People keep bugging at the 'fact' that Christina copied GaGa, but the question is that did GaGa copy the 90s hit group Steps.

Take a look at this Steps video

Also when Britney Spears performs I'm A Slave 4 U live in most concerts she seems to have a bit of a 'crazy' wardrobe, along with her dancers

I'm not doing this to start on GaGa fans, i'm just doing this for the raised question on the Steps video. As for Ms Spears, something I just picked up on.

:)

 Steps?! Surely you must be joking right?

No i'm not joking, as artist tend to get ideas all over the place, it doesn't even need to be an idea from Madonna or Michael Jackson, the art could be from just looking at the sky or a walk to the park.

How preposterous!

That's like saying musically she copied Ace Of Ba... Oh, wait.

That being said, I don't think she did copy Steps. But it's not completely out of the question?

Yes it is! She probably hasn't even HEARD of them, why would she copy a band that has absolutely no relevance to music at all anymore?!

She's cited her inspirations NUMEROUS times and I do believe STEPS never showed up. David Bowie, Janet Jackson, Madonna & Britney however did.

Don't tell anybody but I heard that she also 'took inspiration' from Mutya Buena, JC Chasez and Darius Danesh. But sssh!

Ha-ha-ha, but to be honest, I'd love some SuGaGa inspiration, it would be something absolutely genius. [/mutyakeishaheidiloon]

YES. Yes she did. Steps are one of the most influential bands in the history of music. Lady GaGa just needed to immitate them. :)

It's hard to be a musician these days..You can't do anything without copying somebody.

Manic Street Preachers' new song sounds like Stomp by Steps but does it matter? No, it's just great.

Most songwriters have been writing the same song for years.

But when Lady Gaga/Britney/Christina does something someone has done before it's the end of the world?

Please.

Only in the sense that, for example, Muse borrowed ideas off Queen, but actually do it a hell of a lot better and with more credibility.....

Very true actually, spot on... I've learned to stop worrying so much about that and judge it by whether it's actually done well and with respect to the influences in question...

I've already used the example of Muse and Queen, but also..

Interpol - Joy Division/Echo and the Bunnymen/Talking Heads

Editors - Teardrop Explodes/New Order/Bunnymen/Wire

A Place to Bury Strangers - My Bloody Valentine/Jesus and Mary Chain/Sonic Youth

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Velvet Underground/Iggy and The Stooges/MC5/New York Dolls

What all these bands have in common is that they can utilise their influences in interesting and different ways, putting their own ideas in there too to ensure that it's not just a literal copy, there's a fine line between being influenced and just being derivitive...

What a hilarious read. Steps... influential

Well, yeah, true, considering they just literally copied just about every move THEY made off of Abba, and no, not in particularly creative or interesting "Muse-doing-Queen and 70s Rock" way either.... A really boring, derivitive, naff way which was absolutely cringe-worthy.....

I never said she took inspiration from them, I said did she steel the look from them and made it bigger, seeing that she is an American artist.

Really? I'd rather much listen to A Night at the Opera than Absolution. At least Queen KNEW they created were creating camp, bombastic music..

I think she has taken inspiration from Britney in some very SMALL aspects.

But Britney has done the same thing with many other artists. Janet/Madonna/Michael. So I see it more as a compliment then anything.
