I'm gonna go with 'Overcome', Alexandra's a better singer and the quality of music in the album is much better than '3 Words' IMO.

The only thing I liked in '3 Words' was the three singles, whereas in 'Overcome' some songs that werent singles did stand out to me ^_^

What a coincidence. I got both of these albums for Christmas 2009 and I was having the same internal conversation in my head at the time.

I have decided (and I decided very quickly after giving them both a listen) that Cheryl's is good but ultimately weak, because of her voice and her reliance on will.i.am really. The material is also a lot weaker than Alex's album, who obv also has that amazing voice.

So I go for OVERCOME.

Overcome! 3 Words only had a handful of good tracks :(

OVERCOME - All the way...............

Overcome rate:

10.0 Bad Boys - any major international popstar would kill for this song. Exciting, melodic, unforgettable.

09.0 Good Night Good Morning - gets way too much stick. Slightly 'generic' I suppose but pretty sexy with it.

10.0 The Silence - absolutely epic in the true sense of the word. I get chills when the music drops out.

10.0 All Night Long - my most played on the album - it literally doesn't get old. Sublime.

08.0 Bury Me - cheesy ass production and a terrible intro but once it gets going it's pretty catchy.

09.0 Broken Heels - it took me AGES to get into this one but it's infectious as sin and I love her fast vocal delivery - 'freshouttheboxfastlikeafox' etc

10.0 Dumb - BEYOND amazing. Love how the verses are all sultry and midtempo and suddenly the chorus becomes a huge club banger.

06.0 Overcome - very average indeed. Sounds like a Leona reject.

09.0 Gotta Go - I dismissed this as another generic Leona-lite ballad at first but I've come to love it these past few weeks. Very rousing.

02.0 You Broke My Heart - astonishingly terrible. Alexandra is above this Pixie shit.

08.0 Nothing But The Girl - a shrinker rather than a grower but funky enough, if exceptionally generic Stargate.

08.5 They Don't Know - lovely and restrained.

08.5 It's Over - nice and bouncy.

8.30/10 - very strong debut indeed. Blows Spirit out of the water. Now for 3 Words:

08.0 3 Words - missing something but a nice vibe song nonetheless.

09.0 Parachute - a very epic, battlefield/march sort of feel which makes up for the repetetive chorus.

08.0 Heaven - my heaven's WITCHOO - what's that about? You're white Cherly! Very saccharine but ultimately very likeable too.

10.0 Fight For This Love - absolute anthem regardless of the vocals. It really is a modern day classic.

09.5 Rain On Me - missed oppurtunity for a single. Fabulously moody.

05.0 Make Me Cry - like a knife to my ears.

08.0 Happy Hour - should be terrible on paper (THOSE LYRICS OMG) but it's so bad it's actually good.

09.5 Stand Up - incredibly catchy and a surefire top 5 had it got the single treatment.

04.0 Don't Talk About This Love - i do not know what she was thinking recording this stone bore.

09.5 Boy Like You - so atmospheric. Perfect album closer. Great use of the sample too.

8.05/10 - I have to say though overall it isn't as strong as that average score suggests but it does win points for cohesiveness - aside from that turd of a ballad the album has a very consistent sound, moreso than Overcome. Sadly though the highlights aren't quite as high and of course Cherly's voice is so weak it's impossible to ignore. So Overcome wins, but that's not to say 3 Words is a bad attempt.

Bandwagon jumping FTW :cheer:

'Overcome':

10.0 'Bad Boys'

10.0 'Good Night, Good Morning'

10.0 'The Silence'

10.0 'All Night Long' (My absolute favourite)

======

Strongest opening to an album since Kelly Clarkson's 'Breakaway', imo

======

07.0 'Bury Me'

08.5 'Broken Heels' (Like Jark, took AGES to grow on me)

09.0 'Dumb'

07.5 'Overcome'

07.5 'Gotta Go'

07.0 'You Broke My Heart'

05.5 'Nothing But The Girl'

08.5 'They Don't Know'

8.37/10

------------

'3 Words':

08.0 '3 Words'

06.0 'Parachute'

10.0 'Heaven'

10.0 'Fight For This Love'

08.0 'Rain On Me'

03.5 'Make Me Cry'

04.0 'Happy Hour'

10.0 'Stand Up'

10.0 'Don't Talk About This Love'

07.5 'Boy Like You'

7.70/10

'Overcome' blows '3 Words' away. However, '3 Words' gels better together (even though some of the songs are crap), whereas Alexandra's album is a bit all over the place in regards to production and stuff...
