November 3, 201014 yr This is the whole problem with this country.. We've supposedly got this "information age" now, but frankly I reckon we're actually more ignorant than we were 50/60 years ago as a nation.... You only need to look at the BBC comment section to see how ignorant some people are. The discussion on giving prisoners the vote is full of anti-EU gibberish despite umpteen other people pointing out that the European Court Of Human Rights is not an EU body. If anyone should be unable to vote, I would prefer it to be those idiots.
November 3, 201014 yr I seriously hope not..... @ Shelli - seriously though, if you don't even know who the Labour leader is, why on earth are you posting in this Forum...? I should probably point out too, that we don't technically HAVE a Conservative Govt, we have a Coalition government.... I realise I should probably be a bit careful about using such confusing terminology, I probably am expecting you to run before you can actually crawl..... technically no, but lets face it the Lib Dems are counting for nothing, they are basically Conservatives now. I thought the Labour president was Gordon Brown? brb shooting self due to ignorance. Shelli do you watch or read the news?

Okay, they prattle on about the EEC, and say "well, when we joined the EEC in the 70s, it was just about trade", NO IT FUKKIN' WELL WASN'T, there's always been a political dimension to the whole notion of the "European Community".. Did people in the 70s honestly NOT KNOW that in signing up to the EEC we were also agreeing to the Treaty of Rome??? Which lays out POLITICAL as well as Economic union as early as the 1950s. Political unification was ALWAYS in the not-at-all-small print..... -_- Christ, I thought that was understood, but these ignorant politicians in the Tory and UKIP Parties seem to just gloss over this whole pesky "Treaty of Rome" thing and focus on the trade stuff..... Morons....
November 3, 201014 yr technically no, but lets face it the Lib Dems are counting for nothing, they are basically Conservatives now. Well, Nick Clegg, Danny Alexander and Vince Cable certainly are... Menzies Campbell and the backbenchers on the other hand....
November 3, 201014 yr No I dont watch the news, Its too depressing and upsetting. I prefer to live ignorant and be happy. Life is too short to be depressed.
November 3, 201014 yr Author Second chance? They've been in power more than twice... In fairness, the Conservatives between the end of WW2 and Thatcher were probably more left-wing economically than Labour are today. They totally supported Keynesian theories and the Welfare State and full employment. Two of Thatcher's biggest critics were Harold Macmillan and Ted Heath. The big dividing lines between the Tories and Labour in the post-war period were on social issues (gay rights, abortion, corporal punishment) and foreign policy (the Tories were more enthusiastically pro-US than Labour during the Cold War).

Granted, they were certainly more of a lesser evil back then. Oh, imagine having two parties with a chance of power that were BOTH vaguely electable -_-
November 3, 201014 yr I'm 38, and my fully formed political ideologies came from seeing members of my family and my friends families put on the scrapheap by that bitch in blue.. Most of the people she put on the dole never, ever worked again because they destroyed one industry that an area relied upon and didn't do jack sh"t to make sure there was something there to replace it, so not only did the particular Industry itself die, but all the other ancillary businesses that were tied into that and the local economy suffered too. There was something like 15% unemployment in some areas of Scotland, Northern Ireland, the North and Wales.... And then in 1987, the fukkin' bitch gave us the Poll Tax, and used Scotland as the testing ground..... <_< Quite, say you're quite a fan of thatcher in certain parts of Scotland and you will either be beaten or stabbed. Either way you'll be enroute to Ninewells.

Morons.... The anti-EU brigade should be shot tbh. They don't quite seem to grasp that without the European Union we'd be so far up the f***ing creek we'd be lucky to have a twig to grab onto, never mind a canoe, and that paddle would have been long gone.
November 4, 201014 yr Quite, say you're quite a fan of thatcher in certain parts of Scotland and you will either be beaten or stabbed. Either way you'll be enroute to Ninewells. Pretty much, and frankly, they'd deserve the beating IMO... -_- Thatcher is still very much a hated figure in Scotland, and the North of England too... Scotland still doesn't trust the Tories, and probably never will because of "Thatch" and Major...
November 6, 201014 yr No I dont watch the news, Its too depressing and upsetting. I prefer to live ignorant and be happy. Life is too short to be depressed. Did you mis-click, because The Lounge is very close to Perspectives, you know.
December 25, 201014 yr Since we are on the Jeremy 'Hunt' topic - I thought you may find this amusing  YS5mVoqJpUk
January 13, 201114 yr Author OFCOM has said Murdoch's attempt to take over BSkyB should be referred to the Competition Commission ... but, unsurprisingly, Jeremy C(h)unt (who now has media powers following Cablegate) is refusing to do it, out of fear of upsetting Murdoch. http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/thereporters/ro...ps_sky_bid.html
