It has been a phenomenal year for Shayne Ward and as we head into the summer, he prepares to release, 'Stand By Me', a timeless piano-led ballad with a rousing chorus, the third single from his platinum selling, No.1 debut album 'Shayne Ward'. Less than a year ago Shayne was an unsuspecting entrant in the UK's biggest music talent show, The X-Factor. He soon became the nation's favourite and went on to win the contest. Michelle had two singles, the second flopped -_- But I see what you mean ^_^

Yes, she flopped because she was bland. Like Shayne is :( If he did something different and fresh, it would be great, as he does have a great voice!

Well if he can survive past the first album, there's plenty of opportunity for a change of direction. He should do something Justin Timberlake-esque, it would be HUGE! :o

The new Justin Timberlake my arse  Never heard him doing anything as boring as this  (well maybe This I Promise You...)

I didn't say that, I said he should do something Justin-esque i.e ditch the suits and sing in a higher key, preferably NOT a Westlife reject -_-

I wasn't talking about your post ;) I was talking about what basically he was trying to be on X Factor. ;)

Oh I see ^_^ But still, it helps clarify what I meant in the first place

R Kelly's "Turn Back the Hands of Time" anybody?! What a shoddy rip-off. Louis turning him into a one-man Westlife is destroying him.

Shayne in trouble?

Knives are out for "X Factor" winner Shayne Ward after his latest single, "Stand By Me", limped into the charts at number 14.

According to reports in London's Evening Standard, some music industry insiders think that the singer is already past his sell-by date.

A source told the newspaper that record company bosses expected the single to go straight into the top three.

They added: "Given that reality TV winners stand or fall by their chart success, this is worrying for Shayne.

"It is a relatively quiet week for new releases and the top 10 is full of artists like Sandi Thom who have been there for ages. He should have gone into the top five at the very least.

"When you first come off the back of a reality show like "X Factor" you can't go wrong. No matter how good or bad your first single is, it will get to number one.

"But a few months on the momentum is gone and it all comes down to how good your song is.

"I think Shayne might have come down to earth with a bump."

The former shoe shop assistant's first single, "That's My Goal", shot straight to number one, selling 742,180 copies in four days.

"Stand By Me" sold 11,098 copies in the whole of last week.

However, in an interview yesterday (July 16) with ITV, Ward remained upbeat, claiming he had the full support of pop svengalis Louis Walsh and Simon Cowell.

He said: "Who knows what may actually happen in the future, but I'm doing great at the moment. I'm starting international now."

"I'm going to Australia, South Africa, the whole of Asia and I'm going to be performing.

"So at the moment, things are on their way up, so hopefully it lasts."

I'm starting international now."

 oh dear...next thing you know is.. we'll be hearing about him be big in Asia..

I got a lot of stick on CC when I said that within 2 years Ward will be singing on cruise ships and at Butlins but I think I need to revise that prediction to even sooner ;)
all that TV exposure and support from the people that watched x-factor is dwindling away ,no wonder he has to go elsewhere like asia to make louis and simon money

 oh dear...next thing you know is.. we'll be hearing about him be big in Asia..

That's a bit snobbish isn't it? What do you have against the Asians? It's better than flopping across Asia surely? It's a substantial market and the biggest artists in the world are 'big in Asia' too.

Do you say that just because Gareth made it big in Asia and Will didn't?

Who knows if Shayne will make it in Asia or Austalia or any of these other countries he's due to promote in? It will be interesting to see how he fares in markets where the record buying population didn't see him on tv each week.

We do keep being told that Gareth made it big in Asia a few years back, exactly how big I wonder. Obviously not big enough to keep his deal with SBMG intact and without a UK or US deal, it doesn't really mean a hill of beans does it?

I'm sure Shayne would much prefer to secure his position in the UK first before branching further afield.

This is evil and I had to reply quickly to stop myself getting the kitchen knife and doing myself in :arrr:
