September 16, 201014 yr Interestingly Sky News said his Vatican bodyguards aren't happy as they're not allowed to carry loaded guns in this country. Only his Special Branch bodyguards will be armed. I'm sure the Secret Service are armed when the US President visits. No-one stops them carrying guns. Difference being the US president is a head of state, the pope is not a head of state
September 16, 201014 yr The Sky News reporter travelling in on The Pope's plane said he told them he was "shocked and saddened" by the abuse allegations so the man obviously does care. If he really cared he'd make sure that all the information on sexual abuse held by the Vatican was passed on to the relevant authorities so that the abusive priests could be prosecuted.
September 16, 201014 yr "The total cost of the Pope's stay to the taxpayer will be between £10m and £12m, with the bill for policing estimated at an additional £1.5m." outrageous, the taxpayers of Rome dont pay for our visits. We pay that amount whenever the head of state of any other country like Italy or France comes, so I don't see why the Pope should be any different.
September 16, 201014 yr We pay that amount whenever the head of state of any other country like Italy or France comes, so I don't see why the Pope should be any different. He isn't a head of state, he is a religious leader Would the taxpayer foot the bill for the Dalai Lama to come here and preach ? doubt it
September 16, 201014 yr He isn't a head of state, he is a religious leader Would the taxpayer foot the bill for the Dalai Lama to come here and preach ? doubt it As the BBC keep saying, the visit is being treated as a State Visit though.
September 16, 201014 yr He isn't a head of state, he is a religious leader Well, technically he is the head of the Vatican City state. Would the taxpayer foot the bill for the Dalai Lama to come here and preach ? doubt it I'm pretty sure the answer would be yes. I'll admit the wall-to-wall coverage of the Pope's visit over the next few days will probably annoy me as I frankly don't care enough, but it's pretty illiberal to suggest Catholics shouldn't have the opportunity to see the head of their religion at a minimal cost (relatively) to the taxpayer.
September 16, 201014 yr The Sky News reporter travelling in on The Pope's plane said he told them he was "shocked and saddened" by the abuse allegations so the man obviously does care. Words cost nothing. Did you really think he was going to sit there in front of a news reporter and openly say "MEH"? Difference being the US president is a head of state, the pope is not a head of state Is the Pope not the head of state of the Vatican City?
September 16, 201014 yr I gather Cameron wasn't there to meet him, sent Clegg instead (I have no access to a tv atm) so hopefully Cameron has snubbed him and wants nothing to do with this reptile

Britain is a secular society, there should be no state funded religion and taxpayers money being spent to have the pope over to spread his bigotry goes against the very concept of a secular society. In terms of the Vatican I wasn't aware it is classed as a country, I stand corrected though
September 16, 201014 yr I havent really been following, but I think it was Clegg and not Cameron there. Good on Dave not having anything to do with this freakshow
September 16, 201014 yr Good on Dave not having anything to do with this freakshow Can't say i'm a fan of Dave but it's good to see that our Prime Minister is basically ignoring the pope's visit.
September 16, 201014 yr I gather Cameron wasn't there to meet him, sent Clegg instead (I have no access to a tv atm) so hopefully Cameron has snubbed him and wants nothing to do with this reptile Cameron hasn't snubbed him and will be seeing him tomorrow morning.
September 16, 201014 yr Can't say i'm a fan of Dave but it's good to see that our Prime Minister is basically ignoring the pope's visit. Isn't he on paternity leave?

In terms of the Vatican I wasn't aware it is classed as a country, I stand corrected though Sadly we aren't a secular society. Head of State is also the head of the Church of England and all that...
September 16, 201014 yr I nearly said that it's him who wants shooting but decided not to as I'm well thought of at the church and school still. Funny how your views change so much in the space of a couple of pages. I don't think you've ever been so blatant about being a troll...
September 16, 201014 yr Author Well from what I've seen of him so far he looks like a very nice man. I hope he enjoys his visit to the UK. Yeah, and Hitler was kind to animals, the Krays loved their dear old mum, etc..... He's a scum-bag, and frankly about as welcome in a secular country like UK as Osama Bin Laden would be at a Bar Mitzvah.... Oh, but according to some Cardinal wotisface, we're a third world country apparently..... -_-
September 16, 201014 yr Author So, "ze Eagle has landed" in Edinburgh this morning.... I was really, really hoping that the Popemobile would take a wrong turn and end up in the wrong side of Leith, you know where the psychos and junkies live....LOL... Hey, it was good enough for Jesus to hang out with prostitutes, the diseased, sick, lame, demented, etc, so what the fukk makes Pope Benedict think he's any better....? Get the bugger to a well dodgy Council Estate in Edinburgh and have him preach the gospel there then... Be a slightly tougher audience than the fawning faithful on Princes Street......
September 16, 201014 yr Great sig ^_^ The sig makes should also include racism, attitudes to women, AIDS, theft of gold onto the list
