I mean this is like what would have happened had TIMOTHY DALTON continued on in the early 90's as was originally planned. An utterly HORRIFIC thought.

I'm glad Timothy Dalton only did 2 bond movies in the end, worst bond ever, originally Pierce Brosnan was going to take over from Roger Moore, but he was still tied up in a contract in Remington Steele.

Indeed, and Roger was the original pick to take over from Sean but he was under contract with The Saint at the time.

I'd rank them thus:

01 Pierce

02 Roger

03 Sean

04 George

05 Daniel

06 Timothy

01 Daniel (sorry but he is the best by a distance)

02 Pierce (but let down by mediocre films, GoldenEye aside)

03 George (was genuinely terrific, just a shame he only did one film)

04 Roger (campest Bond ever)

05 Sean (way too gruff for my liking at times)

05 Timothy (not even awful, just terribly bland)

I quite liked Dalton - I would have rather had him than Moore for Roger's last couple as he was far too old by that point. It was clear with Connery coming back having quit rather than being fired that they didn't think much of Lazenby and didn't want him much in the first place.

I grew up with Brosnan and think he was excellent, Die Another Day is of course completely ridiculous but good fun and his other three were terrific. Craig makes an excellent Bond although we could have done without Quantum of Solace. I remember nothing of the storyline except that it was attempting to tie together the loose ends of Casino Royale and for any Bond film to be forgettable is a cardinal sin.

My favourites have to be

1 Sean Connery

2 Daniel Craig

3 Pierce Brosnan

4 George Lazenby (Considering he only did 1 Bond movie OHMSS remains a Classic Bond film for me)

5 Roger Moore (His first 2 movies were excellent, Moonraker came along, they tried to micmick Star Wars in a way as they wanted an adventure set in space, For Your Eyes Only was OK after that it all went pear shaped).

6 Timothy Dalton

It was clear with Connery coming back having quit rather than being fired that they didn't think much of Lazenby and didn't want him much in the first place.

That's not how it went down at all! Lazenby took some bad advice from a friend who told him he'd be typecast if he stuck around so he announced before OHMSS was even released that he wouldn't be doing another. His performance had mixed reviews and he tends to be the most controversial Bond even today but for my money he was very good.

Ah, my mistake. I have an urge to watch GoldenEye again now, so so good.

Early reviews are very strong indeed! The weakest I've come across is a 3/5 from the Guardian. Most are giving it a 4 and praising the acting, humour, story and particularly Bardem's character and Mendes' direction.

Awesome, best bond ever :o great opening sequence, lots of action. I loved it the story is so easy to follow, the ending was spectacular, Judi Dench was brilliant as M and the new Q just fits in. The closing sequence reminds me of the original movies, like back to basics, its quite fitting, without giving too much away.
Absolutely brilliant. The story isn't as strong as Casino Royal, but everything else is better. Such a return to form. Best film of the year no doubt.

I knew M was going to die. Massive tribute to her as the film was about her. I like the new M though, he's spectacularly English just like the old M!

You'd have thought it

he who shall not be named turns out to be M

. To be honest it was kind of obvious.

I wonder why they decided to re-introduce Q, Moneypenny? I thought they just got rid of all of that with the Daniel Craig movies

Well Q and Moneypenny came in for a lot of criticism because of how cheesy they were. I didn't like the chemistry between Moneypenny and Bond, but the new Q was modern and with the times. They're an essential part of the Bond franchise.

The Sun ran a poll on who the next Bond could be, Edris Elba came out on top, followed by Tom Hardy and Michael Fassbender, personally Benedict Cumberbatch could fill that role nicely.

Just came back from this and OH MY GOD. The best film I've seen for absolutely ages!

Everything was perfect, such a step up from the last couple of films. I've definitely got Bond fever...need to watch them all all over again now.

Think it will be Daniel Craig for another 3/4 films yet. Michael Fassbender not a bad shout for a future Bond though.

I went to see this today as I've seen all the Daniel Craig films at the cinema and it didn't disappoint. It was exactly what I wanted and expected, and if you're pleasing a casual Bond fan like me as much as that then you must be doing it right imo. I loved the last few minutes with

M's replacement being revealed and Moneypenny being reintroduced

.

Not a big fan of the Bond franchise, but I would seriously consider thinking about getting into them if Tom Hardy or Michael Fassbender were to ever play the part of Bond!

Tom Hardy would be so wrong as Bond. I'm not sure about Fassbender either. I adore Idris Elba muchly but I don't know how people would respond to a black Bond. Whoever it is will probably be a pretty off the wall choice. I doubt Craig will go past five films though.

Anyway this took £20m at the UK box office making it the second biggest opening weekend ever (behind the final Harry Potter film). Not bad! :D

I don't think it's a big deal for a black actor to play bond.

Look at the actress who is playing Moneypenny.
