Mike Posner's one for November, isn't he?

It's bizarre, by this time last year it was incredibly obvious which artists would be on the Sound of 2011 (Hurts, Ellie, Marina, Delphic) - not so much this year. Natalia Kills is the only really obvious one, but I can't see her being included as she had a top twenty as Verbalicious...

If you want to see who might be popular in the UK in 2011, just look at the US Billboard Chart in early December - any acts you don't recognise, you probably will by next summer. :funky:

Yeah, I started doing that this year actually. I remember looking at the top 3 on US iTunes, and they were Nothin' On You, Hey Soul Sister, and Need You Now, and they all charted in the UK a while later!

I think Clare Maguire is one to watch!
Bruno Mars is gonna be massive in 2011 with his album 'Doo-Wops & Hooligans' and subsequent singles - Is he eligible of BBC Sound Of Poll 2011?

I don't think he is. iirc, at the time of voting, artists can't have had a top 20 single or album.

Gosh, it feels like she's been a 'one to watch' FOREVER by now. Hasn't it been three years? Surely they must be finally launching her next year? She's a shoo-in then.

Depending on when Obsession gets released, Sky Ferreira's probably going to top So2011.

Clare's 'official buzz single' Ain't Nobody is out 18th Oct, so she'll probably get a proper push early 2011 a la Ellie Goulding, Duffy etc. And Obsession is out late Nov :)

I think next year will be the year of Dubstep as it has grown alot over the year.

With no X Factor, the October to December period will certainly be interesting as will how all the contestants past and present perform without having the show to boost their sales.

What no x-factor next year? Damn i hate to say this but could it be possible that Leona will suffer the most since she's the biggest star from the xfactor.

Or used to be the biggest star and she's been on xfactor performing every year since she won.

Cheryl cole for biggest selling single and album ^_^

Anastacia is gonna come back and storm the charts :kink:

Well, she should have a new Sprocky album, God knows how well it'll do.

Clare Maguire is the most probable contender to top the 'Sound of 2011' poll. Lots of money and undoubted promo behind her...

The Naked and Famous, Egyptian Hip-Hop should be the indie-ite names to make the list. Spark is on Marina/Little Boots label so they'll go for the undoubted New Year push.

Two Door Cinema Club hopefully!
I think there are already signs of who is likely to be big in 2011 with Bruno Mars, and perhaps Far East Movement with how "Like A G6" has stormed the US, and how that music is likely to be successful over here. Also, I think others who will be returning with new material are slightly obvious - Lady GaGa, Britney, B.E.P & Beyonce. Furthermore, aren't there some music veterans that we haven't heard from in a while, e.g. Nelly Furtado?
I hope that rock and indie and classical avant garde and rave and electro and singer song writer all do well. Instead of this endless rap/pop $h!t.

Hallelujah!

I hope all the Lady Gaga / Britney Spears / Justin Bieber / Miley Cyrus cheesy crap disappears from the charts in favour of more sophisticated and underground sounds.

Another wishful thing is to stop the influence from the terrible American market replacing it by the imports from the continental Europe that has so much more valuable music!

well, luckily Britney hasn't been big for a while now.

what she needs now is a 'Bionic' style comeback lol

I wish Hurts got more recognition in their home country the way they did in Germany or Poland but I reckon it's rather unlikely.

I predict the next "hannah montanna/miley cyrus" star to come threw from disney in hope to turn her into the next miley once, hannah montanna has finished and stopped being aired.

Oh, and now he's finally announced when his album is released (February), I'm gonna predict big things again for Penguin Prison. I said this last year I think but I mean it this time.

I agree. Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, etc. just make very generic songs. I mean, sure, of course they're popular, because they make songs so generic that everybody sort of likes them, but I'd like something new in the charts. We've been hearing songs like Gaga's for the past 30 years, and it's just boring now. Her next album will be a bunch of songs that sound exactly like Just Dance (and by extension that means they'll sound exactly like Telephone, Poker Face and Bad Romance).

Contrast that with the BEPs, where we had the likes of Boom Boom Pow and Meet Me Halfway on the same album.

I also agree that more European music would be nice in the charts. I think it might be possible, as this year has been very promising, if you compare it to 2009.

And, as someone else mentioned, Like A G6 will probably explode here soon.
