Posted September 5, 201014 yr HURTS, as we all know, are very much on the rise with the revival on 80's-styled synth-pop but, claiming they're more influenced by an early-90's italian genre called "Disco lento" (literally translating to "slow disco"), it's clear there's more than meets the eye (and a lot actually does meet the eye, for they consider their image as vital as their music). Anyhoo, we've all heard the Pet Shop Boys/Soft Cell-esque 'Better Than Love', and the darker, haunting 'Wonderful Life', plus of course the free non-album track 'Happiness', so what do we think the album will be like? Only a few days before it's released in the UK and with pre-sales figures looking promising, there's a chance they'll go Top 5 with their début effort. If you scour YouTube you may even find the beautifully poignant 'Blood, Tears & Gold'. Of course, the album did leak, but all ways of finding it have been plugged now, but not before I got my hands on it :D and SOZ you can't have it. Tracklisting: 01. 'Silver Lining'02. 'Wonderful Life'03. 'Blood, Tears & Gold'04. 'Sunday'05. 'Stay' (you can find a live version in the MTV sessions of YouTube)06. 'Illuminated' (live version also available on YouTube)07. 'Evelyn' (the DRUMS!)08. 'Better Than Love'09. 'Devotion' (duet with Kylie Mingoue)10. 'Unspoken'11. 'The Water' (includes hidden track 'Verona') Discuss what you like, what you don't like, about the Mancunian duo here. And if you find a leak, keep it to yourself.
September 5, 201014 yr [2] [3] Obvs. But I must admit it took me a while to realise it's brilliance. At first I was a little disappointed how dark it was, I expected more light and shade.
September 5, 201014 yr i absolutely love this album and i just love the video for wonderful life it's one of my all time favourites especially how they dedicated it to the girl in the original one. also them being from manchester will always help.
September 5, 201014 yr Author I must admit I was also taken aback at how consistantly dark the theme was, there's really only two lighter song ('Better Than Love' and 'Sunday') and they're strategically placed throughout the album to counter the darker, disco lento tracks. Currently I'm loving the whole thing but the tracks that, if rated by me, would be amazing enough to get a 6th star are: 'Sunday', 'Better Than Love', and 'Evelyn'.
September 7, 201014 yr Amazing album, definitely in my top 5 of the year too  . I like the darkness of it all tbh, we've had our fair share of happy clappy anthemic synthpop in the past year or two, so it's great to have something a bit more melancholic and sombre.
September 7, 201014 yr I love the darkness of it too Ghosty, it's captured the spirit of 80s synth music far better than any other synth release I've heard in the past few years.
September 7, 201014 yr Several writing credits for a certain David Sneddon. :o As if i need another reason to avoid this like the plague. :drama:
September 8, 201014 yr I must admit I was also taken aback at how consistantly dark the theme was, there's really only two lighter song ('Better Than Love' and 'Sunday') and they're strategically placed throughout the album to counter the darker, disco lento tracks. Currently I'm loving the whole thing but the tracks that, if rated by me, would be amazing enough to get a 6th star are: 'Sunday', 'Better Than Love', and 'Evelyn'. Agreed that Sunday is AMAZING  Reminds me of Princess Stephanie somehow  aUTbmmTv2j4 By the way Ethan, that Cris Life track is AMAZING. It sounds nothing like Hurts though. Italo Disco is an amazing genre, I don't blame them for wearing such an influence on their sleeve.
September 9, 201014 yr I love the album. Stay is currently my favourite track, it's absolutely beautiful
