October 9, 201014 yr That was the most BIZARRE episode of X Factor I have ever seen. And not even in a good way. I feel violated. And not by Aiden, Nicolo or possibly some of One Direction - because that wouldn't be so bad.

October 9, 201014 yr I still can't vote :( I tried ringing them but I got "We're sorry, you are restricted from dialling this number" Maybe it's a blessing in disguise for my phone credit.

October 9, 201014 yr Wagner  ITV2HD is epically f***ing up on Xtra Factor :( It's also happening on freeview so it's not just the HD channel.
October 9, 201014 yr I don't understand the hate for Katie's performance, she's obviously a vile creature personality wise but I thought her performance (ridiculous outfit and faux piano playing aside) was pretty good!
October 9, 201014 yr Author My ranking: AMAZING: 01. Cher Lloyd 02. Aiden Grimshaw 03. Trey-C ------- GREAT: 04. Mary Byrne ------- VERY GOOD: 05. Katie Waissel 06. Matt Cardle ------- POTENTIAL (poor song choice let them down!): 07. Rebecca Ferguson 08. Belle Amie ------- DECENT ENOUGH: 09. 1Direction ------- MEH: 10. Paije 11. F.Y.D ------- CRINGE: 12. Will re-tweak this a bit if I see the repeats and stuff ^_^ I swap Cher with Mary, and place Katie Wassiel in the bottom 4, the rest looks about right to me.
October 9, 201014 yr I thought Mary was very, very good ... and of all the contestants I heard ... 100% on in tune and with full power in her voice. Total turnaround for me because I didn't like her audition, bootcamp or judges houses. However ... I became tired of the whole Cowell Circus and decided to watch Tremors on Freeview 24. Kath Edit ... but of the contestants I did see ... Cher and Katie were in the bottom five ... although Katie was (marginally) better than the truly atrocious Cher. I can't get over how much like a Bratz Doll Cher looks. And Katie reminds me of Becky from Coronation Street ... although Becky is probably a better singer. Edited October 9, 201014 yr by Kathyp
October 9, 201014 yr That was actually a pretty fantastic show. Easily better than anything from last year. It seems that there really is a major concerted effort to liven things up a bit. Simon alluded thousands of time to how bored he was of the standard, and that showed. A very wacky and diverse show, and I LOVED it. Certainly Simon, Dannii and Cheryl are making an effort to think outside of the box for song choices. Louis is still to get that particular memo, but his contestants are so eccentric anyway it doesn't really matter. And Simon calling time on the sob-stories when he was talking to Rebecca - we are going to be watching a very different show this year I think. It's actually difficult to rank the contestants, because obviously some of them (WAGNER) were almost taking part in a totally different competition. But still.... 01. WAGNER I know he was DREADFUL and will be #16 in everyone's list. But by God, he entertained me. He's a likeable form of Jedward. Anyone who resurrects 'Love Shack' for the masses is VERY MUCH A GOOD THING. 02. MARY Perfect. I anticipated being quite irritated by her; I was fully expecting her to come out in her Tesco uniform the amount she plays on it. But vocally she was flawless, and although the song could so easily have been SNOOSEVILLE, there was something very entrancing about Mary's performance, which is bizarre when you consider she's a shy Dawn French lookalike. 03. MATT I LOVE that arrangement, and I will very much be downloading it. I've put him behind Mary, because technically she was better, but there was just something so earnest about Matt's performance that I liked. 04. AIDEN Going into this, I was convinced that Aidan was going to be on my hate-list for this year, because on paper he struck me as being a potential Lloyd Daniels Mark II. But he was fantastic tonight, and there was something incredibly intense and fascinating about his performance; he really seemed to get the feel of the song and looked quite DERANGED. Marvellous stuff. 05. TREYC I don't think the judges can REALLY claim she had the best vocal of the night, given the behemoth that was Tesco Mary. But still the GIRL DONE GOOD. 06. REBECCA She's still near the top of my favourites, because she has an absolutely beautiful tone to her voice. But she really needs to work on her stage presence, because right now she hasn't got any, and thus potentially she could be beaten by Mary and TreyC on every count. I like they're taking her down a retro route though, because the last thing she needs is to be trying to compete with Leona or Alexandra, which is what I was actually anticipating. 07. NICOLO I love this guy's c**t factor. It's like he REALLY couldn't care less, and it's so refreshing. We're not going to be getting any tears or sob stories from him. Although I'm hoping for a DIVA MELTDOWN. ================================================ 08. STORM Quite ridiculous, but again in a watchable way. I know the citizens of Buzzjack will be far more inclinced to cream themselves over the more generic likes of Belle Amie, but I know who I'd much rather watch. And crucially, even when you cast aside the silliness, the guy CAN sing pretty damn well. 09. ONE DIRECTION I should have utterly hated what they did to that poor Coldplay song, but in an utterly unexplainable way, it worked. And I really wanted to hate these guys :( Louis was right on the styling though - the one in the rolled-up trousers looked like he was advertising summer holiday clothes for the ASDA George range. And LOL at them giving Liam a dodgy Beatles haircut. 10. DIVA FEVER Definitely fun, and actually vocally not bad. But I think they're a bit unlucky that they're in this year's contest, because what with Wagner, Katie, Niccolo, Storm et all, the market for a fun, novelty act is really quite crowded. We should have had them instead of Jedward last year. ================================================ 11. CHER The singing is actually pretty ropey - she's out of tune, it sounds muffled, and I can't make out a word of it. The rapping is better, but I stand by what I said earlier - is she REALLY that outstanding at rapping, or is she merely passable and just seems so much better because it's something we've not yet seen on the X Factor? I'm not yet decided. She DOES have stage presence in spades though, so essentially she's the reverse of Rebecca. I know which one would sound better on a recording though. 12. F.Y.D Decent enough, and whilst last year that would probably have been enough alone for a top 3 placing, this year I don't think it will cut it. There's also a too-close resemblance to JLS, which I think might count against them, as JLS are still going fairly strong. 13. PAIJE A good vocal, but he (or the backstage team) totally got the feel of the song wrong. Killing Me Softly DOES NOT work as a bouncy pop number. ================================================ 14. KATIE As soon as she appeared in THAT outfit, I knew exactly why she's been put through, and I'm more convinced than ever that Cherly WAS pressured. It's been fairly obvious throughout that Simon Cowell wanted this series to be different - out with the generic. And whilst that's very much a laudable aim, it's also why Katie was stuck up on the stage instead of poor, brave Gamu. Simon Cowell, along with the rest of the world, has sat back in awe as Lady GaGa totally TORE UP the music industry over the past 2 years. And like any greedy businessman, he wants a bit of that. And of all the hapless wannabes who trotted into those auditions a few months back, who was already halfway there to being a pop music nut? KATIE WAISSEL that's who. Fast forward a few weeks, and VOILA. As it is, I think they got it wrong because although Katie's got a passable voice, it's not anywhere near as strong as most of the other competitors, as evidenced when she got drowned out throughout much of the song by the backing track. And style-wise, they also got it slightly wrong. Katie always had an eccentric style, but it was steeped in retro. I very much doubt she'd have ever chosen to dress up as a ropey Power Ranger villain. 15. BELLE AMIE Buzzjack, naturally, is all geared up to LOON over these girls purely on the basis that they're a girlband. And undoubtedly Simon has a point; when the Saturdays are the closest thing Britain has to girl power right now, there's clearly a massive gap in the market. But on the basis of tonight, Belle Amie need a LOT more work to be capable of filling that void. Tonight wasn't bad, it was just TOTALLY mediocre, and were it not for poor hapless John, it would be the first performance that you'd forget about. And in a swollen contest of 16, that's not good. It's all very well people saying they just need time, but at this stage in the X Factor, time is something you're not normally going to be awarded. They're in trouble. 16. JOHN Poor brave John. He's got a decent voice, but it was just totally DULL. And as I was saying with Belle Amie; dull is going to be FATAL this year. Simon was quite right to criticise the song choice, although rather than arguing about New Zealand, he'd have been better off pointing out that One Sweet Day is a really, generic reality TV standard that was NEVER going to help John stand out from the crowd. He'll be bottom 3 I think...
October 9, 201014 yr Katie would've been better going down the Ellie Goulding quirky route...not Lady Gaga on a budget.
October 9, 201014 yr And Simon calling time on the sob-stories when he was talking to Rebecca - we are going to be watching a very different show this year I think. No! As much as he says he wants to get rid of the sob stories ... it is Simon and his production crew who actively seek out the sob stories. Previous contestants have said they didn't want to talk about 'sob stories' but have been pushed to by the production crew. The show will be the same old, same old. I gave up part way through to watch Tremors. Anyone with a mind of their own would. Kath
October 9, 201014 yr Katie would've been better going down the Ellie Goulding quirky route...not Lady Gaga on a budget. I agree actually, she just looked ridiculous and it'll do her no favours. Diana Vickers / Ellie Goulding style would've suited her so much better.
October 9, 201014 yr Overall Ranking: Outstanding Mary Matt Aiden Great Rebecca Nicolo (I just wish he didn't have the shades...him more than anyone else in the contest is someone who needs to start connecting with the public) Cher Treyc Diva Fever Good 1 Direction Wagner (He's just weird but I like it) Average Storm Paije Belle Amie FYD Poor/Boring John Katie
October 9, 201014 yr Katie would've been better going down the Ellie Goulding quirky route...not Lady Gaga on a budget. I was actually thinking Duffy... I did say to myself earlier it's a shame Warwick Avenue wasn't a #1. because much as I'm not liking Katie, I think she COULD rock that one. Kath Much as I would normally jump at the opportunity to kick Simon Cowell, I don't think so. Obviously the sob stories ARE still there, but there are significantly less of them then last year. We've got Rebecca and her kids, Mary and her Tesco checkout, and that's it that I can think of. There's been much more of a focus on arrogance and quirk this year than on sob story. Simon Cowell's not a stupid man; he must know that the public have been getting sick of hearing the same old "my dog Bouncer died when I was 3 years old and Bouncer would have wanted me to come and win the X Factor" nonsense.
October 9, 201014 yr Well, that dragged a bit  My scores: FYD- I dont really remember it, very average, cant see them lasting long, 4/10 Matt Cardle- I thought that was really good, took a contemporary song and proved he can do a fast genre, very good 8/10 John Adeleye- again, forgettable- he was boring and it just dragged- could well be in trouble 3/10 Rebecca Ferguson- shes a good singer, but this was a bit dull, decent enough I guess 6/10 Storm Lee- that wasnt a drop at all?! anyway, hes a decent singer but the whole thing just doesnt work, I'll be shocked if he makes the final 10 5/10 Belle Amie- They were out of tune at points, but they were OK, it was a bad song choice really- I can see them going tomorrow 5/10 Cher Lloyd-I thought this was really good, proves shes not a one trick pony and she can do other genres, one of my favourites of the night 8/10 Diva Fever- I dont find them as half as funny or interesting as Jedward, just annoying- this was purely karaoke and terrible 2/10 Paije Richardson- Yeah, he did pretty good I thought, nothing special, but decent 7/10 Katie Waissel- I think she gets too much hate, kudos to her for remembering the words! plus whilst it was pretty weak overall, shes shown she has a decent voice 6/10 Mary Byrne-this was pretty good, by far the best of the overs 7/10 Nicolo Festa- I quite enjoyed it tbh, it was mildly amusing I guess 7/10 One Direction- I actually really liked this! Im no fan of theirs, but I think they made it their own 8/10 Wagner- thats all really! Im so happy he got through, that performance was so funny and genius and had me in stitches! 9/10 just for pure LOL Aiden Grimshaw- for me, this was the best of the night easily, it was creepy and haunting and yet worked brilliantly a genuine 9/10 TreyC Cohen- started off quite flat, but got a lot better as it went along, a good performance overall 8/10 I think after tonight Wagner, John, Belle Amie and FYD are the most at risk- its quite bad having loads of acts as a LOT of them got forgotten over the time and unrelated I know, but the Yeo Valley advert
