Another enjoyable episode last night. I really liked the combination of the Kat/Ronnie/Shirley friendship, and also Pat sticking through for Janine. I really do hope the Ryan/Janine relationship can sort of get back on track though, I thought they worked briliantly as a couple.

Ryan is easily at his best with Janine. Without her he tends to be rather bland.
Nothing had better happen to Jean, She is my favourite character.
The scene where Kat found Jean in the bath was quite powerful, especially when it showed Jean's face in the bath. I guess that

this will lead to Jean's temporary exit? It looks like she'll go to a care home for people with illnesses and come back when she's better?

Yeah,

in tomorrow's episode, Jean decides she should be sectioned which I'm guessing is her temporary exit clause as you say.

It's episodes like tonight which make me so glad Jean

isn't leaving for good.

I can definitely see a place for her in the Moon household, as a kind of replacement Nana Moon figure, just aimlessly wandering around The Vic in a flutter burning Sausage Surprises.

On the contrary, whilst I've not seen tonight's yet I do know what happens and it's all tied in with Stacey still - surely that indicates to you that Jean works best when she's tied into another character's storyline? Her entire time in Walford to date was tied in with Stacey. She'll be an absolutely pointless character if all she ever does is wander around getting involved in small comedic storylines. Ideally she'd develop a really close bond with Kat and become a kind of surrogate mother for her or something along those lines.

I do actually agree with Jark, much as I love Jean I truly fail to see where she will fit in without Stacey and still be the great character she has developed into.
I don't really think that's the case at all - referring to Jark's point, OF COURSE Jean is still going to be about Stacey at the moment - her daughter fled the country after being exposed as a murderer only two days previously! I don't think that's any indication of how the character will develop long-term at all.
Yeah, but if you think about it Jean has gone from being a somewhat useless character to a great character because of how well she works with Stacey, I just worry how she's going to work without Stacey now as I don't really see her fitting in the fold anywhere near as well. I'll be happy to be proved wrong though.
I'm willing to be proved wrong too, but I don't rate Jean's chances at being considered one of the five best characters on the Square (third best according to the most recent countdown we did on here) a year down the line without Stacey.

Just caught tonight's and it was great - I'm really enjoying Kat and Ronnie's friendship and of course Jean made for a rather startling duff duff. It'll be interesting to see whether (or how long it takes) Pat forgives Janine.

Also, just to guage - what are we all thinking of the Carol and Connor on-off affair? I've seen a lot of hate and vitriol for it elsewhere but I for one think it's kind of sweet to watch unfolding. Pairing him up with Whitney was a mistake but now that he and Carol are back on it's got me interested again.

No, I'm still definitely not enjoying it. Carol is a WONDERFUL character, but there's a great big huge blurred line over whether she sees Connor as a lover or as some sort of surrogate son - which makes the whole thing rather creepy and FAR from sweet. I think it's also quite clear that the whole thing is doomed, and will end up with him intentionally or unintentionally screwing the whole Butcher/Jackson clan over. It ain't no love story.

Not that I want him with Whitney either - he simply provides her with yet ANOTHER excuse to become a huge BRAT.

They should just have Glenda seduce him and have done with it.

I think I'm going to wait for that episode to digest properly before I comment on it any more. Extremely powerful ending!

BTW guys don't forget Farewell Stacey Slater is on BBC Three at 8.00pm tomorrow.

Interesting article with regards to the

baby swap.

Facebook groups have reportedly been set-up in protest at EastEnders upcoming cot death plot.

The tragic storyline will see Ronnie Mitchell (Samantha Womack) suffer more heartbreak on New Year's Eve when she discovers that her newborn son James has died. However, in a shock twist she will be seen swapping the child with Kat Moon's (Jessie Wallace) son Tommy.

According to The Sun, furious mothers have blasted the idea as "hurtful" and "ridiculous".

"This 'twist' is ludicrous - and hurtful," Alisa Hichens, who lost her nine-month old daughter last New Year's Eve said. "People who watch it could look at mothers who have lost a child and think that they would snatch their baby. It's distressing."

On one Facebook group page, Julie Ann Harris wrote that the BBC soap will "undoubtedly upset parents and families who have suffered this loss".

It was recently confirmed that several small edits have been made to the episode, including the toning down of James's crying which attracts Ronnie's attention to the Queen Vic.

"Bosses are keen to assure viewers that they're not portraying Ronnie's behaviour as typical of bereaved mothers," an Albert Square insider told the paper. "Regular viewers know she's lost two children before this tragedy with James. She acts in a state of grief and shock."

I wouldn't say that was interesting. People need to either need to avoid it if they're so certain they'll be offended or at the very least keep an open mind until it's actually aired. I fully expect the OFCOM brigade to have a field day on Saturday.
