Listening to 50 songs once = listening to one semi + all the final songs once. Does that mean you used to listen to the songs once when we had semis? GOTCHA'ALL.

No Pavel, because you get a weeks break between listening to 25 songs at once. If you're like me and Theo and find it easier to listen to them all at once then it is different.

if we decide to bring back the semis, I hope they comeback with the old results...because between 1 pointer and 18 pointer is just a HUGE gap...and it makes 1 pointer look like you don't love it at all when in fact you love it as much as 5 pointer for example.

Semis last 6/7 days, final lasts 6/7 days. The big final lasts 11 days. And we don't get any breaks (AFAIK)

Do you not make some form of notes or marks?

I listened to the first 16 songs four days before the last 16. I knew not to listen to Jamora's entry again as I noted that I thought it was rubbish. I knew to listen to Skall's again as I noted that I enjoyed it...

Yeah, I do make notes - so I'd know which songs I need not listen to, but for example, I used the 'traffic light' system - with so many green lights, it makes it hard to remember what you like when. I'm not just going to vote on what I probably did like, I like to vote straight after I've listened to the songs so that I can guarantee I've made the right choice. This probably made no sense, but it did in my head,

Yeah, but they're being listened to at seperate times (for a reason), not all at once.

Do you forget California Gurls one hour after you listen to it?

No, because I've heard it so many times before (and if you're replying to the first time we heard it, for me, I played it 14 times in a row, so no!)

I strongly agree on this point. To have the new points system in place for a Final of up to 30 songs (because the Semi's have eliminated 10/20 songs) will result in too much extrapolation of the scores for those that reach the Final which will deter experimentation which the last two contests have benefited from IMHO.

But we don't have to listen to 50 songs ALL AT ONCE over those days.

I too listen to them at separate times, in one big final format. Who stops you from doing that I really wonder and this is probably the 'spine' of the whole arguement!

I was only saying that you wouldn't forget a song if you played it enough amount of times. nobody forces you to listen to the songs once and then f***ing rush to vote.

It's how you THINK. Surely if you think harder you used to HAVE to listen to all of the semi+final songs in two weeks period of time anyway otherwise you'd have faced the deduction. It just was comfortably diguised.

@listening to 'California Gurls'

I've heard it 50+ times now, so yes, I do remember it after an hour.

@listening to the same amount of songs

You don't, you listening to about 10-17 less songs overrall, SEPERATELY, with semis.

You don't HAVE TO listen to all of the songs in one sitting! My method works perfectly for me and I remember the songs without any problems whatsoever. You know why? BECAUSE I DON'T LISTEN TO THEM ALL AT ONCE.

xxzxcuzx me? Semi = 25 songs + 15 qualified sopngs + 1/2 AQ's. Nah bitch. 40 AT LEAST.

Plus y'all seem to be forgetting that you every contest surely must have at least 5 songs that you already knew before the contest/heard in someone else's thread?

Well i do listen to all of them at once but i do it just having my songbird playing on the background the first time. If something stands out/makes me puke then i remember i have a good feeling about it/wipe every last thing reminding me of this song.

I don't know how people remember the UK chart songs because there're like 75 OF THEM!!!1

But that's your way of doing it and you choose to do it. I'm just saying that you don't have to listen to them at once. :D

I voted for the big final and (if we got back to semis) the old voting system. I agree that 18-1 with only 10 songs to vote for is too much. I hope we don't have to return to semis though. This way just makes so much more sense.

I do listen to them all in one sitting, but for those saying splitting it up leads to forgetting tracks. That's why we made sure there was a recap last month? I could quite easily break it into 4 groups of 16, use the star rankings on iTunes to make note of the tracks I did/didn't like and either re-listen to the higher ranked songs/go through to recap to help rank them to sort out my votes.

I just don't think it's worth going back to the more restrictive format because it's slightly more effort. (which is arguably why activity has slipped here, not because one big final means there's nothing to discuss)

Maybe I'm being stupid, perhaps it's already been explained, but why does the one big final need at least 55% to go ahead? As long as it gets more votes than the semi's, surely that means more people would prefer one big final regardless of the percentage

lol at all this technique stuff, semi finals or not i still only listen to all the songs once unless i really like them lawlz, I GUESS I HAVE GOOD MEMORY

(sometimes i don't even get through more than a minute of a song if i can tell it sucks)

I do try and listen to the whole of the song even if it pains me. I was actually quite impressed with myself, forcing myself to listen to the whole of Variation Of Birds.

Surely you don't listen to songs you don't like more than once?

I noted in Excel which ones I didn't like and then didn't listen to them again. Why would I want to?

I've had experience with - actually - quite a lot of songs that I've disliked a bit or disliked strongly on the first listen that I, for one reason or another, has grown to like. I also use the 'traffic light system' (with four colors), but in combination with a top 10 rating - and I've found out that there are a couple of songs in a red color that I've grown to like in different ways even though I've seemed to dislike them on first listen.

Other songs starts in a green color, but ends up in a red one! :(
