Posted June 23, 201015 yr Is there a List of the 'Fastest Selling' UK Singles? The ones that sold the most copies in a Week? BAND AID For example, some Sites & Books, say that the original 'Do They Know It's Christmas' (1984), sold 'A UK Million' in its 1st Week. Other sources say it sold 750,000 in the UK, in its 1st Week. Which is correct? I think it was 750,000 - from memory. GALLUP - But - This Press Clipping from 1984, has Gallup, (who Compiled the Charts then), saying it sold 600,000 in its 1st Week:, http://www.80sactual.com/2009/04/1984-band...y-know-its.html It seems rather low to me, when 750,000 or 1 Million are now given as its 1st Week Sales. Where does that place it in the UK's Fastest Sellers? Then there is the Elton John No.1, from 1997. Edited June 23, 201015 yr by zeus555

It also sold over 1,000,000 on its second full week of sales and I think around 500,000 on its third IIRC. EDIT: Yup, 1067k on week 3, 572k on week 4 and 274k on week 5 (4th full week). It did well. June 23, 201015 yr I was only 9 at the time so it's staggering people cared so much about Diana. The song was horrendous. :o
June 23, 201015 yr I was only 9 at the time so it's staggering people cared so much about Diana. The song was horrendous. :o Without wanting to cause offence etc. I've alwayd wondered what Diana did that made her death so significant - was she not just nother member of the Royal family? If anyone could answer that that'd be nice. :P

June 23, 201015 yr Im pretty sure it was Candle in The Wind as stated above shame as the song was quite bad and without meaning to cause offence, only sold so well because of Diana's death Bohemian Rhapsody was a song that deserved its high sales- not sure how fast that sold in its first week  although it has had two separate releases that both went there

June 23, 201015 yr of course it sold so well because of diana, that's why it was re-released  it's one of the few elton songs i can stomach. tbh though bit insulting to re-release a song about marilyn monroe and suddenly make it about diana :s
June 24, 201015 yr Kylie's cant get you out of my head sold over 300,000 in its first week of release, i think she is one of the very few to have sold that much in recent years outside of reality tv stars winning singles and charity singles.
June 24, 201015 yr Did you just compare Diana to Cheryl?! hahaa it kinda seemed that way!! diana was hugely famous, a wonderful woman and charity worker and the TRUE meaning of the nation's sweetheart, not like cheryl tweedy. she was a celebrity of a different rank!! she was loved worldwide as well as in the UK and worked extremely hard. an amazing lady to be perfectly honest
June 24, 201015 yr What about Alexandra Burke's Hallelujah? Didn't it broke some kind of record? Yeah It sold 576,000 copies in its first week, becoming the fastest selling single released by a woman in the UK, and she is the first uk solo Female artist to sell over a million copies of a single in the uk. :D Edited June 24, 201015 yr by X gunners X

June 25, 201015 yr It annoys me that people think that records are different to men and women. Like fastest selling single by female makes a single special even though it sold 1/2 of what the fastest selling single did.
