aye i think people are way overreacting to this storyline but i agree that it's probably for the best that it's being cut short because while i don't think it's an outrageous storyline and would never complain (or complain about anything on tv for that matter cos i have hands to turn over) but i do feel really uneasy watching it sometimes rather than just enjoying it. nice to see jessie being able to show off her acting skills though!

It's certainly making for some of the most gripping and powerful drama Eastenders have ever managed though...I'll be sad to see it end, not because I 'enjoy' the storyline as such, but purely because Jess Wallace and Samantha Womack are putting in some spectacular performances. A real art form at the moment.
EastEnders star Samantha Womack has allegedly been abused by a fan over the soap's cot death storyline.

The 38-year-old actress, who yesterday revealed her intention to leave the BBC One show when her contract runs out later this year, was said to be called a "murdering ****" as she was walking her son Benjamin, 9, and daughter Lily-Rose, 5, in London.

I think this sums up how thick people are...

Anyway, appparently the plot will now be ending as early as April!

That's harsh. And in front of her kids too! :( Some people need to come back to reality in all honesty!

I really don't get the Sam Womack love here. I find she has the same expression no matter what script/scenario she's given. I don't think she's bad ... she's just not as great as people are making her to be.

Jess Wallace on the other hand .... she has REALLY surprised me this time around. She is definitely better this time than in her first stint. Tonight ... for the first time ... I was actually near to tears with her performance at the end. EE has NEVER done that to me before.

I was hurting for Kat when Ronnie (rather vindictively) told her she couldn't hold 'James'.

Didn't you only start watching for the first time in years last year?!

That last scene was excellently done. Really, really sympathising with Kat at the moment. Sam is brilliant at acting out as if she's paranoid and stuff though. These two are fantastic together. Like, seriously good.

Well I'm obviously making the assumption that nothing special was done when the show went to $h!t for a couple of years, and I was semi-aware of what was occurring 2007 onwards.

I agree with pretty much all of these points. Sam Womack is good, but NOT the be all and end all people make out (I can think of at least five other EE actresses in the current cast who I would say are better), and I don't think there's much comparison to Jessie Wallace who IS indeed playing an absolute blinder.

That last scene was heartbreaking, and it also confirmed for me that even had Womack not quit, I'm not sure there would have been any real way back for the character of Ronnie after this.

Whitney spoiler -

she becomes a £50 a night prostitute in a story being written in conjunction with Children In Need.

Could potentially save her character!

Oh, didn't realise it was well known. :P

I don't particularly like the character at all but it's sad ending for him.

Laurie Brett is pregnant apparently with an April due date, presumably meaning Jane will be off screen for a few months from Feb/March or so.

But we've only just got her back together with Tanya again :(

I expect the obvious on-screen explanation will involve her finding out about Glenda.

To be honest I'd prefer if she found out her dad was ill and went to help her mum care for him. THAT WAY she can return with Lynda Baron in tow and we need not suffer another tedious Jane-and-Ian-have-split-AGAIN-but-will-inevitably-get-back-together-AGAIN storyline. Win win!

With regards to that Whitney spoiler I mentioned up the page, it's been rumoured for a while now that

Jody Latham from Shameless

is joining the cast and apparently

he'll be playing her pimp in the prostitution storyline.

The Sunday tabloids are trying to make out the cast are on the verge of walking out, blah blah blah, and that it's going to be as controversial as the baby swap, but I doubt it. It's not like EE haven't covered this territory before with Zoe anyway.

I wonder have eastenders any chance at the upcoming nta awards? Id love nothing more than see them win best serial drama now with all thats going at the moment, i cant see them winning best new comer as id be shocked if the guy from emmerdale doesnt get it, lacey stands a great chance of getting best dramatic performance from a soap although im sure danny miller is also in with a shout for that award aswell.

More details on the

Whitney storyline

from DS:

EastEnders bosses have officially confirmed that the soap is working alongside Comic Relief for a new storyline which tackles the issue of sexual exploitation.

Show regular Whitney Dean - played by Shona McGarty - will be at the centre of the plot, which begins within the next few weeks when her life starts to take a downward spiral.

With her stepmother Bianca Butcher (Patsy Palmer) away from the Square, Whitney begins to suffer and - feeling alone and vulnerable - she falls for the charms of an unscrupulous man who ends up exploiting her for his own financial gain.

The EastEnders team have worked closely with Comic Relief while devising the storyline. As part of the tie-in with the charity, the plot will culminate in a special ten-minute episode which is to air as part of Comic Relief's televised telethon on Friday, March 18.

Speaking of the story, a show spokesperson told DS: "EastEnders has been working alongside Comic Relief since last year, devising a storyline that raises awareness of sex exploitation. In the long tradition the show has of tackling social issues, this is a storyline that looks to be exploring a growing problem that faces many young women in the UK."

Gilly Green, Head of UK Grants at Comic Relief, added: "Comic Relief has been working on the issue of sexual exploitation for the last ten years, both in terms of funding projects that help those who have been subjected to this devastating experience and raising awareness of the issue.

"It is vital that we continue to alert young people to the dangers if we are to stop them being exploited and the opportunity to work with EastEnders will make a huge audience aware of this issue. We have been working with the EastEnders script writers and some of the young women from projects we support to ensure the story reflects the reality of young people caught up in sexual exploitation."

Kevin Cahill, Chief Executive of Comic Relief, said: "We have worked over many years with EastEnders in all kinds of ways. It's been a real pleasure this year to work together on a piece of serious drama, in the best traditions of public service, which will highlight an important issue and also, because it occurs on the night of Comic Relief, actually help raise crucial funds to help young women caught up in it."

Concluding the story within a Comic Relief mini episode seems a bit ODD but hopefully it'll be decent nonetheless.
