September 4, 201014 yr Yay for Ke$ha. Four top ten hits from one album. :o And yay for The Script. Hope TMWCBM climbs higher!
September 4, 201014 yr 'Take It Off' will be MASSIVE. Definitely a top 3 hit. It sounds even more epic on radio.
September 4, 201014 yr Overall, the Hot 100 is fantastic at the moment. Only thing that's missing is the lack of rock music but that's a problem everywhere.
September 4, 201014 yr I'd say a lack of dance is the bigger problem, but that has always existed in the US and it'll never change.
September 4, 201014 yr The biggest problem of US charts will always be the fact that it is VERY nationalistic. I mean, almost the whole chart is US or at least Canadian artists, sometimes British artists are lucky to scrape there too but other countries practically don't stand the chance.
September 5, 201014 yr I sort of agree about that nationalistic thing...But at the same time, it's impossible to see country music on charts here in Europe. So here we've got dance, US got country. The charts are more and more polarised everywhere though.. In Finland the album chart is probably 75% Finnish. Edited September 5, 201014 yr by SKOB
September 5, 201014 yr The UK (and Ireland) surely must be the only national chart that's not complete self-domination to some degree? Also, the US isn't as hostile to dance as the UK is to country... Edited September 5, 201014 yr by ~ braysephone ~
September 5, 201014 yr The UK (and Ireland) surely must be the only national chart that's not complete self-domination to some degree? Does it really count though? It's almost complete Anglophone domination - what about Australia? They're pretty much the same. France and Germany are hardly self-dominated either. They have a strong nationalistic presence, but foreign stuff can do well very easily. Ditto Scandinavian countries.
September 6, 201014 yr I was thinking the same..In a way UK is the worst since there are hardly any songs from outside the Anglophone world. US, IRL and UK only and sometimes Australia. Look at Stromae who is struggling with a song that's been a huge success everywhere except in the UK and US. And what are the chances of a German band to make it in the UK even if they sang in English? Zero imo. Tokio Hotel and Rammstein are huge all over the world (even in the US) not so in the UK. UK embraces Scandinavia though which is very weird. Look at how Robyn and A-Ha are doing there so in a way there goes my theory  Edited September 6, 201014 yr by SKOB
September 6, 201014 yr Yeah but they sing in english, certainly helps. A-Ha aren't having hits in the UK though
September 6, 201014 yr German acts can still make it in the UK I reckon, they just need as much exposure as the big UK/US bred hits get. Cascada spring to mind. The only reason Tokio Hotel and Rammstein wouldn't have big hits in the singles chart here is because their genre's aren't the 'in thing' right now. I bet some German originated pop songs could do well if A-listed by Radio 1 and heavily rotated on video channels, Lena could have done for one. Most of the Scandi hits here are dance music (Basshunter, Eric Prydz, Swedish House Mafia), or what I would call pop being marketed as dance (Robyn/Agnes). If Kent, Takida or Mando Diao tried to make it here, they'd have no chance :(
September 6, 201014 yr Yeah but they sing in english, certainly helps. A-Ha aren't having hits in the UK though I just saw their new single on airplay chart...won't probably do anything on singles chart
