This Week on the News and online Preeya Kalida (aka Amira Shah. from Eastenders) has been dropped from her records label as her single shimmy did not get high in the charts, however this is not the case, the song got Number 1 in August for 2 weeks on BBC Asian Network official Charts, as it is your downloads, but the mainstrem charts got to Number 85, the record label may have dropped her carer of music and new planed album, but ask your self how can you get better than a Number 1.

By getting to #1 in a chart of ANY significance whatsoever. As the only mainstream Asian artist releasing, well, ANYTHING at the moment (probably toppling Jay Sean's 30 week stranglehold at number one with Down), #1 on the BBC Asian Network's charts really means nothing considering she sold somewhere in the region of fuck all.

I bet she regrets leaving Eastenders now!

What was the name of the song? I'll youtube it and if it's any good I'll buy a copy!
yes, but its better getting a number 1 in the Official chart- thats the one everyone cares about! you make 85- no one cares- even if it is number 1 on another chart, it doesnt make any difference, simples
It's a good song, I think it deserved atleast top 40
How many copies did she sell to get number 1 in the asian charts? If it isnt substantial, then i can understand the reason for her to be dropped.
Some people on here are being rather cruel. It is a shame that she was not given a chance to develop.Sometimes it takes more than one single for your career to take off.Shimmy though was not the strongest single and the record company should take the blame for that.
I completely agree. Unfortunately the way the record companies work are by the success of chart positions or sales. She should be given a chance to develop her skills in being an artist. Maybe she needs to re-invent her sound that will appeal to a wider audience beyond the asian fanbase

If she had come out with a half decent song and they hadn't have dressed her terribly, i believe that she would have at least got a top20 hit considering she is quite known..
