Posted July 16, 201014 yr Karen Gillan: 'Matt Smith isn't leaving Doctor Who' Monday, July 19 2010, 16:57 BST By Catriona Wightman, TV Reporter Source: digitalspy Karen Gillan has insisted that Matt Smith has no plans to leave Doctor Who. Earlier this month, reports suggested that Smith was planning to quit his role as the Doctor to pursue a film career. However, The Daily Telegraph reports that Gillan has now dismissed the claims. "Matt will be sticking around," she said. "I think those rumours were made up." Gillan, who plays the Doctor's companion Amy, also revealed that filming for the Doctor Who Christmas special is under way and described the atmosphere on set as "great". July 16, 201014 yr Well... good, I don't like him anyway, hopefully Sean Pertwee is up for the role next.
July 16, 201014 yr Oh :( That is not good. Too many changes  But i guess the good thing is that it will make the show fresh. Hopefully Karen stays at least as long as Billie.
July 16, 201014 yr Oh NO :( This isn't good at all! He's really starting to come into his own doctor now with the prospect in the next run to better Tennant. I REALLY hope it's not true.
July 17, 201014 yr So The Sun publishes the story and everyone believes it! What utter garbage. The only way I'll believe he's going is if the BBC puts out a statement.
July 17, 201014 yr Coming from The Sun we can't really believe it just yet but if it did turn out to be true it's a shame as he's really great in the role. It's quite a short term role anyway though and 2 or 3 years is probably about right. Edited July 17, 201014 yr by Swagger91
July 17, 201014 yr I saw this in the paper itself and I don't believe it. I'm sure he dreams of bigger things but he's in a good place at the mo. I don't think he'll leave just yet.
July 17, 201014 yr I'v never watched doctor who, but isn't matt smith in a film about a man moving to berlin in the 30's out soon? I remember wanting to see it, so maybe if that takes off he will just go in to movies.
July 25, 201014 yr I'm glad he'll be staying. I can't face up to another Doctor leaving especially when it went all OTT when Tenant quit.
July 25, 201014 yr It was pretty obvious it was bull but i'm still very glad that he is staying though.
July 30, 201014 yr He stays, he goes, who cares...? I'd be far more gutted if Karen Gillan left tbh, she is without doubt the star of Season 5, all Matt Smith is is a passable David Tennant impersonator at best... Well, the beeb couldn't afford Tennant's wages anymore could they, so they had to draft in the understudy..... And frankly, after seeing the fantastic Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock, I feel he would've been a vastly better Doctor than Smith could ever be, I think Moffat made a mistake in the casting frankly....
