Posted August 26, 201014 yr In your opinion which albums is better in terms of the quality of the songs, the lyrics and the quality of their voices. I know that it is weird creating this topic as both albums were released over 10 months ago. Since then both albums have done very well but I just wanted to find out who prefers which album. Personally, I prefer Overcome because Alex's voice is stronger and the songs and the lyrical on the album is much better than 3 Words.
August 26, 201014 yr I do not have Three Words and would not consider buying it but I do have Overcome.The only criticism of it is that it does cover alot of different styles of music and I really do prefer Alex doing pure pop.The ballads really stand out The Silence, Overcome and They Dont Know.My least fav song is You Broke my Heart which should never have been on the album(Dangerous, Music sounds Better, Before it Explodes should have been).Uptempo Bad Boys, All Night Long and Good Night Good Morning are great.
August 26, 201014 yr I've only heard the previews of 3 Words and wasn't impressed so I'll go with Overcome, which I've bought. Stand-outs of Overcome: 'The Silence', 'All Night Long' and 'Goodnight Good Morning'. Low points of Overcome: 'Bury Me (6 Feet Under)', 'Dumb', 'Gotta Go', 'Nothing But the Girl'. Stand-outs of 3 Words: 'Fight For This Love', 'Parachute', 'Stand Up'. Low points of 3 Words: Everything else imo (bar '3 Words' which has got good music but dire lyrics). All in all, both aren't ground-breaking. I expected more from both. Cheryl's album seemed so monotonous (and that's not just her singing) but had some great songs lyrically (FFTL, Parachute) and musically (SU - should have been a single). Alex's is better imo but lacked depth and maturity. It's too "poppy" and lacks an edge. When she gets it right (ANL, TS), she's on fire but with songs like 'Dumb' etc, you just want to castrate Simon Cowell/RedOne (but you might want to do that anyway).
August 26, 201014 yr How Dare You Dumb is one of the best pop tunes on Overcome, have your ears cleaned out-It is Alex's protest feminist song. :P After The Silence it it RedOne's best contribution to Overcome.I agree Gotta Go and Bury Me should also have been dropped.

'Dumb' is $h!t! :lol: The chorus basically consists of "dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb" - RedOne is a lyrical genius! The verses are ok but it seems to cheesy, cliche and generic altogether. And it's not really a feminist song. It's about Alex preferring intelligent guys over stupid ones. 'Broken Heels' is Alex's feminist anthem. ^_^ If you're a 'Dumb' lover (haha you know what I mean), you'll be annoyed that it was actually expected to be her second single from the album according to The Sun in August last year. :P
August 26, 201014 yr Author i love all the songs on Overcome. You broke my heart and bury me (6 feet under) are my least favourite tracks on the album.
August 26, 201014 yr Author it's really funny how overcome is the better album, yet 3 words has sold more speaking of album sales does anyone know how much both albums have sold so far. i know that overcome is on double-platinum status but i think once the re-release is out it can stretch to 3x platinum.
August 26, 201014 yr Definitely 'Overcome'. Cheryl's album is quite weak IMO, some good songs are in here but nothing brilliant. Alexandra's album is what you can call 'generic' as it's as mainstream as you can get but it's full of catchy and strong songs so I don't mind it. 'Overcome' is one of most listened albums by me in the past year besides. :P
August 26, 201014 yr Overcome without a doubt, not just because Alex can actually sing, but because it has some fantastic songs. 3 Words does too and is probably more consistent as an album (albeit not actually that good), but what Overcome lacks for in consitency it certainly makes up for in it's high points. Overcome, The Silence, All Night Long, Dumb and Bad Boys are all very good.
August 27, 201014 yr Overcome for sure! 3 Words is good enough but the only songs I'd say are great are FFTL, Parachute and SU, the rest are OK or meh imo. Overcome is one of those albums I struggle to pick a favourite because there's so many I LOVE, which is a good thing. Edited August 27, 201014 yr by Liam.

August 29, 201014 yr I'm going to go with "3 Words" for the fact it has "3 Words" on it... :lol: But seriously, the sort of music both make really shouldn't be taken too seriously, and I don't think Cheryl does. So it's great fun :)
