June 22, 201015 yr Neither Jai Ho or Love Story WON their contests though, so the point to bring them up is a bit irrelevant in this arguement? Again, I wouldn't particularly call Kelis (generally not liked) a semi-cheap entry, but meh, I don't want to get into a debate about that too. With the exception of 'Robots In Love' and 'Not A Love Song' I would say most winners have been semi-cheap since 'Will You Remember Me Tomorrow', from your view point. With the examples you've used, such as 'Love Story' and 'Jai Ho' - surely Eminem/Rihanna is likely to go the same way (if not worse), consdering the genre of song and the involvement of rap compared to VERY-BJSC friendly genre that 'Love Story' and 'Jai Ho' fall under. I was referring to that level of cheapness rather than its effect on the contest when I mentioned those two :P I'd dispute Kelis being 'generally not liked' - it only really seems to be two or three people who dislike her, and that's just because of the PETA stance. I would hardly call a top five single on the Multichart (#1 if you go back to Lil Star) and a #6 album in the album chart 'generally not liked' Well, we all said that about Good Times and Airplanes, but they both still went on to be winners/top five successes... I'd say the line for semi-cheapness really has to be Robots In Love. I don't think most people would've heard Right Here (Departed), The Show (at the time), Quicksand (at the time), Release Me (at the time), Not A Love Song, or The Girl and the Robot without the contest. Shark In The Water was semi-cheap, I don't think anyone would've heard Robots In Love without the contest, TiK ToK wasn't cheap, Silly Boy undoubtedly was, The Spell undoubtedly was, Boys Will Be Boys seemed to be at the time but wasn't really in retrospect, and Under The Sheets and Hollywood were semi-cheap/cheap. Halcyon wasn't, Good Times was but that one was fairly hard to object to at the time, and Sheelah wasn't...

[offtopic] BUT your use of :P is so horrible :( Surely, this is what we're talking about, the effect of them? I personally don't think Eminem/Rihanna will win, and I Blame Coco are much more likely too. Okay, well perhaps I should rephrase that as 'generally not well loved'. I think there are few people on here who would be classed as a 'fan'. I also wouldn't class a leaked album track a particularly cheap.! Also, your use of the multichart as a gauge is a bit off, seeing as probably half the people who enter this don't even post a chart. 'Release Me' and 'Girl And The Robot' has SO much internet buzz around them, pretty muche everyone on this forum would have found the songs without this contest. I also don't think 'Silly Boy' received THIS much negativity as what Aaron has received with Eminem/Rihanna, when 'Silly Boy' was quite obviously going to win. Whereas Eminem is more likely to be a song that finishes around Top 5 or so, imo. Again, with 'The Spell' that was awfully cheap too.
June 23, 201015 yr The Girl and the Robot had a lot of internet buzz, but it was mainly indie blogs that were losing their $h!t over them - I don't think the craze would've really found its way over here without the BJSC. Release Me had a lot of pop blog attention, but wasn't making massive waves over here either... Silly Boy had f***loads of negativity around it! Pretty much everyone who aired their views on it resented it? I agree that the Multichart isn't a perfect gauge, but it's still undoubtedly a corollary of popularity here...and also, hence why I said SEMI-cheap :funky: Eminem and Rihanna has basically everything that Airplanes had going for it but with the added bonus of Rihanna being on it - let's face it, she hardly lacks stans who take part in the BJSC  - it is undoubtedly a strong contender for victory...
June 23, 201015 yr That's what I was wondering! If it's anything I've said Addy, I'm sorry. No worries though...this'll be the last contest I participate in, as I'll be away for the next one and can't reeealy be bothered to join again afterwards. :magic: WTF? I understand you may be missing the next contest not 'bothering to join again'? Who will be giving me/receiving 18's? Oh can people just give it a rest with the whole cheap/non cheap thing. It's supposed to be a bit of fun, but people on here take it soooo f***ing seriously and suck all the fun out of it. We're voting on the quality of songs, yeah it's good if they're a discovery, but that's just a bonus. I'd not agree with this. Discoveries is not a bonus in any way, it's the essential thing that the contest is based on. The contest filled with current 'quality' hits with 5 discoveries is not fun for me tbh. But i'm not trying to get into that arguement because I will always put 'cheapies' under discoveries (but in like 85% of all cases i don't like 'cheapies' anyway so it's relatively easy for me  )
June 23, 201015 yr Author 3 days left to vote people, 36 votes outstanding - the deadline's come round really quickly actually - not one person has taken part in the Predicta yet though :( And barely any odds - I can't do them so other people need to! And if you don't, don't complain that there was nothing to discuss/no activity in here :P Odds/Predictas encourage discussion!
June 23, 201015 yr I did not want to odds or predictions just to see how many people who 'dislike' or finds boring the new format will get involved.
June 23, 201015 yr Author I did not want to odds or predictions just to see how many people who 'dislike' or finds boring the new format will get involved. The two main complaints about the format were; - Lack of activity - Too long for voting/boring So the voting window was reduced by 3 days, and to me doesn't seem like it's been that long (although more than long enough to listen to all of the songs properly), and there has been more activity, but increased numbers of arguments weren't really the idea :kink: moreso more people taking part in odds and predictas, and there've been less people doing them than last time :drama:
June 23, 201015 yr I think it's natural to say that having semi finals gives us more to talk about, then what a big final has to offer contest wise. With the semis there are discussion around who will make it/not make it - and therefore threads with odds and predictas before the final in the semis and in the final after the semis. Moreso there is great luxury in making it to the final and perhaps that's what makes people more involved? I'm not saying that there shouldn't or couldn't be a lot more discussion this time around, because we could and there should be - but having semis might naturally add some more activity and involvement?
June 23, 201015 yr Personally I would definitely have made some predictas myself, but in a big final like this I find it even more difficult to execute both odds and predictas. I noticed more people getting involved in the predictas when there were semis around. Even I participated in that; it was much easier to get committed to it with fewer countries and songs to compare.

I've had a first listen to all the tracks and have awarded them pointage out of 10. I will give them another listen through, and probably vote by the end of Friday.
June 23, 201015 yr If people want more discussion, then they have to make the effort. People who don't make the effort of discussing can't complain about it being boring. :heehee:
June 23, 201015 yr Oh come on y'all, this is quite confusing. First y'all want it all to be active and stuff but without taking part in predictas and odds at the same time. I honestly forgot about predicta thread because i'm sick atm out of all things but i am now planning on doing it tomorrow, as well as a revised set of odds. How exactly this was gonna work Addy? You posting odds would change anything? I completely don't follow this logic.
June 23, 201015 yr In contrast to a lot of people, I've found this contest ridiculously strong! :o Definitely the strongest out of the ones I've participated in (6 or 7 I guess?) I've made quite a few excellent discoveries and it really has been impossible to order...will send my votes soon though.
June 23, 201015 yr How exactly this was gonna work Addy? You posting odds would change anything? I completely don't follow this logic. http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee2/kejaneway/nvtt21.gif lol I just felt not to get involved in odds/predicta this time...and tbh I expected a lot of people will especially the ones who think its boring lately, but I guess everyone just wants to sit their ass on chair and stare/read at this forum while the others (couple of people) posts.
June 24, 201015 yr I think people get a bit worked up over this cheap/non-cheap thing...I think having a couple of well known songs in the contest is fine myself. Obviously if the whole top 20 were floating around then it'd be a bit much but that's what the banlist is for I guess. In fact, aren't there multiple rules barring current material from artist forums on the site too? I think all these rules have gone too far already myself. Does this mean that someone couldn't say, enter a leaked album track from SEB's next album? Seems a bit much if you ask me.
June 24, 201015 yr LOL not participating in odds/discussion because you're not happy with the one big final thing is so silly and childish. I don't discuss things either way so whatevs. Honestly, discussion in BJSC has been waning since we hit the 20s, I don't think it's the fault of the one big final.
June 24, 201015 yr but I guess everyone just wants to sit their ass on chair and stare/read at this forum while the others (couple of people) posts. Hmmm, you are part of this 'everyone' btw.
June 24, 201015 yr Author 2 songs still on 'nul points' after 18 votes :o Universally unpopular it would seem, and neither are songs I would have expected to get no points either...
June 24, 201015 yr Hmmm, you are part of this 'everyone' btw. Pavel you know that I always used to post odds...and even if I post them now yet it will be as usual...no one else posted except tyron, you me or better say people who cares about bringing activity in here...and my point is that people who thinks lately is boring here needs to post more often instead of just put the contest with boring tag. like Ben said...it's very childish for not trying to get involved just because they don't like the changes within contest that has been made.
