Yeah they really should have made more of Alan, although I imagine he will return for the funeral scenes. The spoilers said that

the divine BLOSSOM was also to appear alongside Alan, so there must be more to come.

Lyndsey Coulson is FINALLY getting a chance to shine and proving why she was brought back. I have to admit the actual death episode didn't really get to me that much until those final scenes with Carol pulling Billie's sock on, and then sitting there clutching the photo to her chest. Sometimes dialogue just ISN'T needed.

Patsy Palmer was also pretty good, particularly with the phone call. I'm also liking Nu Lauren, even if she is hard to reconcile with the old one.

I'm going to echo what everyone else in here has said. Dire character but that episode made me genuinely wish he hadn't died. Seeing his ENTIRE family out in force and following Carol around as she found out and tried to cope with it was emotional. I found it a bit LOL that Alan (a biggish character in the 90s?) was relegated to a few shots from behind and one line. I do hope we see much more of him and Blossom.
I think Alan will have at least one solid scene with Carol for the funeral scenes and they will reconconcile in some way.
<_< They didnt really give the Billie character enough time to grow on the soap. The episode itself was excellent. I can see Whitney going into melt-down now. OMG that girl who plays Lauren is a terrible actress. The old Lauren wasnt a great actress but tears strips of her.
Please tell me you're joking? The new Lauren is ten million times better than the old one. I'm really loving her at the moment!
New Lauren really is sensational, I dont think she even LOOKS that different to the old one... it's a somewhat beleivable transformation over a summer :P

The scene with Carol and Jim was more emotional than all of Monday's ep imo.

:(

Poor Jim, losing two grandson's in less than a year.

*must remember this is soapland*

Jim's scenes usually make me cringe (I know, I'm going to hell) but that one was beautifully executed.

HOWEVER the real highlight of last night's episode was TANYA 'Her Face Should Be On Money Notes' BRANNING, FOR REAL FOR REAL. OH MY GOD. OM NOM NOMING away on that pizza. SPECULATING about Peter's sex life. AMAZING. QOL.

does anyone know the name of the woman bianca had that argument with tonight? she looks familiar but i can't remember the name. she's amazing!
He looks similar to the old Ben ie. he is not hot. At all. Shame/fail.
I feel SO BAD for poor Carol after watching that video :(

Kim. Denise' Sister. ^_^

Lets hope the new Ben is a good actor as if he is he could get some great storylines, and im still sure Ben will be the next gay charactor in EastEnders.

No, he shouldn't. There's already been too many deaths in Albert Square over the past year. Just because the new actor is unattractive or camp doesn't mean he isn't a worthy character. If he can act then he has every right to be a part of the show.

On an unrelated note, in pregnancy spoiler news

either Ronnie or Kat's baby will die of a rare condition a few days after birth in the new year. I suspect it'll be Kat's since Shane Richie was talking about a huge upcoming storyline for the pair of them but similarly Sam Womack said she's got some huge stuff coming up too, so it's anyone's guess. I'd rather it was Kat's I think though because Ronnie has suffered so much pain and misery already, the cursed being that she is.

Another baby related spoiler:

Take this with a pinch of salt but there's rumoured to be some sort of baby swap. That could also be the big storyline Shane Richie mentioned as it could go on for years and years but I don't know who the swapped babies would be if either Kat or Ronnie's baby dies. I can't think of a third heavily pregnant character right now...

ALSO it looks as if Stacey's exit

isn't related to Charlie's rumoured death - his final appearance apparently airs in February whilst Jean and Stacey bow out around Christmas time.

AND Bryan Kirkwood has said that the show will be highly eventful during the week of Corrie's 50th anniversary rather than being low profile and not bothering trying to compete.
