While it seems like a solvable situation if this does escalate into the ceasefire being scrapped and Israel bombing again it would be a huge failure on Trump’s part. He’s come across completely one sided and ultimately if hostages are Hamas only leverage they’re going to think twice about giving them up if the plan is to remove Palestinians from Gaza after.

If Hamas give up the hostages Israel will just.. blow them up in pieces? Fecking madness that people think the current Israel & American governments have logically working brains. Would say it's 99% likely trump has absolutely nothing to do with the original ceasefire and merly rubber stamped it and took the plaudits.

Like I've always said, everyone needs friends. Suspect America will have Israel and conceded all soft power to China by 2029.

What is that 11-year-old going to think about Israel as he grows up? That's why Israel's murderous campaign is so insane. It just stirs up further hatred against their state.

If Hamas releases all hostages by the weekend, Israel will still resume the destruction of Gaza before long. Israel's refusal to say that they would extend the ceasefire beyond the original deadline even if the hostages were released simply plays into Hamas's hands. They have always been worried that Israel would simply increase their onslaught if there was no longer any risk of killing hostages. They will say that the events of the last few days justify that fear.
Well the hostage releases continued without much issue in the end which is good for now. Though the stories of Palestinian releases does show how ridiculous Israel’s destruction of Hamas is. They have essentially abducted often innocent Gazans. Kept them in terrible conditions and treated them like terrorists. Then now they’re releasing them in exchange for hostages. So Israel has taken an innocent teenager. Now that teenager and his whole family credit Hamas for his release. How do you proclaim to be defeating an organization you’re promoting to an extent. It’s just a never ending cycle.
The released hostages really are the problem here

The problem is the cycle which has been going on for 50 years. The aim(supposedly) to destroy Hamas. The actions are creating a situation in which support for Hamas grows thus doing the opposite of the aim. Most of the Palestinians released were basically hostages too.

And the west have the cheek to say ‘Hamas are in democratic blah blah blah’ and wonder how the hell we have got here??

Israel and the US spent years saying that there should be elections in the Palestinian territories. Unfortunately, after years of hostility towards Palestinians by Israel, those first elections resulted in Hamas doing rather well. Then Israel and the US said "That's not what we meant".

Israel have refused to allow aid or anything into Gaza in an attempt to strong arm/blackmail Hamas into prolonging stage 1 of the ceasefire.

Stage 2 meant the ceasefire had to be permanent and Israel had to withdraw fully from Gaza. They don’t want to do this. So instead They wanted to prolong stage 1. Hamas want to keep to the original agreement.

Israel’s response is to once again punish the population by blocking aid into Gaza. Essentially another war crime. There has been so many that it doesn’t really cause any real outage anymore.

Israel blocks entry of all humanitarian aid into Gaza

Netanyahu is demanding Hamas agree to a US plan for a ceasefire extension, the Palestinian group says blocking aid is "cheap blackmail".

Unsurprisingly they’ve started targeting minority sects and Christians.

Western meddling in Middle East disputes never works out well

I wouldn't characterise the now-Syrian government as particularly Western-backed? They did that themselves (+ help from Turkey).

Awful scenes but too early to judge whether this is an aberration (as the government are claiming) or the first of many.

Israel killed 300+ in Gaza last night in a tirade of resumed attacks on an already starved and medically defunct population after talks did not lead to continuing the ceasefire. US warships moved towards Iran too.

Trump’s Israel first agenda may well be his downfall among a lot of people.

From what I’ve heard, Israel breaking the ceasefire was partly Donald Trump’s doing as he gave them the green light to restart their bombing of Gaza.

Dropping bombs on tents of dozens of people is obscene then knowing it’ll overwhelm hospitals that are barely functioning. It’s just straight up evil. Trump is no better than the previous administration at this point.

The IDF will continue its ground operation in Gaza "with increasing intensity" until Hamas remaining hostages, Israel Katz says.

The international communities failure to turn on Israel has created this situation where they’ve gave up the pretence of even pretending they’re acting within the law. They’re now threatening taking land as a blackmail negotiation threat and I fear if they do there will be very little pushback to it.

For those not following events Israel has been in an unprecedented level of savagery. They recently targeted aid medics. Killing several on purpose despite it being clear they were medics. As per usual Israel gave a completely different version of events claiming they were a threat. Footage has since proven Israel to be lying. They regularly target aid workers and journalists to stop people volunteering to help Palestinians or document what they’re doing

They also bombed a school killing dozens upon dozens there seeking refuge

And a twitter account with 300k+ followers has come under fire for celebrating murdering the grandson of an Hamas leader the grandson being just two years old

As conflicts go I’ve never seen one with so many documented war crimes out in the open as this one in my lifetime but the general public are fatigued from it and no longer seem to care

I agree, people are powerless to do anything. The west is a disgrace and the hypocrisy shines perfectly in these situations. As Macklemore says it’s ‘f***ed Up!!’

Genocide is clearly fine when it comes from a pro west force!

Really did hone in that a two state solution isn’t going to be likely without major intervention.
