Just 12 weeks to Christmas! The usual selection of charts based on average sales & positions for the week. All put together by the incredible team at DTR (a non profitting Radio Group). This will be the last one from me for a bit (Hurray, you cry!) because I've got to have a holiday in the sun before Winter. I shall hand over my account to Alan for next week.

It doesn't get any better, does it? I find it quite tearful. Whatever happened to TV in this Country? Even this load of $h!te on Channel 4, beats the Paul Grady Live show. Paul gets 3.69 to this Grand Designs! Yep, I could live quite easily without tv today. We don't have to pay for digital tv, but the BBC should certainly ditch the licence & be made to take adverts on both screen & radio...Radio One with ads, now wouldn't that be great...no time for inane chat! :o

The Flashback to October 1991: Charts compiled by MRIB

The Top TV back then

01 EASTENDERS 19.30

02 CORONATION STREET 18.70

03 RUTH RENDELL MYSTERIES 14.30...Series 5 of the drama. "A New Lease Of Death" Part One. A case is re-opened by Insp. Wexford of a man who apparently killed a woman with an axe

04 LONDON'S BURNING 14.10...Series 4 of Jack Rosenthal's drama

05 THE BILL 13.90..."Skint". It's PC Garfield's birthday & a party adds to his money problems

06 BLIND DATE 13.20...Cilla Black in series 7 of ITV's Saturday night dating show

07 CASUALTY 13.10...the 6th series of the Saturday BBC drama

08 THE KRYPTON FACTOR 12.60...Gordon Burns on Mondays at 7pm, in Britains Toughest Game. This was series 15

09 BIRDS OF A FEATHER 12.40...Series 3 of the sitcom. Tracey, Sharon, & Dorien have problems when Darryl's parents turn up

10 MINDER 12.20...George Cole in the 8th series of the comedy/drama. Terry has now left & Ray Daley (Arthur's nephew") is the new Minder for Arthur

11 STRIKE IT LUCKY 12.10...Michael Barrymore & the quiz that became "Strike It Rich" from 1996 onwards

12 WILT 11.10...the LWT adaption of Tom Sharpe's book with Griff Rhys Jones, Mel Smith, & Alison Steadman

13 NEVER THE TWAIN 10.90...the 11th series of the by now overplayed sitcom with Donald Sinden & Windsor Davies as feuding antique dealers. Pretty ghastly to start wth...& who could forget Derek Deadman as the nutcase "Ringo". Showing at 7pm on Wednesdays

14 BEADLE'S ABOUT 10.80...Jeremy Beadle & those people that wound up their mates & family in an OTT way

15 EMMERDALE 10.80

16 FRENCH FIELDS 10.80...a poor sequel to the sitcom "Fresh Fields" with the late Anton Rodgers & Julia McKensie

17 YOU BET 10.70...Matthew Kelly presents the game of stunts & stuff on Saturday nights

18 CRIMEWATCH 10.40

19 BULLSEYE 10.20...Jim Bowen in series 14 of the darts quiz

20 BREAD 10.20...the final series of the sitcom & those spongers of Liverpool

Also showing in 1991, was the first season of the ever dire "Noel's House Party" which had silch viewers until the 2nd season. I wonder why! Bruce Forsyth was on his 2nd series of the re-vamp Friday night showing "Generation Game". I'm never a fan of shows that come back years later, but perhaps I'd make an exception in Bruce's case. Although, Jim Davidson killed it later with his enormous ego & childish atempt at humour.

The Top Albums in Oct 1991: You couldn't get away from Bryan! Where were those Compilations? Well Now Dance 91, wasn't far from the top ten. With the top ten itself, full of rock.

08 NE CEREMONY - THE CULT

09 NE SCREAMADELICA - PRIMAL SCREAM

10 NE MR LUCKY - JOHN LEE HOOKER

The Top Singles in Oct 1991: We were now sick of Mr Adams, on his 12th week at the top...But it seems like only yesterday! The Scorpions were robbed of that number one spot & only Kiri Te Kanawa could stop Bryan. Although on the London Chart, the Scorpions did spend 2 weeks at the top. 1991 also gave the first Midweek chart to listen to via Capital FM. On a Wednesday it were, with someone called Neil Fox. Much better days for Independant Radio...before they decided to totally make up the charts! Although in 1991, Mariah Carey's "Emotions" did hop up to number 6 on Capital's Local top 40, while it barely scraped top 20 on the Network Chart (still introduced by David Kid Jensen at this point). I don't recall Tina Turner re-entrying the chart, but she did apparently. The rather splendid version of Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me by Oleta Adams, was so much better that George Michael fella's, while the PJB version of Bridge Over Troubled Water was just total garbage, already ruin by Linda Clifford some 12 years before.

Hang on for the top 75 lowdown, first though the ever decreasing physical singles:

Before we go on. Can anyone help with a good memory? The other day a bunch of us were discussing TV Sitcoms. We were try to rack our brains into which Sitcom had this plot: The people of the house can't afford a holiday, but want the rest of the street to think they are on holiday. So, they go out of the front door & double back round to the back door. They go back in the house & try to stay out of sight for a week, not switching on any lights or anything. Can anyone remember which Sitcom featured that Storyline? I've been trying all week & I can't get it. I thought it may have been "Sykes", but don't think it was.

It will be a dramatic battle in next week's chart. :w00t:

Did you forget to update the date or is it only Radioactive's download brought forward to next week?

4 of next week's 5 biggest new entries (all are likely to be top 10) make up the top 4 pre-orders, and the 5th is download only. :D

Don't forget the complete top 40 can be heard all over the Southern hemisphere of Silk FM across the net, on Sunday at 4pm avec Jason Scott, & don't forget those bubblers & new releases at 7 in the "Ones To Watch". And who needs Tony Blackburn for vintage hits, as he surprises everyone by returning to BBC National Radio, for the first time since 1984. Join Richard Todd for a nip back to the complete top 40 from October 1964, this Sunday at 2pm on Atlantic Oldies 2NG.

Eastenders beating corrie :cheer:
Pixie Lott Turn it up louder lower than Selena in pre-orders :(

Anyway, great that we'll have 2 drum n bass songs in the top 40 this week from Danny Byrd and DJ Fresh.

I hope atg least one of the two can be top 30 on Sunday but really GD being so high on its ninth week is incredible, and it's great Danny B has finally cracked the top 40 after SH missed out.

I don't recall Tina Turner re-entrying the chart, but she did apparently.

14 17 NUTBUSH CITY LIMITS - TINA TURNER

This was a dance remake of the track that got released. I remember seeing the video all the time on MTV Europe back then.

It's...different. :D

Not sure how old the one you're thinking of (prsumably 'very' given you suggest Sykes) but Beautiful People did it recently

Well done Kylie on the phyisical number 1, us kylie fans really love her phyisical releases.

Good to see eastenders beating corrie again this week.

That was what brought it up. Someone was talking about Beautiful People (cos it's set Reading), but I remember the story be used before. Certainly over the last 30 years, that why I don't think it was Sykes. The Sykes storyline (abeit holiday) concerns Eric & Hat going to the airport & missing the plane, then spending a week at Gatwick airport.

It's been nagging on me all week.

Hold on, I think I've finally got the answer. "To The Manor Born", suddenly sprung to me!

Actually I was thinking of "Bless This House" with Sid James  for some reason, its the type of thing Sid would do.
