You'd probably only get like three sets of votes tbh.

as long as Bieber does not appear it'll be okay

long live king Brandon

I'd vote in a male version, as it'd far more interesting than the female one imo! :o I'd run it too if I knew how Graham did it all. :P

I mean she doesn't bother trying to push the boat out with her music anymore, her videos are cheapo, quickly-shot crap when once they were epics with imagination behind them, and she just chases the latest trends whilst wearing as few clothes as she possibly can. She clearly isn't passionate about making music anymore and Hard Candy was one of the most shockingly awful albums ever made by a mainstream popstar still near the peak of their popularity. She's stopped caring - she's just a celeb now who spends her time hanging off the arm of her latest toyboy.

I totally agree on this point. "Hard Candy" was frankly embarrasing - a woman in her 50s spreading her legs open, spending her videos thrusting her veiny crotch about, discovering Timbaland 2 years too late, and Pharrell Williams 5 years too late. From that moment on, she ceased to be a trendsetter and pioneer, and became a desperate crone scrounging around Nelly Furtado's cast-offs.

The "Celebration" era, another mess. I liked the "Celebration" track, but in a generic gay way - looking at it objectively it was a weak shadow of her "Confessions" era, with nursery rhyme lyrics to boot. "Revolver" was just out and out repulsive.

And really, a GH 2-disc set comprising the biggest and best of the all-time biggest female popstar's career? It should have been an absolute EPIC. Instead the whole thing felt very lacklustre. The unbalanced tracklisting, where she devoted half of the album to her ignored debut hits like Burning Up at the expense of acclaimed singles like The Power Of Goodbye gave off the impression of someone stuck in the 1980s rather than a woman with 3 decades of success. f*** all promotion, that Glee special seemed to do more for sales than anything Madonna contributed.

When you look back at Madonna circa 1998, it's quite clear the woman has actually managed to REGRESS.

Well I only really like Madonna for two phases of her career - from the start to Like A Prayer and then from Ray Of Light onwards, so that's a good chunk of her output (the miserable 90s R&B-lite crap) out of the window. I've always loved Hollywood though - I just love how it builds and builds, and the slightly bizarro lyrics, and her wonderful vocal delivery. Highly underrated song. Aside from that my favourites would be Jump and The Power Of Goodbye if that's any consolation?!

You have redeemed yourself slightly. Jump and The Power Of Goodbye would find a place in my Madge top 10. I don't totally dismiss the early 90s though, there's some hidden gems there. Although the whole Erotica thing was a bit cringey, her downtempos like Rain and You'll See were marvellous. And her video for Bedtime Story is easily amongst her very best.

i think Bjorks wife will do a male one. if not id be prepared to help out

I kinda agree. Hard Candy is a bit hard to swallow as a fan at first but overall now I love it. People really need to give it a chance. Stop thinking of the image and for once think about the actual music. I couldnt give a f*** how old she is or how much her legs are spread. People need to get passed it and think about the music. Isnt that what its all about.

And the whole "From that moment on, she ceased to be a trendsetter and pioneer, and became a desperate crone scrounging around Nelly Furtado's cast-offs" just really makes me laugh for the simple facts that for over 20 years of her career she was a trendsetter/pioneer and because of Hard Candy all of a sudden she is a desperate crone scrounger. Some people really need to get grip and get some respect.

You need to get over this thing about 'nobody thinking of the music' when they critique Hard Candy. THEY WERE. The songs were almost all dated, practically parodies of Timbaland's earlier work with Justin and Nelly. There was absolutely nothing original or interesting about most of the album. My 'favourite' song is Spanish Lesson, just because it's something a bit different from the DUFF DUFF DUFF DRUMROLL SYNTHLINE DUFF DUFF recycled beats which populated the rest of the album. But really it's a huge embarassment from start to end, legs open OR closed.

Alicia Keys

Beyonce

Britney Spears

Christina Aguilera

Kelly Clarkson

Kylie Minogue

Lady Gaga

Leona Lewis

P!nk

Rihanna

Quite frankly, amazing top 10 imo. I personally think, we're in for a "shock" victory, in the name of P!nk. Deservedly so though!

and Gaga wrote Bad Romance and Just Dance.

Who else in the Top 10 can claim that?

Forgive my ignorance but who in the Top 10 actually writes their own biggest hits?

All of the top 10, have at least written/Co-written some/most of their songs.

Hollywood as Madonna's best song of her entire career? That's a brave statement. Personally, I'd put it at roughly her 61st. Frozen does it for me.
'Frozen' Her second best behind 'Like A Prayer' for me.

Either way, Brandon Flowers will win :P
THIS! :kink:

Oh and on the whole, Madge not coming top 10... She is distinctly average. I realise she's an icon to many, many stars now and I understand everything she's done for the music industry blah blah... but it doesn't mean I have to like her or her material. 95% of her singles have no appeal to me whatsoever. 'Like A Prayer', 'Frozen', 'Sorry', 'Die Another Day' & 'Papa Don't Preach' are all amazing. The likes of 'Vogue', 'Like A Virgin', 'Ray of Light' & 'Hollywood' are absolutely VILE. (all imo obviously :P)

I'm not gonna do a male one. I'm moving back to uni-town next week so I won't have time cos it takes FOREVER. :P I had to add all the votes up 3 times to make sure I had everything right

BUT if anybody wishes to do it after the results of this are done, I will tell them how I did this one and they can decide if they want to do their own formula etc. ^_^

I think you'll find I DID comment on the music, in fact you actually quoted the part where I did, so your whole "People need to get past it and think about the music" is completely baffling.

You've got to call a spade a spade. If someone comes out with a load of toilet like Hard Candy, it doesn't make the blindest bit of difference if they USED to be good. Hard Candy is not made any better because Madonna also did Ray Of Light or Like A Prayer.

As Jark said, she was completely mimmicking Justin and Nelly, trying to flog the sound of 2006 in 2008. Does that sound like a trendsetter to you?

I think Hard Candy had a few good songs on it such as Voices, Devil Wouldn't Recognise You and Miles Away but the rest was poop

Yes she is a trendsetter. Always has been and always will. She is not gonna stop being one just becuase of one album that may have been a bit dated at the time.

No, she WAS a trendsetter. If you can give me one decent example of how she's currently setting trends in the pop world I will retract my statement.

I feel quite bad for Madge. Hard Candy isn't a bad album, but the fact that it was released by Madonna, who has set huge standards for herself, made it look worse.
