What version of the original have you watched? It's only a few minutes shorter.

I think I'm going to wait for the DVD unless I can find it online rather than trying to get in despite being two years too young, but I'm very pleased to hear all the good reviews.

I got in without being ID'd and I look about 14. that said I brought my ticket from a machine and then just walked in to the screen. without anyone checking my ticket. I could have basically gone in for free, stupid f***ing cinema. Award season is coming up though, wouldn't be surprised if there is a pretty decent dvdscr version up before the dvd release. it will be worth the wait anyway!

and Pavel I know how you feel about cinema audiences, I enjoy the cinema but it does get riciulous these days I don't know what prices are like in Russia but cinema prices here have risen so much it's ridiculous, you pay for an overpriced ticket to then sit in the cinema with everyone being a dick, when you could just sit at home and watch a pirate version without having to pay their ridiculous price.

:o How does it even work? Surely everyone would go in for free if they knew? Or are British people too honest to do that?

Cinema prices here vary. If you go before midday on a week day you pay like 3 pounds, if later then it's 4 quid, 6 quid - after 5 pm on saturday and sunday.

I don't know, I'd never been to that cinema before, you wouldn't be able to do it in the cinema I normally go to.

I dread the day I can no longer use student discount.

Is it a good or a bad WOTTTTTT? :o

In here student discounts are only eligible one day a week or something that ridiculous :(

Stunning film. Some parts were so unbearably tense that I was basically doubled over. Fincher is probably the best director out there today or at least the best within the thriller genre without a doubt. Perfectly cast leads. I guessed who the culprit was and I was right but I didn't think it was overly obvious or anything, there was just something unsettling about that person which tied in nicely with the speech they gave Blomkvist about trusting your instincts (the entire sequence in that person's house was actually quite terrifying). And then I really liked seeing the calm after the storm with Mikael and Lisbeth returning to normal life. Honestly can't imagine what this film could have done to be any more masterful except perhaps shave a couple of unnecessary supporting characters. A+

One of the best opening credits ever, oui?

Yep.

Plus it sounded unbelievably good at the cinema.

yeah totally agree about the credits, Trent and Atticus/Karen O's version of Immigrant Song fits so well with it.

two DVD-scr's leaked yesterday, one supposedly being retail quality.

Confession time: I actually wasn't crazy about the title sequence. Looks like it's been lifted from a standard Bond film to me.
i read the books and watched the scandinavian movies - now i am hesitating to watch this new one, because i don't want to spoil my experience. dillemma !
saw the movie, many say its not as good as the book or the subtitled movie but i thought it was good having not seen either of the aforementioned. The woman although at first glance looks off is very hot! Amazing body

Finally saw this version last night. The original film is much more bleak than this one, I definitely felt more on edge watching that version and I think it's probably the better of the two adaptations in terms of artistic credability. That said, I did actually enjoy this version slightly more, primarily as I felt a lot more warmth towards the main characters this time - I did however feel that the story about the mystery of Harriot and the murders could have been more detailed, it felt a tiny bit rushed as though they sussed it pretty much the moment Lisbeth became involved.

I agree with Grimly that Lisbeth shouldn't have been reduced to playing a lovestruck girl at the end as it just didn't seem in character and it's not like it was particularly necessary for future storylines. All in all, pretty good and I'd be happy to seem them adapt the other books too.

Having read the book and watched the Swedish film since previously commenting in here, I can definitely say I prefer Fincher's film, both as a standalone piece of entertainment and as a more faithful adaptation of the book. I think the major difference for me was the quality of the actors. Mara Rooney seems like so much of a better fit for Lisbeth than Noomi Rapace, who's a bit too old and not vulnerable enough (but still very good). When I read the book the character I was imagining was Mara's Lisbeth. I also liked Daniel Craig more as Blomkvist (but again Michael Nyqvist couldn't be faulted). When it comes to the supporting cast though Fincher's film is so far ahead, there's no comparison for me. Stellan Skarsgard had so much more presence as Martin, same for Joely Richarson and Robin Wright.

The way Lisbeth is written in the American film is much truer to the book, and I wouldn't say it's any less bleak at all personally. The tension is higher if anything.

It's probably because we saw different films first as I guess it makes sense that the first one you watch would be the more tense as we wouldn't have known the outcome of the story. I recall the Swedish one being far more graphic when it came to the historical murders, but maybe that's just my imagination running overtime while watching it.

Does anyone know if there are plans to make the second film with the current case of the US version? I've never bothered with the other Swedish ones as they're supposed to get worse and I didn't want to ruin the impact of the first one.

Woah, disagree with that, I thought Rapace's performance is up their as one of the best female performances ever, she's incredible, but that said Rooney Mara was also very very very good and nailed the character, but I do think Rapace was better.

I agree that Fincher's is a more faithful adaption though, I do need to rewatched the Swedish one though as I've seen Fincher's a few times now since I saw the Swedish version so it's getting hard to compare.
