would find it dull, and unfortunately I was right. "Battlefield" is really the only stand-out single and I've even tired of that. I really like her voice, attitude and appeal but feel this is lame material. All of the tracks are pretty much OK, and I think this will show in the number she sells. I always felt her debut was OK, but after hearing this record, I realise there were many more memorable tracks.
July 16, 200916 yr I might buy it, I'll give some of the tracks a listen. SOS is a poor second single though!
July 16, 200916 yr even with what people are sayin on here, its gettin very good reviews from the media...(the album)
July 16, 200916 yr even with what people are sayin on here, its gettin very good reviews from the media...(the album) I second that: Entertainment Weekly That the opening guitar line of ''Walking on Snow'' — the first track on Jordin Sparks' sophomore set — sounds like a close cousin of the riff that kicks off Kelly Clarkson's ''Since U Been Gone'' should come as no surprise. One couldn't blame Sparks, American Idol's sixth-season champ, for attempting to mirror the career trajectory of the original-flavor Idol: a decently received debut followed up by a pop masterpiece with multiplatinum sales. Battlefield certainly delivers on the artistic end: It's packed with more hooks than a fisherman's tackle box, none better than on the gorgeous title track, which sports a soaring chorus. When Sparks hits that ''Better go and get your armor'' bridge, you can practically feel the wind whipping through your hair. Second single ''S.O.S. (Let the Music Play),'' with its refrain copped from Shannon's 1983 dance classic, may not be thrillingly original, but resistance is futile when Sparks, showing heretofore unseen vocal dexterity, takes to the dance floor to ward off a vixen who's barking up the wrong boyfriend. Battlefield actually contains enough potential hits to keep the singer in heavy rotation until well into Idol's 10th season: The music-box piano on ''No Parade'' breaks your heart even before she gets to the bruising chorus, while ''Watch You Go'' recasts her as a fickle R&B temptress. Sparks even co-penned four tracks, including ''Faith,'' the best AI anthem the show has never had. Kara DioGuardi, you've been warned. A–
July 16, 200916 yr I'm actually ADDICTED to 'The Cure' at the moment  I LOVE it. The album is actually a grower and gets better after each listen.
July 16, 200916 yr I can't believe how many positive reviews I've come across. It's baffling that it's being praised so much, when I find it so incredibly dull. Ah, critics do get it wrong sometimes, don't they? ;)
