Interesting that their former manager Daniel felt the need to speak out about their decision to represent the UK after Blue decided to return to their former record label EMI/Innocent but not their former manager

Blue Eurovision bid 'is insanity'

The decision of boyband Blue to represent the UK at this year's Eurovision Song Contest has been described by their former manager as"reckless insanity".

The four piece will perform the self-written song I Can at the annual competition, which will take place in May in Dusseldorf, Germany.

It is the first-time since 1997 that the UK has opted for an established act to represent the country at the event. On that occasion Katrina and The Waves triumphed with Love Shine A Light.

But Blue's former manager Daniel Glatman described the decision to enter the group as "reckless insanity".

He said: "They will have to win. Anything less and their reputation would be in tatters. It is the equivalent of Lewis Hamilton entering a go-kart race - he will be the strong favourite but there is also the possibility he could lose. So why risk it?"

Bookies suggested the UK entry stands only a slim chance of victory. William Hill list Blue as 25/1 outsiders. Only Jedward - entering for Ireland - have worse odds at 33/1. Last year's UK entry Josh Dubovie came last after his song - masterminded by hit-maker Pete Waterman - picked up just 10 points.

Formed in 2000, Blue had a two-year hiatus before reforming in 2009. Over their decade long-career, the band has sold more than 13 million records, winning two Brit Awards in the process.

A documentary following the four members of the band - Antony Costa, Duncan James, Lee Ryan and Simon Webbe - as they prepare for Eurovision is due to be filmed in the coming weeks and will be aired in April.

Announcing their Eurovision nod, James said: "We're celebrating our 10 years together in 2011, so when the BBC approached us it seemed a great way to mark the occasion and also to be part of something which is still a British institution,"

Webbe added: "I've always wanted to represent my country, so this is a truly exciting experience for Blue."

Well it's clear to see how much of an arrogant bastard their old manager is - if Patricia Kaas could only get 8th, why should Blue entering be the equivalent of Lewis Hamilton entering a go-kart race? I have no time for the opinions of people who treat the contest with such contempt.
It seems that besides Blue, the national broadcaster of the United Kingdom had negotiations with group Hurts. The band twitted their reaction to BBC's decision to choose Blue as their 2011 Eurovision representatives writing the following twit:

In light of the recent dark & depressing Eurovision news from the UK, we have decided to submit our song to the good, good people of Russia.

Will we see them with Russia though? The national broadcaster, Channel One, is already discussing with various famous artists from the country and abroad. If Hurts go through and enter for Russia then a big and exciting music war will be launched!

To remind you that Hurts recently stated in an interview that they would love to pen or perform for the United Kingdom. Many back then saw it as a promotional act but it seems that there is some truth in it.

wow I'm actually gutted now :(

as Hurts >>>>>>>>>> Blue tbh.

but maybe Hurts for Russia? :o :drama:

Oh dear god - why pick Blue over Hurts? :drama:

I hope they do enter for Russia and do well with their song, as a wake up call to the BBC to stop living in the past. Then again, a British act winning for another country would leave a VERY bitter taste in many a UK ESC fans mouth, seeing as we've had no say in who gets to represent us this year.

Wonderful Life was huge over here. Radios i think still rape this song to death.
Wouldn't a Russian have to have co-written the song for them to enter? I am a HUGE fan of the band as you know, seeing them live for the 4th (:kink:) time on Thursday, but I'm not sure if I totally believe Theo here...
However, singer Duncan James told BBC Newsbeat: "There's been a lot of negativity but all we ask is, please hold off until you hear the song. We believe it's one of the best songs to enter Eurovision in a long time."

Bandmate Simon Webbe added: "Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Obviously we don't agree with [Glatman]. We believe this is going to be the best springboard for us to come back on.

He added of the James and Lee Ryan-penned 'I Can': "It's very anthemic. It's very positive. It was a no-brainer for us. This song for us we feel is Blue; this would have been our first single whether it was for Eurovision or not."

I know not to trust everything they say, but the fact they believe it's one of the best songs to enter in a long time, a pretty bold statement, it surely can't be bad.

Well Hurts are hardly popular in the UK anyways so if they were to represent Russia at Eurovision and win, it'd be a massive "two fingers" to the brainless bunch at the BBC and whilst UK suffer another catastrophic Eurovision blow, Hurts will probably become ever bigger in Europe. They don't need the UK anyways. As doesn't Amy Macdonald, Mika, Depeche Mode, Melanie C, Duffy, James Blunt etc... (all still popular to some extent in Europe compared to UK). Watch your backs Tinchy Stryder, Chipmunk, Tinie Tempah, Taio Cruz etc.. it could you joining this ever growing list in 5 years time.

True, I guess a typical Brit response to Hurts being picked and then Blue announcing over Twitter that they'd not been chosen might be;

'OMG who the hell are Hurts? A Blue comeback would have been amaaaaazing!1!!!!'

Shame Hurts basically slipped under the radar here save for a week in the top 5 albums :(

Thank god its not a 'written for Eurovision' song and one which they would have released and felt strong enough as their comeback single anyway! I very much doubt this will finish them off even if they don't do that well - They had 2 million selling albums in the UK and their is alot of fans [Take That style] that have grown up and are pleased to see them back - They have a huge reunion tour planned too.

I'm obsessed with Hurts [seeing them on Thursday too Tom :kink:] - They are the kind of band that could walk ESC especially with the success they have had in places such as Finland, Russia, Poland etc, - I am almost glad they are not representing the UK though they would have been discarded whatever the result whereas if they did perform for Russia they would massively enhance their European success and not even have to worry about the UK. Hopefully if it did happen the BBC might finally sit up and take notice!

Blue? Really? Oh dear, what a SHAME.

Hurts would have been an inspired choice. -_-

According to this article, maybe so :o

So 5th wasn't considered a success?

If they're having trouble paying for the contest then I'd prefer if they toned down the events a little bit and focused more on the performance and songs. I'm sure there's many fancy extras we don't really need.

The extras add cost, but even without them hosting the thing would take a fair whack out of the BBC's budget...

I can understand why they wouldn't want to host because of costs...

but it is rather depressing to think that countries would send rubbish songs on purpose so they don't have to host. Doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of the contest to begin with?

This is a slightly late realisation - there have been accusations that countries have been doing this ever since the early 90s when RTE were purposely trying not to win after two wins on the trot, before managing a third anyway! Have you not heard of My Lovely Horse?

Blue - All Rise

Sounds very much like 'Flåklypa Theme'

Or maybe more familiar for you guys as 'Multicyde - Not For The Dough :)

It wasn't released here but I almost sent it to BJSC once  You're right they do sound incredibly similar.

I never mentioned that I didn't already know it was going on, I was just commenting on it.
