OT, a more credible reason is that The Flood just ins't up to their normal standards.

I agree. Its a good song ... but it isn't great. It has to be added as well ... if Leona's people hadn't put back the release date of Run ... Greatest Day wouldn't have got to number 1 either - so I suppose that throws the 'Robbie curse' theory out of the window!

Very true Kath, I'd forgotten about that.

I agree The Flood isn't a patch on the anthemic Rule the World. They seem to be trying to copy that formula & it just hasn't come off. I'm not as huge fan of Robbie or TT (prefer Robbie on disc but TT live) My daughter purchased both their last albums & I put them both on my ipod. Personally I'm hoping Robbie has a lot of input into the TT album as I definitely rate RKTVS over The Circus, which has long been deleted from my ipod.

I agree The Flood isn't a patch on the anthemic Greatest Day.

'Greatest Day' was a terrible horrible awful song.

Ok, maybe not all that, but it wasn't even 20% as good as 'Rule the world'. 'The flood' is definitely an improvement on it.

I'm not a TT hater though ... but even I can see that all this fuss over The Flood is just that ... fuss - media generated hype, smoke and mirrors. It really isn't great. Plus ... they've been a bit complacent in doing no visual promo for it at all. A song this average, no matter how big the artist, needs more promotion than most.

I'm waiting for the album as I suspect a lot of TT fans like me are doing.

It's good song, not amazing or one of their best, but it's good and far more better than #1's this year we've had.

I think their physcal sales will be big and album could pass 500k in opening week and they have a record breaking tour.

I don't agree the song is average and that it needs more promotion no matter how big the artist is. They are one of the most popular acts ever in UK and it seems they are about to reach a new peak in this era.

It's not like Rihanna's song is any good, it's rubish, or Roll Deep's #1's, please...

The album has had good/great reviews ... but it is more down to Stuart Price than it is to either Robbie Williams or Take That. For all 'the love, the hate, the tantrums, the tears, the break-ups, the make-ups ... the never ending bloody press coverage about the biggest comeback since Lazarus' ... there really isn't that much difference between Take That's music of late and Robbie's. There are even times when one can't differentiate between Barlow's voice and Rob's.

Greatest Day was one of the most boring songs I've ever heard. I remember listening to its first airplay on Radio 1 ... and even their biggest sycophant fan Chris Moyles was dumfounded ... speechless (and his cronies on the show) ... it was that forgettable! I remember Gary Barlow actually having to prompt them for a reaction. Sung live ... brilliant ... as a song on an album ... filler. In fact there are only four good songs on The Circus - SIA, UAN, Hold Up A Light and HDICTT. The rest ... was pretty much filler.

Which is more a sad indictment of this year's chart-toppers, than praise of the TT song...

I found Greatest Day to be a complete nothing of a song tbh, definitely didn't deserve to get to #1. Obviously the hook was quite anthemic but there was no real chorus to speak of and it just seems to drag on forever without really going anywhere other than that one line over and over again. I'd rank their comeback singles like this personally;

Incredible

1. Rule The World

2. Shine

3. The Flood

Brilliant

4. Patience

5. Up All Night

Very good

6. Hold Up A Light (if it counts!)

7. The Garden (likewise)

8. Said It All

Meh

9. I'd Wait For Life

10. Greatest Day

OOps Bertie. I meant Rule the World.   though I still prefer Greatest Day to The Flood. The three songs follow a similar formula with varying success.

I'll edit my post.

The Garden (likewise)

I hated The Garden (that, What Is Love, Julie and Greatest Day are for me the four worst songs on TC album - although WIL - like Greatest Day was performed brilliantly on the tour).

It really is a shame that they didn't release the B side of IWFL (We All Fall Down) as a single instead - it wouldn't have got to number 1 but I'm sure it would have made top 5 ... and been less of an embarrassment and blot on their comeback copybook.

In order though ... my favourite singles since the release in order have been:

Patience, Up All Night, Rule The World, Shine and Said It All (the last one having one of the best videos ever).

Sorry Mikey for going of track ... but at least we haven't come to blows like some folk did yesterday!

True, but IWFL was such a huge flop that I'm certain most people have forgot it even existed and think that Take That just went straight from Shine to Rule The World

Whoops, yep it's veering off topic again, apols - the chart forum police will be after me if I don't stop :drama:

i bought my phsycial copies of this.. but seriously.. there's only the radio-version of the flood + the video on it.. they could have done better.

I hope they get the #1 in the UK because I think the song by Rihanna is awful crap.

The instrumental is on the UK CD single too - I know most people wouldn't care about that but I love instrumentals, TT songs make such atmospheric soundbeds for other things.

The Flood is #1 in the midweeks. No real surprise considering all the pre-orders of physical sales etc - unless they start gaining a lot on Itunes they will trail off during the week.

I also think 'The Flood' is vastly superior to Only Girl In The World, which is a bit rubbish tbh. I am no Rihanna fan but most of her singles are of much higher quality than this.

Edited by De Niro

Only girl is :puke2: ... I like 1/2 of Rihanna's singles but this is one of the worst. I don't really get the trend.

No comparison with the flood.

I'm a huge Rihanna fan, yet I still prefer 'The Flood'!

I didn't even consider it not getting to #1 tbh, hope it starts climbing more on iTunes so it manages it on Sunday!

I actually do think 'The Flood' is a fantastic song, and I wasn't even expecting much from it before I heard it either.

'Greatest Day' however was teeth grindingly awful, 3 sets of the most meaningless lyrics repeated over and over. :puke:

If TT are number one this week no matter all these negative predictions, this will be such a big achievement for them. I mean, they will prove they don't need X factor, they don't need any other promo at all yet they still can make it. Even though they're lazy bustards, fingers crossed for them.

You can hardly say they've done no promotion.

It is not like they haven't had a load of hype over this reunion and single though
