July 7, 201410 yr Author I read it as in there's going to be a Christmas special in 2015, presumably shown on Christmas Day, then they will be shooting the 4th series in early 2016.
January 2, 201510 yr Fourth series confirmed for this year in BBC One's "Enjoy 2015" trailer: OP1ZaXgqL94
January 2, 201510 yr I think that's just the special that they're doing, with the fourth series being next year!
January 2, 201510 yr I think that's just the special that they're doing, with the fourth series being next year! Ugh, specials. When did series become so hard to come by?!
January 2, 201510 yr They're having a Christmas special this year followed by the regular series in 2016 (airing slightly later in the year than series 2 and 3 - probably Summer like series 1). So we actually get an extra episode because the series runs every two years (2010-2012-2014-2016).
February 7, 201510 yr Some pics from filming of the special!: http://i1.cdnds.net/15/06/618x823/uktv-sherlock-holmes-filming-1.jpg http://i1.cdnds.net/15/06/618x755/uktv-sherlock-holmes-filming-4.jpg http://i1.cdnds.net/15/06/618x412/uktv-sherlock-holmes-filming-2.jpg http://i1.cdnds.net/15/04/618x857/uktv-sherlock-filming-in-gloucester-01.jpg Source = Digital Spy, Copyright = 1-3: Getty Images/Simon James, 4: Splash/Wakeham Looks like it will be a Victorian based episode which feels very bizarre but then it is just a special!
March 17, 201510 yr Sherlock's upcoming special will be set in Victorian London. The show's co-creator Steven Moffat confirmed that the one-off 90-minute episode is entirely separate from other instalments. Moffat told Entertainment Weekly: "The special is its own thing. We wouldn't have done the story we're doing, and the way we're doing it, if we didn't have this special. "It's not part of the run of three episodes. So we had this to do it - as we could hardly conceal - it's Victorian. [Co-creator Mark Gatiss]and me, we wanted to do this, but it had to be a special, it had to be a separate entity on its own. "It's kind of in its own little bubble." The writer confirmed that filming for the special is almost complete, adding that he is very pleased with what they have produced. Sherlock's special will air later this year ahead of a new three-episode series. http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/s129/sherlo...~p7bx5ygaKdKnA8 Victorian setting / stand alone episode confirmed.
March 18, 201510 yr Author http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/s129/sherlo...~p7bx5ygaKdKnA8 Victorian setting / stand alone episode confirmed. Bizzare. Though I'm interested as to how they're going to explain this.
March 20, 201510 yr It feels a bit gimmicky especially after they've made the concept work so well in the modern era but I'll see how it turns out.
March 28, 201510 yr Steven Moffatt speaking about the fourth series Moffat said that the series will represent "an emotional upheaval", and leave fans desperate for series 5. Hinting at plot developments, Moffat said: "There are answers coming to questions which nobody has asked. There's one thing that no one has really brought up…" He went on to say that sometimes fans of the show overlook what he considers to be important points in the plot. "Sometimes people go mad for one thing we think is quite trivial and completely ignore something we think is standing right in front of you." In the interview with Entertainment Weekly, Moffat also spoke about the evolution of show, from the forming of a friendship to the fear of losing loved ones. "[season four] is going to be… I suppose you'd say… consequences. It's consequences. Chickens come to roost. It's dark in some ways - obviously it's great fun and a Sherlock Holmes romp and all that - but there's a sense of things coming back to bite you." He added: "It's going to be more of an emotional upheaval. Hopefully enjoyable and fun, all the things Sherlock must always be. It will be tough at times." I can probably imagine it will involve Mary dying or something...
July 10, 20159 yr It's going to be broadcast in select cinemas as well. http://i2.cdnds.net/15/28/618x758/uktv-sherlock-first-look.jpg I have to say I'm not really excited for this as to me, it seems pretty pointless. I would much rather it was just a modern day special.
November 25, 20159 yr The synopsis for the Christmas special has been released. The episode will air on New Years Day and will take place in the Victorian era and therefore will not be part of the previous Sherlock canon. http://news-entertainment.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/wpid-Sherlock-Dr-John-Watson-MARTIN-FREEMAN-Sherlock-Holmes-BENEDICT-CUMBERBATCH1.jpg "Dr John Watson, meet Mr Sherlock Holmes." We've been here before - but what if this wasn't the modern day but the late Victorian period? What if the world's most famous consulting detective and his best friend lived in a Baker Street of steam trains, hansom cabs, top hats and frock-coats? "Welcome to Sherlock in 1895! Some things, though, remain reassuringly the same. Friendship, adventure and especially, MURDER... Why is Thomas Ricoletti a little surprised to see his wife dressed in her old wedding gown? Because, just a few hours before, she took her own life... Mrs Ricoletti's ghost now appears to be prowling the streets with an unslakeable thirst for revenge. From fog-shrouded Limehouse to the bowels of a ruined church, Holmes, Watson and their friends must use all their cunning to combat an enemy seemingly from beyond the grave and the final, shocking truth about... the Abominable Bride!
January 2, 20169 yr I usually love Sherlock but thought it was absolutely dreadful, so boring and especially confusing and really hated it :(
January 2, 20169 yr It was ok but I kept being beaten over the head with the notion 'men are pigs, women are awesome' which became tedious.
January 2, 20169 yr Author I thought I would hate it, but I really, really enjoyed it. OK it was far the very best, but it was the best way to give us a Sherlock fix without giving us a massive clifhanger for another year. I thought it got a bit over complicated in parts, but I really enjoyed it. The bride was quite terrifying - and it explained how Moriarty was "alive".
January 2, 20169 yr I thought it was excellent. The Victorian era stuff was much lighter and fun than the traditional episodes (and certainly all of S3, which was achingly self serious) and it was nice to see them all playing something a little bit different, even if essentially still the same. The story was a tad convoluted, but then there have been far worse examples of that in the short history of the show too. It was also good to see them tackle the Moriarty thing in a less straightforward and inventive way. It could still turn out to be another total waste of hype/interest and be a total mess, but these first steps have been very interesting. 9/10
January 3, 20169 yr I really enjoyed the first half of this, I thought we were finally getting back to having stories and mysteries that you could try and solve as the viewer... but then it all went a bit weird in the second half and whilst I do agree with John that it was an inventive way to try and deal with the open questions about Moriarty and his death, I do feel it was at the expense of having a fully fleshed out mystery story. I was also a bit freaked out during the story as at first I could have sworn I knew the story about the bride coming back from the dead (has this been used in a previous adaptation or something?) and then I felt like I'd been in some of the rooms in the story before... and then I realised that it was because I had been there before as it was filmed in a National Trust property I visited in the Summer! In summary... I really enjoyed having it back and indeed the episode itself, I just wish we had two episodes so that the bride's story could have been further elaborated on.
