From memory, I vaguely recall Lady Gaga taking the record from Oasis last year...was just wondering if anyone knew how many weeks the record is? And is there a Top 10 of this anywhere? Or does anybody have any more information on acts who have done well?

I reckon Glee Cast must be around 110 weeks for the year which is amazing, given only half the year has gone by! I doubt they will add much to this though, with the series finished.

Glee are on 116 weeks in the top 75 this year, plus another 50 between 76 and 100 to make 166 weeks top 100.

For comparison, last year GaGa got 182 weeks in the top 100, and 155 top 75.

However, it needs to be taken into account GaGa only had 14 top 100 hits last year, while Glee have 67.

Sex On Fire & Use Somebody surely must've been a big number of weeks in the top 75 in a year too. They hung around for years.

Glee are a bit of a chart whore tbh :o

The second season starts in September too though I have no idea when it will air in the UK. I'm assuming before the end of the year, rather than leave such a long gap now it's so popular. The BBC did a similar thing with Heroes I believe.

Oasis managed 134 one year and 129 an adjacent year in the 90s thanks to a series of rereleases during morning glory madness. Rihanna managed 129 in 2008 and was probably top woman until gaga managed 156 (inc featuring credits) last year. She's also on 83 so far this year so could potentially equal or better this if she launches a new single and album before the end of year. Glee quite possibly will beat this though it so seems like cheating. I'm sure 80s madge must have done a fair whack too, though it was much harder when your physical could be deleted in favour of a new song- 3+ months was a huge run back then

I made a mistake earlier when I said GaGa had 155 weeks top 75 and 182 top 100 - it's actually 156 (as you mentioned) and 183 respectively.

GaGa's progress this year so far:

Lady GaGa Alejandro 96 54 40 28 19 10 8

Lady GaGa Bad Romance 1 4 7 9 12 16 20 15 20 24 24 21 27 24 25 35 40 32 41 39 47 58 44 47 52 53

116 weeks top 100 (the same Glee have in the top 75), 85 of those in the top 75, and she's only released 2 singles this year.

Sex On Fire:

71 weeks top 75

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

Bray - 'Sex On Fire' has spent 81 Weeks in the Top 75.

Only 2 Singles beat it:,

'My Way' - Frank Sinatra (124 Weeks - 2 of them in 1994)

'Chasing Cars' - Snow Patrol (96 Weeks)

Typo. :P

It's weird to see all Glee songs being labeled as hits. Most of them are not.

Should the word "a hit" be redefined?

'A hit' is subjective.

AFAIC anything that crosees the UK Top 100 is technically a hit.

Elsewhere, someone called Philip, has pointed out that Black Eyed Peas

now have the Single with the most consecutive Top 75 Weeks, for a Group.

It is 'I Gotta Feeling' - No.52 this Week, & on its 52nd Top 75 Week, in a row.

It is beaten only by 'Release Me', by Engelbert Humperdinck, (56 in a row),

& 'Stranger On The Shore', by Mr. Acker Bilk, (55 in a row).

The Black Eyed Peas Single has Charted for 54 Weeks, over all, as it was

at No.70 & No.68 last June, before dropping to No.79, & then re-entering,

at No.39, on W/E 11th July 2009 - and it has been in the Top 75 ever since.

Sex On Fire would have that record bagged if it weren't for a certain death-related event that sent it out of the top 75 for two weeks between two enormous runs inside it.

That reminds me, update to the total top 100 weeks table:

1. Chasing Cars 139

2. My Way 124

=3. Rule The World 93

=3. Sex On Fire 93

5. Poker Face 76

=6. Low 75

=6. Use Somebody 75

'Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) and 'I'm Yours' are both just below the top 7 (72 and 73 respectively).

I don't suppose you have the relevant information to fill the top 10, zeus555?

I prefer the definition that Guiness/Virgin uses - i.e. Top 75, though with the rules now being consistant right down, an argument for a different limit can certainly be made.

At least since the start of the archives on the OCC's website, 'a hit' throughout the ages goes by whatever limit chartstats has IMO. So that's top 50, top 75, top 100, top 75 again then top 100 again (since I think 2007-ish) as the years go on from 1960-2010.

Unless they had any charts in that period with a different limit than 50, 75 or 100 that I'm not aware of.
