September 17, 201014 yr Madonna and Mariah are not from the UK though, Kylie is Australian but she does hold a British passport so she can technically be classified as a Brit I guess. oh $h!t, I didnt notice :P scratch those then, Kate Bush stays and atm? well I have already said the ones I like, I think SOME of the biggest atm based on current charts would probably be Alexandra Burke, Eliza Doolittle, Florence and The Machine and Ellie Goulding on sales and impact of the last few years, Cheryl Cole, Leona Lewis and Pixie Lott are probably up there as well Edited September 17, 201014 yr by chart wizard
September 17, 201014 yr i would say Cheryl Cole and Alexandra Burke!! :) Edited September 17, 201014 yr by X gunners X
September 17, 201014 yr I fail to see how Alexandra Burke is the biggest..she has only been going 18 months or thereabouts.
September 17, 201014 yr Cheryl's over 2 million with her singles and albums. I doubt Florence is, so CHERYL is victor. ^_^ Actually Florence is over 2 million quite easily. Few of her singles were high peakers, but they've been strong sellers over a long period. The album's almost on 1.2 million. For singles, You've Got The Love has sold over 450,000, You've Got The Dirtee Love over 300,000, Dog Days Are Over another 100,000, and Rabbit Heart almost 200,000. That's ignoring any sales for Cosmic Love, Kiss With A Fist or Drumming Song. However I'd agree Cherly is probably bigger in the sense that she's made more impact on the entertainment world in general. Sadly she's the closest we have to a Madonna figure right now :( Right now I'd say we're looking at... 01. Cherly 02. Florence --------------- 03. Leona (her ahead of Alexandra on the basis that there's still a lot of love going on for her Spirit era) 04. Alexandra 05. Pixie
September 17, 201014 yr At this exact moment in time it is quite clearly Florence. Cheryl is a bigger name, but that doesn't constitute that she's a bigger artist. Alexandra Burke...ha, lol, lmfao etc. - anyone that says it's her is quite clearly mad. The other two are way bigger (even Leona too).
September 18, 201014 yr Don't forget that Florence as well as doing well in Europe (like Cheryl) scored the hit in the USA after the VMA effect.
September 18, 201014 yr I'd probably say Chezza Cole tbh. Florence would be up there too, she's doing pretty well worldwide atm
September 18, 201014 yr At the moment, if you look at their last eras and the singles and album sales it's generated, Alexandra is bigger than Leona. CURRENTLY. As a result, I'd say the top 5 would be (if we're including Florence) 01. Florence 02. Cheryl 03. Alexandra 04. Pixie 05. Leona Leona could easily turn it around though, and Alexandra and Pixie are night on inseperable.

It only peaked at 23 but its chart run was immense {23}-24-33-36-44-53-44-48-55-56-47-37-34-24-25-27-24-27-42-55-56-56-64-75-67-61-74-75-74 (29 weeks)
September 18, 201014 yr I think I would class whose doing the best not just on sales and popularity but on individuality, live performances and long term potential. At this moment in time although not a fan it would have to be Florence-I was just watching E-news and she got a very prominent clip and was getting alot of positive feedback after the VMA's plus her performance was easily one of the best of the night. She is also a strong live performer. Next I would put Paloma Faith and VV Brown who may not have amazing sales or be hugely popular but as live performers and their quirky individuality they really stand out. I am not as impressed with the younger UK female singers because live it is rare for any of them to actually deliver a good vocal performance.Leona has an amazing voice but Syco are sending her carer off the rails she needs a single out before the year is over.I like Pixie's personality and some of her songs but vocally she needs to improve her voice, of course I am a big Alexandra fan and she has also had single success in Europe but she needs a big solo ballad next, big fan of Eliza Doolittle who has alot of potential and will hopefully start releasing internationally.I would never put Cheryl on the list as she is more celebrity than singer and her live vocals for someone in her position are woeful and weak.
September 18, 201014 yr yeah i agree with cheryl being the biggest right now. though i'd say kate bush of all time. well in my eyes anyway..
September 18, 201014 yr Why you keep mentioning Cheryl if you don't like her? I suppose this forum is what IN YOUR OPINION is the biggest UK female artist... Yep Cheryl has sold a lot but there are a few more artist who has done this. Pick one that you like! For me is Amy Winehouse. Unique voice, brilliant songs and Back to Black sold almost 3 million in UK. Also, Lily Allen is a great artist with good album sales! Edited September 18, 201014 yr by edward88

Because it's a forum, it's up to everyone whether he wants to be objective or subjective. Judging on my own taste it will be Sophie Ellis-Bextor. But I don't care because she's clearly not the biggest now, more like the opposite. :(
September 18, 201014 yr please do not mention florence and the machine as they are a band Umm, no, they're not a band. The Machine are a backing group - many singers have people backing them whether they be singers or playing instruments or whatever. Besides, if the BRIT Awards and other award shows say Florence is a solo female artist then who are we to disagree. Anyway, I would say the clear top three are, as others have said, Cheryl, Leona and Florence. Alexandra is close but not quite in their league yet, but probably just behind at fourth. Then Lily Allen, Duffy, Pixie Lott, Paloma Faith, Adele, Eliza Doolittle, Ellie, Marina, M.I.A. etc. fall behind that. Throw in Bat for Lashes as well, even if her sales aren't in that league, but she's had loads of acclaim and is popular. Also we definitely shouldn't forget Amy Winehouse, even if it's been a few years now. It depends what timeframe we're talking, I guess. Susan Boyle should probably be in there too... maybe fifth behind Alexandra. If we're talking all-time, then the list would probably include Kate Bush, Dusty Springfield, Shirley Bassey, Annie Lennox... I get the feeling I'm forgetting someone important here but I can't think of anyone else. :D Edited September 18, 201014 yr by superbossanova

I understand you have to consider sales, but there are so many other artists that sell well. Not asking to tell the biggest artist based on sales alone, but who do you think can sing and sell well! No offense:)
