21. New Politics 'Yeah Yeah Yeah' submitted by West.

West's votes:

01 - Pallers

02 - Magic Kids

03 - Veto

04 - HEALTH

05 - Midlake

06 - The Naked and Famous

08 - Who Knew

10 - David Holmes

12 - A Place To Bury Strangers

15 - Chequerboard

Maximum points from the five remaining voters would give David Holmes 172 points, so The Naked and Famous isn't quite victorious yet. A Place To Bury Strangers looks like it may sneak into the top despite losing 15 points, and 15 to Chequerboard puts them in contention too.

I entered it partly because it's very different from my usual tastes. It's completely bonkers but I've always loved it since I first heard it about 30 years ago. I can't remember how I heard it but I suspect it was John Peel. Klaus Nomi also did a completely whacky version of Falling In Love Again and a surprisingly straight version of Can't Help Falling In Love - more like the Elvis version than the Stylistics version. Total Eclipse (not of the heart) is even more bonkers. He was a German singer who died of Aids in the early 80s.

Lightning Strikes was originally a hit for Lou Christie in the 60s sounding rather like the Four Seasons but I assumed most people wouldn't know the song.

Sorry you hated it :(

And we both gave our 15 to the same song which fits in with your comment about our tastes :D

Chequerboard puts them in contention too.

Contention for a Top 15 place!!!! :)

Amazed that 2 people have it full marks. I never expected that.

Oh no worries, it at least stood out! :D

I just thought it was a very odd song really - did you also submit that Neil Hannon cricket themed song on ChC?

So The Naked and Famous win which sees the battles at the bottom and for second more interesting. David Holmes has a decent lead and looks good for a top 3 position. Caitlin's two points puts it ahead of BSBTRGDCLUB at the bottom. Since it recieved 12 points off NickF1 none of the other 22 voters have given it any points.

Oh no worries, it at least stood out! :D

I did, yes  It's good to enter something out of the ordinary!

The success of The Naked and Famous completely baffles me.

12 for Diamond Rings puts them up to 6th, it's quietly crept up from low top 20 and now may trouble the top 5. Also in the top 3 are Gauntlet Hair and Magic Kids as they push on for top 10 finishes.

Yay!! Although I do feel kinda bad now because the whole indie crowd will castrate me for entering this 'M83 rip off' of a song, but I'm glad a lot of people discovered and enjoyed it, which was the main aim really.

Would have preferred David Holmes, Gauntlet Hair or HEALTH to win personally tho. : (

Why? I thought it was a clear winner early on. A pop song with indie appeal = appealing to both audiences (hence like everyone voting for it lol). It's the same reason bands like Phoenix / Passion Pit are so huge, they're pop bands but they get praise from indie publications. Though The Naked and Famous haven't really gotten any critical acclaim / reviews yet as they're more just a buzzband right now.

Makes me sending Young Blood to BJSC look pretty uninspired after the runaway win here but I promise I didn't discover it here, rather on iTunes NZ a few weeks back  Fantastic song though, and deserved winner of this, even if I didn't submit a song or vote...

24. Miriam Stockley 'Perfect Day' submitted by Casey.

Casey's votes:

01 - Veto

02 - Magic Kids

03 - Republic of Loose

04 - Globus

05 - Pallers

06 - Utada

08 - BSBTRGDCLUB

10 - Chequerboard

12 - Slagsmålsklubben

15 - HEALTH

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y101/ms_r/Unknown%20Pleasures/vote25-casey.jpg

HEALTH back into the top 3 now, with only the second person not to vote for The Naked and Famous! 12 points from two votes to get to 200 points? Utada gets 6 to push it off the bottom and into 23rd, whilst BSBTRGDCLUB get a second conescutive vote. Positions 2-5 become very tight again. The 12 for Slagsmålsklubben puts Casey's own entry out of the top 5.

I knew The Naked And Famous was going to win as soon as I saw posters discussing their thoughts on the songs. It's certainly a worthy winner but imo 'Young Blood' lacks a decent chorus.

With your record this probably makes it your least inspired entry ever! :P
