That would be a far better list of #1's for the most part than the dire list we've had in reality...It's no coincidence that the majority of these were from already available albums, so they lose out on a lot of 'potential #1' sales on their way to the top end of the charts. That 7,000 they've amassed at some week at #30 on the way up could be the difference between them being #1 or #2 a month later. Obviously all of the #1's that have disappeared quickly are those with pent up demand that have debuted at #1 and then the demand quickly dissolves after the initial burst of popularity.

The only way this can particularly be recitfied is if every song is released to iTunes as soon as it leaks/premieres, in line with basically every other country in the world. It's bizarre that record companies treat our chart so differently to every other country in the world, with #1 being the be all and end all for a lot of pop acts (JLS, The Wanted, Saturdays etc...) and so many songs held back for 6-8 weeks after the initial radio plays. It's obviously a better situation than 10 years ago when this was the case for every single release, at least now we get to see 2nd/3rd album singles grow organically, but they really should just release the lead singles as soon as they leak too and stop worrying about that coveted #1. It must be highly embarrassing for the acts when they realise that the week after they've tumbled down to the bottom of the top ten...hardly a worthy #1. This isn't the Westlife/McFly era, and it's a shame that manufactured pop acts and their record companies want to bring this crappy fad back. They'd get a lot more sales overall (and make more money!) if they released every song straight away. I really don't understand that business model

But the thing is Rich... record companies know everything, and we know nothing. Isn't that right? ^_^

i agree with this, it's really puzzling, If songs were released straight away there would be less illegal downloading and they'd pick up sales from people who instantly like the song but go off it by the time of release.

I'd love if songs were released whenever on any given day, illegal downloading would go down SO much, anyway, hopefully that'll happen, however, I could see sales being a lot more front-loaded, but we'd see more sales.
But the thing is Rich... record companies know everything, and we know nothing. Isn't that right? ^_^

Could someone show me what's happened. People keep saying things like this, but I don't know why!

If this is the official representative for AATW - oh dear basically.

wow that's horrendous, it's amazing how they think cutting the song down so short will make people buy it and have a better chance at radio playing it. That is obviously because radio have been playing songs only that short for like forever and people buy music the shorter it is.

Looks like Roll Deep are going #1 again. That's alright, I don't have anything against the song, it just feels a little bit more generic UK hip hop/urban than most other generic UK hip hop/urban songs...

Chase & Status need to pick up the pace pronto and go top 10, I'm a bit worried it might stall at #11 :( It really needs to outpeak End Credits. Either way I don't think it'll be around long anyway.

One Night Only are absolutely crawling up now, I think they'll start falling tomorrow and end up at around low top 30/high top 40 on Sunday a la Devlin.

Inna still has a good shot at top 10 / number 11 (as the 10-11 gap is monstrous ATM, even against the climbing Chase & Status), Hot took a while to climb up too.

The Count And Sinden look like they could get their first top 40 hit :o I didn't see that happening with this song, but so pleased it's looking to do so :D

Klaxons still low but gaining fairly quickly... hope it can go at least top 40 I guess? :( Hopefully 'Surfing The Void' will be big at least.

Spaceship should go top 75/100 then, that's pretty good for it.

Forgot Caspa was out this week :o Hope he can climb a bit more and get some 'proper' dubstep into the top 40, but if we have to wait for Katy B for that that's fine too :kink: But Back For The First Time, huge tune.

Fun fact: there are two artists with new releases this week that fit the initials 'C&S' :D

I know. Very stupid, AATW are basically treating the entire British public as the sorts of people who they aim their Clubland series at these days 'Cars! Hot girls! Drinking! Attention span of a goldfish!?! come and get your 2 minute song now!'. I hate the way they generalise all dance music fans into this category. On the contrary, most dance music fans prefer 7/8 minute club mixes, so god knows where they got this 2 minute thing from?

I left a comment in that topic just now  I'll probably get abuse hurled at me from AATW loons defending their every move but I don't really care...the more criticism they get, perhaps they'll start to listen - probably not though. I've heard of people looning over a band, a TV show or a celebrity, but a record label? I've seen it all now.

Written in the stars now hitting music channels on TV, going to do well, top 2 again for tinie tempah.

*goes and sees what you put*

Yeah most people who like the authentic dance genre prefer the full mixes.

Oh no! I hope Chase and Status get top 10 at least, its far to good to miss out

Roll Deep will get to number 1 before the day is out then, I hope it has a chart run like Good Times but without two more weeks at number 1 <_<

Roll Deep are Number One!

#1 on mine now too i like this song :D

Roll Deep deserve to go to 1 only for a short time on itunes. I hope they cannot hold on to it and something anything overtakes them as the week goes on.I do not know what is worse the song or the video.

HURRAH!

Just to be different, Green Light is one of my favourite songs of the year, whereas I care little for Love The Way You Lie and Club Can't Handle Me. Hope it goes #1 officially :D

*sighs*

I actually quite like the video  :naughty:

Yeah, the song just sounds the same as Good Times- its not awful, just doesnt deserve number 1 imo

Wish people would stop saying songs don't deserve #1...Clearly they do if they are liked enough to get to #1.

It's all down to personal opinion..Jeez.

P.S : Sorry to be on such a downer lately, I haven't a clue what's going on with my posts they are so negative lately, don't take offence to them.

It will actually be my favourite #1 of 2010 to date personally if it gets there officially, taking over Good Times  I'm not counting Bad Romance as that was originally #1 last year.

I really don't think it sounds the same/as generic as Good Times. It's got the same female pop chorus/rap verse structure, but it's got a more interesting bassline in my opinion, rather than one ripped from DJ Sammy's cover of Heaven. I rank both amongst my favourite songs of the year though.
