I'm getting increasingly nervous regarding Alexandra being playlisted! :drama:

I wonder if Shontelle will be playlisted in the coming weeks. It would be mad not to playlist her since she's finally scored her first US Top 20 hit with 'Impossible'.

Uh oh... releasing 'A Star Is Born' is not a good move for Jay-Z, have a feeling it's gonna bomb on its ass :( Although I guess it's slightly more chart friendly than On To The Next One.

Anyway, The Count And Sinden, Vampire Weekend, Brandon Flowers, Kele

The xx, Caspa, Chase & Status, The Drums climbing

SWY has got 2 more chances. I fully expect it to be playlisted next week.
To whoever decided to take a big swipe at a whole bunch of genres with that "indie" comment, how many times can we put this, the singles chart is not the only paramter by which you measure success on the playlist. Live shows are a big one but album sales are a huge factor as well - currently "Closer to the Edge" isn't in the top 40 yet it's helping the album repeak because Radio 1 are backing the singles.
I wondered why I heard 'New York' loads on Radio 1 recently.

Hasn't that song been out ages? :s

Its a new version with added "Ghostface Killah"

Strange thing is, isn't it the original version that Radio 1 keep playing? I don't think it actually the one with Ghostface Killah that I've been hearing
Pretty awful additions, with the exception of Brandon who is good, and Kele, whose new song I haven't heard. The other newies I just youtubed and am not a fan of. And in place of Kylie is just disgraceful :kink:

You didn't even like Count and Sinden "After Dark"? :(

It's very good actually! Skim listened to it first but gave it a more detailed listen after your reaction to me not liking it

Exactly. No matter how you measure it there are not many pop bands that play their show in front of 10,000 people every day (like 30STM five times in a row on Wembley arena). And many of those 10,000 buy the album too.

If you're not RnB or fu****g rap act - the chances of getting playlisted are slim.

Not really, plenty of bands like Vampire Weekend and All Time Low are there simply because they're reasonably established names that need a bit of a leg-up in the singles chart. If anything, R1 is trying to make the charts more varied!

LOL Paloma

Kele  Get that A-list gurl!

why is it a bad playlist? people need to look outside of the top 75 and see there are other gauges for success? concerts, streaming, general media presense/talk. just because a song hasn't gone top 40 doesn't make it unpopular with radio 1's target listenership (i.e. 18-30 yo). why should it be the dancey/campy/poppy stuff that gets playlisted? like every other radio station? go to kiss or capital for that. radio 1 offer an alternative for bands that don't get a look in elsewhere. the xx for example being a-listed and they're on a smaller label.

for years and years the major record labels have forced their way forward with glossy dead-end cashcows for artists and things seem to finally be changing. the face of POP and POPULAR seems to be shifting now in a more fluid and creative direction. it makes me sad that people's utter obsession with the official chart and personal gives them tunnel-vision with what's appropriate to be playlisted by radio 1.

New York :wub!!! As one of the best songs to come out of the retro-revival, I've always thought it did unjustifiably badly to begin with :(
Paloma a-listed? Seriously, I love this song but the remix is awful!

I wish Jay-Z was releasing Already Home - I think it's far better. Surprised R1 playlisted this single as they ignored it a few months ago.

They better playlist Shontelle - that song is immense!

I SWEAR paloma faith new york was brought out like a year ago :o ?
