Silent charity single, eh? New Zealand did it first (and succeeded  ) back in December 2007.

technically not silence, just only dogs can hear it.

still brilliant though.

Calling them morons might be a bit far, but I do sort of agree with whoever said that. Many of the people supporting the RATM campaign went around all like "Yeah, the music we listen to is "proper" music. Your music is so boring. You can't think for youself, you just let the charts decide what you like. I've never watched the X Factor, but Joe McElderry is a horrible person, blah, blah, blah".

Some people were really taking it too far. For most people it was a bit of fun, but others used it as an opportunity to mock people who liked Lady Gaga, Black Eyed Peas, etc, which was just pathetic. Especially when the song they were hyping up wasn't really much better than the likes of Bad Romance and Meet Me Halfway (infact, I'd say it was worse).

by the way, i followed the RATM campaign closely from near the start, been highly against generic music for years, and saw many responses from all over the internet about the campaign, as well as going to the victory show, and i never saw one person saying Joe MCElderry is a horrible person or mocking people who like chart music (hey if people want to listen to generic crap created by people for money go ahead), i think you are possibly thinking what you want to think.

Can someone link me to the Facebook group/page for this? I can't seem to find it...

the link is in my sig.

Lest we forget wasn't there a rumour earlier this year that there was a Facebook campagin to get 'God Save The Queen' by Sex Pistols to no. 1? That didn't materailise. So this '4:33' could well and truly plummet.

Anyways, I agree with Knightr634 'Fairytale Of New York' is my fave Xmas single of all time - everything about the song works brilliantly and would indeed be a well deserved no. 1, and as mentioned would be a fitting tribute to Kirsty MacCall.

This year's X Factor winner will be covering....

if that is true I have died a little inside and would hope Billy Bragg stopped it from happening.

I personally think it'd be f***ing amazing. Just for the sake of laughing!

It's a Mikey post coupled with a :P

Of course it's not true!!!

I think the chances of Billy Bragg allowing one of his songs to be used are precisely zero.

David Bowie allowed his song to be used as the XFF charity song.

David Bowie allowed his song to be used as the XFF charity song.

Billy Bragg isnt David Bowie though is he.

It makes me laugh that people accuse those who buy X Factor related stuff as sheep - but isn't this the same thing? If this goes ahead you will be spending 79p or 99p on literally nothing. Considering many people face losing their jobs in the public sector - I can't believe people will willingly throw money down the drain just to spite something.

Again if you want to stop X Factor - FAIRYTALE OF NEW YORK!

can you please learn how to comment statuses on facebook it is getting annoying to look at the page and see your every response, including a copy and paste from the post i have quoted here, just posted on the wall, everyone who is looking at it just thinks you are an ignorant moron who completly misses the point and really needs to find something better to do with their time, which is obviously true.

great contribution above poster. this is why i hate chart chat, most people fail to even say why they think such things.

Sorry, I will try to explain it a bit.

I really don't get all these campaigns, just like the public buy what they want instead of doing such a campaign. I really don't understand all the hate against X Factor. I you like it, you watch it. If you don't like it, you don't. If you like the winners song, you buy it and if you don't like it, you don't buy it. Ofcourse I understand that the Christmas #1 isn't very exciting anymore but still.

And then I also really don't understand why someone would choose a song like this for the campaign. If you do it, then do some Christmas song. But that's just my opinion ofcourse.

woah i wasnt actually expecting a decent response,

i think the 'buy what you like' is a fair opinion, although there are a lot of people who seemed tp be programmed into watching this show for months and then buy the single regardless of who wins, the problem i have (or one of the problems i have) with it is that Simon Cowell is basically using the x factor as one big advertising campaign so he can make $h!t loads off the single in the end, and uses the christmas market as his way to get most sales possible, its about making money not music which is my problem with it as a passionate music fan.

As for this song being chosen, (although technically not a song), is that it is humourous and is also making the point that people would perfer to hear silence rather than the trash that the x factor releases (although i do believe the campaign isnt trying to be against the x factor), which is why i think it is an excellent choice. in fact it wasnt even chosen the guy didnt think 'i know i'll do a christmas number 1 campaign' he though 'how funny would it be if silence was number 1'

its also important to note that there is a difference between good pop/chart music and xfactor winning material!!
Oh FFS, I'd rather have Katie Waissel to win and be Xmas number 1 than this, how pathetic, and not just cause I'm an a XF fan!!! If a campaign must be made, why not just choose a song that is out the same week or some month? Doesn't matter anyway, Cheryl Cole will be Xmas no.1 with The Flood :kink:
