As some of you know, im in the middle of counting down the Top 500 number 1 singles based on their chart run. But I have a problem with the Band Aid and Three Lions singles. Im not sure if I should combine all 3 chart runs for each. Part of me thinks I should combine them becuase its the same song but with the same or partically changed lyrics especially 3 Lions but another on the other side they would be seperate becuase its different vocals on the Band Aid singles (except Bananarama who sing on the first two).

I was gonna include Tony Christie in this but both versions are the same so ive combined them.

What do you think ?

Band Aid I would treat separately - not sure about 3 Lions but probably the same to be consistent.

BTW I misread the poll question & clicked yes for both - so 2 yeses should be no.s

Band Aid definitely no, as it was a different artist name each time.

Three Lions I'd say yes as the crediting was Baddiel, Skinner & The Lightning Seeds each time... and also the difference between all of them are very minor. The OCC also counts all the Three Lions under one entry (although they only decided to do that recently, as evidenced by it coming out of nowhere to #27 on the all time best sellers list on the most recent official publishing of it)

That's how I decide whether to combine chart runs or not.

Also, obviously The Squad's TL shouldn't be combined as a) it charted simultaneously with the original and b) it has a different credit

Oh, and by the way, Three Lions has had 5 chart runs - 96, 98, 02, 06 and 10. Reached #1, #1, #16, #9 and #10 respectively.

Just makin' sure you didn't miss any of it :P

Things is thought 3 Lions lyrics changed so its not the original charting song yet Band Aid kept the same lyrics so its the exact same song, just differnt group of singers. Not sure whats best. Ill just go with the majority on this one lol
if combined three lions could be no.1 :o

Doubt it, it's 'only' had 46 weeks top 75 in total (15 of those in the top 10, 5 at #1). I could cheat to determine if it's behind SOF and IGF which I've figured out the totals of but I won't bother.

The third version of Do They Know It's Christmas? adds an extra verse so Dizzee can get a bit in. First two are indeed identical but with different people though.

Thanks for not cheating AGAIN lol

The three Band Aid hits were a complete re-recording so I wouldn't combine them. Yes, they are the same song but they are basically cover versions by bands with similar names.

The versions of Three Lions, OTOH, are basically remixes which would have been combined if they were released at the same time so I would combine them for your purposes.

I cant believe that after all this ive just realised that I already did this so there was no need for this poll lol

Band Aid no- as they were different artists each time, plus credited under different names (Band Aid, Band Aid 2 and Band Aid 20)

Three Lions- yes, its the same artist, just re-releases- dont however count the 2010 version as that was different artists ^_^

I would say don't count the 98 3 Lions but combine all the other chart runs (96,02,06) as they're for the exact same song aren't they?

Not Band Aid
