September 2, 201014 yr Goldfrapp had a big flop this year unfortunately with their new album and singles.
September 2, 201014 yr I have to disagree with Six for once - I think Adam did flop. Neither FYE or WWFM have really taken off. The former got decent radio play I think (although didn't get R1 backing) but he maybe didn't get a fair crack of the whip - although I genuinely think his style of music just isn't "in" right now and that's what caused the problem. Had he released in the early 00's I think his style would have been more in-keeping with the genres that charted well back then.

Had he released in the early 00's I think his style would have been more in-keeping with the genres that charted well back then. If you look at it on paper (a #37[?] single selling 30k[?] in total) then yes it was a flop but I don't think he got a fair chance. On the other hand, all those "indie girls" (Daisy etc) had R1 support, a lot of hype and publicity yet flopped. Also, I disagree with his music not being relevant. It's electro-pop/rock - GaGa (2009-2010), Pink (2002-2008), Katy Perry (2008), Kelly Clarkson (2005/2009) etc. Maybe because he's a guy doing that genre, he didn't get much support. I see FYE (and WWFM come to think of it) as a smash-that-never-was. Sort of like 'I Do Not Hook Up' and 'The Boy Who Murdered Love'. There's something about those three songs which make them seem like obvious hits but just never materialised into them. FYE had little support, little hype and a ridiculous release strategy (the label should have made the singles "album only" until the release date). Did IDNHU have R1 support? That should have been a hit - especially after a #1 single. The same can easily be said for TBWML. Maybe it's because IDNHU and TBWML were similar to MLWSWY and 'Once' respectively. September 2, 201014 yr Did IDNHU have R1 support? Yes it did. 'Already Gone' didn't as a result of 'Hook Up's floppage. 'Whataya Want From Me' REALLY should've been a smash, that was a major balls up for the UK public.
September 2, 201014 yr most criminal flopping is probably Goldfrapp  Christinas the obvious one, along with Girls Can't Catch not a flop by any means - but Diana Vickers has underperformed since starting, the number 1 was a bit of a flash in the pan as was her album and the next single vastly underperformed (this is coming from a fan by the way)- although hopefully her next single should change all this :) Jedward have also underperformed , also Scissor Sisters havent had an amazing year either :(

I am surprised no one has mentioned Kate Nash, she was here today gone tomorrow altough Radio 1 kept playlisting her she has had a megaflop comeback.
February 13, 201114 yr I don't see how Diana Vickers has underperformed or flopped. Shes had a number one single and number one album, along with 2 other top 40 hits, and has sold Half a Million records with combined singles and album sales in just 8 months, and don't forget this is from an x factor finalist who finished 4th. Also, shes had rave reviews in the west end and has also done several charity events. If Diana does flop after album 2, she always has her acting career to fall back on, plus her modelling career, so I think we're stuck with her for a while.

I couldn't work out what this post was about, until I saw the date of the last previous post... :P
February 13, 201114 yr Chris Brown & Kanye West imma let you finish..... but kanye had the best album of the year critically  duffy and joe mcelderry have flopped big time, i dont think joe even broke the 100k barrier with his lead single :/
February 13, 201114 yr Shakira! Not had a hit since She Wolf. Even 'Did It Again' flopped after an X-Factor performance (#21). Not to mention the official World Cup single (Waka Waka, #26), and a calibration with Dizzee Rascal (Loca, Didn't even chart!).
February 13, 201114 yr Duffy has flopped so hard I bet her and her record company are still in shock...
February 13, 201114 yr That should have been Thank goodness Jedward underperformed.I really hope that the final nails are being put in their musical coffin and they have to remain an Ireland only act. You don't follow the Eurovision then?

February 13, 201114 yr That post was made in September. Sorry! I didn't take into account the fact that some people are sad enough to go reviving threads that died 6 months ago.... Edited February 13, 201114 yr by Shaky Fan

Not to mention the official World Cup single (Waka Waka, #26), and a calibration with Dizzee Rascal (Loca, Didn't even chart!). She's only really flopped in Britain, she's massive in Spain, right? And Waka Waka sold over 1Million, didn't it? It peaked at #10 in Ireland :)
February 13, 201114 yr Christina Aguilera is now in a position where her next single has to be a global mega-hit or she risks fading into obscurity. Bionic was a flop all around the world, her first foray into Film (Burlesque) hardly set the world alight, in America she's a joke for getting the national anthem wrong at the Superbowl. I'm a big fan of hers, but this next single has to be something really special, with a proper marketing campaign from her label.

I think Shakira is one of those rare artists who will maybe only have 1 hit in 10 singles. Her voice is like Marmite and you either love it or hate it. But once in a while she pulls out a massive hit (Whenever, Wherever, Hips Don't Lie) and the public like it. For most people she is the kind of artist where you only want the big hit singles on your iPod and can't bear to listen to full albums of her work.
