It's usually midday on the Friday, although rumour has it that we'll get to see rehearsal clips on Thursdays this year.

Rehearsal clips have just been shown online. An interesting array of songs in this heat;

01. Dilba - Try Again: Electro-pop tune. Potentially a grower, but nothing spectacular on first impressions. 7/10

02. Swingfly - Me And My Drum: Electro mixed with rap. Didn't think too much of this one, it's got a similar structure to Airplanes, but with a male vocalist singing the chorus. 5/10

03. Jenny Silver - Something In Your Eyes: Typically Swedish, and pretty brilliant. It's like CC & Lee's Better Best Forgotten with more bass. The vocals weren't great though. If she can improve vocally, this should make it to second chance. 8.5/10

04. Jonas Matsson - On My Own: Sounded similar to Ola's Overdrive, typical summery acoustic midtempo track. Could translate well on screen. 5/10

05. Le Kid - Oh My God: Sounded like The Revelations meets Alphabeat. Certainly not the best song I've heard from them, quite disappointed :( . 6/10

06. Rasmus Viberg - Social Butterfly: Sounds really promising. Quite similar to Lovestoned's entry last year, but Rasmus has more charm about him. I should think this will go to the final. 8/10

07. Pernilla Andersson - Desperados: Hmm, a very mediocre country-pop/rock number. Rather dull. 4/10

08. Danny Saucedo - In The Club: A big dance-pop number with rap elements. This should easily win the heat, but I have preferred previous material from him. 8/10

My predictions;

Direct til Globen: Danny & Rasmus

Andra Chansen: Jenny & Jonas

I missed them :( When will the clips be up on the website?

Not looking promising for Le Kid based on your opinion Ghosty, although to me The Revelations meets Alphabeat sounds like a very good thing :o

Not sure, maybe they'll put studio versions up tomorrow like they have usually done?

The Le Kid song might be a grower, I think I set my expectations a little too high though hence why I was disappointed. I was expecting something a little more current and more uptempo.

I watched the rehearsal clips with the sound turned off, so as not to spoil it for myself just yet! However from what I hear about Le Kid's song, it's certainly not as instant or catchy as their usual material, and it seems from the staging that they're relying on their "quirkyness" to get them through. I think they could miss out. I'd not be surprised if Jenny made it straight to the final either. The only one I'd count out right now is Swingfly.

I reiterate though, this is purely based on seeing the staging, the artists, and based on what others have said about the songs.

Found the clips;

01. Dilba - Try Again: Definitely think this one has potential! 8/10

02. Swingfly - Me And My Drum: This is definitely my sort of thing, I'm a big fan of the rap verse/pop chorus boom and this song is very contemporary in terms of what's happening today (at least in the UK charts). Looking forward to the whole thing. 8/10

03. Jenny Silver - Something In Your Eyes: - Oh wow :o Is this really the same woman from last year! Excellent Abba-esque schlager, love it! 9/10

04. Jonas Matsson - On My Own: Always thought this had potential since it won the wildcard round and I like it even more now that it's had a makeover. 8.5/10

05. Le Kid - Oh My God: Well I like it, and adore the staging and their image in general. Very much looking forward to hearing this in full. 8/10

06. Rasmus Viberg - Social Butterfly: Sounds pretty good with a memorable chorus and interesting use of instruments. Not overwhelmed so far though... 7/10

07. Pernilla Andersson - Desperados: Something tells me I'll really like this in full, I enjoyed the clip :o 8/10

08. Danny Saucedo - In The Club: Wow, didn't realise he rapped as well  Very much the 'in sound' right now with the Only Girl esque synths, enjoyable. 8/10

I like the presenter of the previews, she seems very charismatic and stylish, or perhaps I just have an affinity to fellow redheads - and with that in mind - go Jenny Silver and Le Kid :P Seriously though, I'm looking forward to all of them, they all show potential to my music tastes - sounds like Jenny Silver might have the best song but will Sweden still vote for big schlager numbers in 2011?

She's you in drag, right? :kink: J/k  She is very likeable but the whole thing somehow looks even cheaper than the webfinal...

01. Dilba - Try Again: Nice, very electro, and I can imagine this as a schalger party fan anthem for years! 9/10

02. Swingfly - Me And My Drum: Much better than I expected, quite fun, borderline hyperactive tbh! A bit Madcon so I give it 7/10

03. Jenny Silver - Something In Your Eyes: - Soooo soooo ABBA, I think it's brilliant, the verse was engaging enough, but the chorus is STELLAR  9.5/10

04. Jonas Matsson - On My Own: They've improved it a lot, very catchy and likeable. If it dowesn't win it'll get Radio 2 airplay in about 9 months time  8/10

Interesting what Christer says about Eurovision. My Swedish isn't great, but I think he says something along the lines of you need to have originality to win Eurovision. Is that an addmision of where This Is My Life went wrong?

05. Le Kid - Oh My God: Wow, really like this, it's not their best song, but it's better than Escape at least  It's a lot of fun and it's as close as we'll get to Alphabeat in the contest this year (stupid Denmark). I love the fact that they're wearing their costumes for the interview and reheasal too :kink: 9/10

06. Rasmus Viberg - Social Butterfly: I like it! Very ethnic. I hope the final performance is really big though, it seems a little dull as it is. 8.5/10

07. Pernilla Andersson - Desperados: Very different to what I expected, glad to hear a song in Swedish but with country and Latin overtones, my dad always listened to country as a kid, so I quite like it. Texas Lightning meets Sheryl Crow? 7.5/10

08. Danny Saucedo - In The Club: Wow, love it, SO current, and I like his hair better this way, he never really convinced me as a blond :kink: This is probably the only song that I can hear as a UK hit in the list... 8.5/10

My predictions:

Danny and Rasmus til finalen

Jonas and Dilba til andra Chansen

Jenny 5th, Le Kid 7th :snif:

You've put Rasmus til Globen and AC :P

Jenny 5th, really?

I reckon:

1 - Danny

2 - Jenny

3 - Rasmus

4 - Dilba

5 - Le Kid

6 - Pernilla

7 - Swingfly

8 - Jonas

But Dilba and Pernilla could very easily be switched.

Right I caved, so I may as well give my opinions:

1. Dilba - Try Again: Well this isn't quite the big reinvention everyone had assumed. Dilba looks very uncomfortable with the type of song she's been given to sing, and with the choreography, and the years have not been kind to her. I do like the song, and considering she was singing very little in this rehearsal clip, it's probably not a reflection of what it will sound like tomorrow night, although I don't think this is qualifying. 7/10

2. Swingfly - Me And My Drum: Glad that the annual token rap song is out of the way fairly early this year! It is one of the better examples of the genre for me personally, and the chorus is quite contemporary. That being said I do think the rapping itself would be a bit out of place in the UK, it sounds a bit dated. Perfectly listenable, but this is one that I feel fairly confident ruling out. 5/10

3. Jenny Silver - Something In Your Eyes: Visually Kylie, auditorily Abba. I love it. I can see this being the one to get lodged in my head for days (something I'd expected Le Kid's song to do but we'll get onto that...) and it's the kind of schlager largely missing from last year's competition! To be honest I can definitely see Sweden putting this in the final, as it's what they associate with Melodifestivalen, despite the general disdain for this type of music in the press. 9/10

4. Jonas Matsson - On My Own: I liked this when it was chosen as the web wildcard, and I still do, although it hasn't been given as drastic a makeover as Come And Get Me Now, just a little bit of polishing productionwise. Not that it needed much work done to it. This would be pleasant contrast to everything before it, but as it is, they appear to have given it a bit of a silly stage performance. It would be much better with just Jonas and a guitar. His vocals aren't great either, so I'd say this won't make the cut either. 7/10

5. Le Kid - Oh My God: I was expecting big things here. This is their chance to make their big breakthrough in Sweden so I figured they'd have held back one of their best songs for the occasion. Alas, no. It's a solid effort, and I can see it being a grower, but it's not catchy or instant, and as I said in a previous post, they look like they're relying purely on their "quirkyness" to get them through to the final. It won't, but if it's performed well tomorrow this might scrape into Andra Chansen. 7/10

6. Rasmus Viberg - Social Butterfly: Fairly pleasant folky pop, well performed by Rasmus, and the staging is quite effective. Still, it's just alright, nothing to write home about, and he is a bit of a nobody. I was ready to rule this out, but it's been getting a fairly good reception online, so maybe it just has something I'm not seeing. Another one that could make Andra Chansen. 5/10

7. Pernilla Andersson - Desperados: Another pleasant song, and one I'm looking forward to hearing in full. It probably won't go anywhere but it's a pleasant listen, and different to anything else in here. Very "Radio 2." Pernilla is a pretty big deal, and the song could benefit from being the only song in Swedish this week, as well as picking up "anti-schlager" votes. A contender for the final. 6/10

8. Danny - In The Club: The most contemporary song of the lot, and when I read descriptions of this, I worried that it might meet the same fate as "Stop" or "Manipulated" from last year. However it is very catchy, and obviously Danny's vast fanbase means he won't have to worry about disqualifying. I get the feeling this will be much better recorded than live, and if it made Eurovision I'd be very worried about the 100% live vocals, but out of the eight songs here I'd say this is the safest bet for the final. I hope his rapping is confined to those few lines though. 8.5/10

Right well writing all that has helped me digest things a bit more and I feel a bit more confident with my predictions, but it's still not totally clear cut.

At the moment I see Danny winning the heat, with Jenny Silver and Pernilla Andersson battling for the remaining place in Globen. Obviously whichever one doesn't make it will go to Andra Chansen, along with either Le Kid or Rasmus. I'll predict Swingfly for last place, although none of the songs are particularly bad.

Prediction (not personal favourites):

1. Danny

2/3. Jenny/Pernilla

4/5. Le Kid/Rasmus

6/7. Dilba/Jonas

8. Swingfly

I'm looking forward to seeing Jenny Silver and Danny in full, but especially Le Kid to see if the whole thing is any better. I really hope it is, because right now I can see them missing the cut :(

Results of the audience poll after tonight's dress rehearsal:

Danny-286

Jenny-207

Pernilla-107

Swingfly-104

Rasmus-91

Jonas-40

Le Kid-20

Dilba-7

Oh wow, that's dire for Le Kid, looks like they've got no chance...

Great for Jenny, clearly seems to be the best song there (to me at least), can't wait to hear it in full! No surprise for Danny really...

@Tom - Escape is glorious, especially once the bass kicks in when the second verse starts! Telephone is Le Kid's weak link imo, although it looks as if they may have two after tomorrow...

Will be here (2000 CET iirc from last year?)! exhausted but f***ing excited :w00t:

IT'S THAT TIME OF THE YEAR AGAIN. WOOO

Probably won't watch it live, but will catch up on Youtube later tonight. Looking forward to Jenny Silver's performance. Her song last year was really good. ^_^
I'm going to be out tonight too :snif: Hope there will be a watch again link, or I'll torrent it.
I saw 'Only Girl' - and all of a sudden I am interested to hear a track. Where can I hear them?

They don't release them beforehand (these are just based off minute long rehearsal clips), but there'll be a live stream of the show up tonight.

I'm not that desperate - I just need some new music, and I saw a comparison to 'Only Girl'.
