I'm never one to divulge in Eurovision, but BLUE! WTF! seriously? another last place finish :( Even Jedward will beat us :drama:

You should listen to the track, it's quite relevant to what we've got in the charts today, I'm sure you'll like it :)

Yes, a lot of people may have thought that (not the Jedward bit, they won't be in the final). But then we heard the song and we all realised it was actually really good ;)

at least listen to the song before passing judgement -_- seriously, I think some people will just moan at whatever we've got, even if its a decent song like this year

Are you telling me that you're one of Philip Schofields twitter fans

Who is he? Is he the one of This Morning? He has Twitter :o

Erm, what?

Tyron can you read. We are seriously sending Blue. My goodness.

lol u for real?

Yes Jedwards song is $h!t yes but is kinda catchy and is perfect for Europe.

lol. Have you even heard the track?

Yes and it's ok, I'm not sure what to make of it.

I don't see how it's relevant to the charts today? sounds quite generic :(

Jedward are perfect for Eurovision though and their song is very Eurovision.

I don't think there are even enough :manson:s for JAM really.

Tyron i was only giving my opinion.

Wow at the amount of comments on my one post :o

I have listened to it! It's not even that good! The chorus is alright but the whole song is average at best.

NO NO NO NO NO.

GOD, where to begin? Do a bit of fucking research first. Jedward will flop because their song is SHIT for Europe, just as everything else that has been sent purely 'for the lolz' has done. Europe don't vote for any old shit being thrown their way, they generally prefer a bit of effort being put in and an actual SONG to be sent for it to do well. Hence why we did well when we put in effort in 2009 and why we finished last last year, and why we'll probably do well this year.

Jedward will probably do really well since their song has an instant feel to it. Unlike Blue. I actually agree about a decent song for once. Jade Ewen was an actual good singer and her song was decent and we did really well.

I know its not necessarily a work of art, but its the sort of thing thats perfect for Eurovision- a catchy, simple pop song- last year sounded like an 80s reject and was just TOO dated

I quite like Blue's song. :o And that's a first for me to like a UK Eurovision entry.

Then again, Blue were always a bit of a guilty pleasure for me

Their song has an 'instant feel' to it in much the same way as Scooch's did. The production is cheap as hell, they're obnoxious as hell, and Europe simply won't get the joke. Blue's entry is pretty anthemic, instant and current in terms of production (they have Stargate on board for goodness sake!), and they do have the benefit of being fairly well known on the Continent as well...

Jam, I know vocals don't need to be pitch perfect to win (take Lena as an example), but Jedward's vocals are far too off to even qualify.

Tryon i understand what you are saying and i agree, but i really don't think blue will do well. If they do i will hold my hands up and say i was wrong.

I do however think Jedward will do well and, same if im wrong i will do the exact same thing.

Jack Is auto tune banned from the competition? Oh and how Lena won is beyond me and how half the winners win is beyond me.

Autotune is banned from the competition, yes, and I'm telling you right now though, as someone who's been following Eurovision closely for the last ten years, you're almost certainly going to be holding those hands up at least once, if not twice...

The winners almost always tend to win off the back of being accessible, universal pop songs that at least can fit viably into the contemporary music scene's context - it's quite rare for there to be a truly unexpected winner (I'll leave gooddelta to defend the most prominent one :kink:), for the simple fact that pretty much three quarters of the entries can be discounted on the off for not fitting that formula. Not that it makes them bad songs of course...

so there goes your prediction ... :P you don't seem to get this contest :)

and I honestly believe that Blue are one of the main contenders for the win this year!

agree with Tyron, it has an instant feel to it!

If I'm wrong ill say I'm wrong.

Why is Eurovision so picky then? Don't they have to go through rounds. So you saying that they will get voted out before they reach the finals due to not fitting a certain mould or type of song. Maybe The UK's automatic inclusion in the final works against us. If we had to go through the same process as the other smaller countries we may be spared of embarrassment.

Eurovision is so picky for the same reason as all of us are picky - we want the song to fit to what we want from music. Hence why British people tend to take the piss out of half the Eastern European entries year in year out, and hence why the most universal pop songs (Fairytale, Satellite, etc.) tend to do well.

I'm saying Jedward won't make it out of the semi finals because they're painfully obnoxious as performers and Europe won't get the joke, and the song isn't up to much either to overcome it. It's cheaply produced and sung by pretty bad performers. Failure is almost inevitable.

The argument that we should go through the semis first is a fairly common one, and I think it would lead to us choosing better songs, but I think the bigger problem is that most of the time the BBC just doesn't care unless we've been hideously embarrassed the year before - as in 2008 and last year. And in fairness, they don't have any real motivation to care either - most British people wouldn't give a shit if we won Eurovision, and the BBC only has to pay about £250,000 per year for three hours which guarantees it normally at least 7 million+ viewers regardless how well we do. £250,000 would probably pay for about 10 minutes of Doctor Who. So it's a no-brainer to them really - they see no pressing need to invest in better entries as it's a ratings success they don't have to do a thing for unless we've had a particularly bruising result the year before.

Tyron i agree that we only seem to do something if we have had a particular bad year. Im interested how do the other countries decide who goes? Do they send their bet singers or their biggest stars or do they have an X Factor style competition?

Mix and match really. Some do internal selections whereby the channel in charge asks around and decides who goes. Most tend to do national finals, where you have up to any given amount of entries fight it out in a final (although you only tend to get 12 at the most in a final - if there have been any more than that in contention ordinarily there will have been semi-finals etc.) and the public vote for their favourite (although some tend to mix public votes in with votes from juries). The most prominent national final is by far Sweden's (Melodifestivalen), although there tends to be a fair amount of interest in the national finals of nations like Azerbaijan, Greece, Norway, Denmark, Russia, Finland and Iceland, as these nations have fairly good reputations for sending something worth hearing.

I'd actually advise you check out Melodifestivalen - there's a real variety in the songs that get entered there that most pop lovers would enjoy, and the contest is of such importance in Sweden that it seems to have actually transcended the Eurovision connection there. Stuff that loses in a heat in Melodifestivalen can often end up going #1 in the Swedish charts, and it's boosted countless artists' careers in Sweden...
