absolutely scott.... i detest the way that this so called 'girl power' has infact returned 'girls' into being sex objects, which is exactly what the punk generation liberated females from!

maybe 'punk' was real girl power.

100% in agreement mate. We need more female role models like Siouxsie Sioux, Kate Bush or Deborah Harry; all of whom were teenagers when they started their music careers, but they never sold themselves or their sexuality short...

But women like that are bloody thin on the ground these days, you have to look to the Metal genre for examples of excellent, powerful female role models... (Cristina Scabbia, Tarja Teruenen and Sharon Den Adel are names that spring to mind....)

The whole idea of "Girl Power" was nicked from the Indie/Punk "Riot Grrrl" movement of the early 90s anyway - it was bands like Silverfish, Huggy Bear and Bikini Kill that came up with the slogan... And they actually bloody meant it cos they were out and out neo-Feminists....

I hate stand Lily, she may be a good singer, but she needs to stop bitching about everyone else.

I love all the sluts. Britney will probably clean up now after having baby. But she will always be my fave $l*t ^_^

Well, at least you call them sluts and dont see them as role-models....

Does posing naked for a mag despite being very pregnant count?

Lily Allen has criticised Victoria Beckham for being a bad role model.

and you said that the Claire Curtis-Thomas MP thing was trivial

I didn't move it here mate.. And the debate moved on to the morality of the fashion Industry and a general debate on Pop Stars images, so it actually [/i]did evolve from something that started off as a trivial thing over on Pop, but got more of a debate going as the momentum grew, so I have no problem with it being here...

I hate it when they show videos by Christina and Britney. It's just so disgusting to watch those foul slappers dancing around in thongs :puke2:

It´s mainly gay people who listen to Victoria Beckham or Pussycat Dolls, not actual females.

thats rather a sweeping statement isnt it?...

maybe we ought to ask the sites gay men!!!

Why do you think lot thinks she's so great when 1000 people have said BOTH those things already  Vicky B is too thin, yes and she's a bad model and EVERYONE has noticed that -_- As for the Pussycat Dolls I don't like them but in what way do they promote prostitutaion? Because they DARE to wear revealing clothes? Unless it's obviously used to sell the song like Dirty and Call On Me there's nothing wrong as that's just what some people wear but yes the Pussycat Dolls aren't really normal clothes are they? lol.. Then again a lot of women's definition of a slapper or $l*t is someone who's thinner than them or has bigger t*ts than them.

its not that shes so great.... she isnt!, but her points are very accurate.

you (nicky) might be used to seeing pop stars wearing next to nothing, your generation know nothing else realy. but us miserable old buggers generation fought against sexism, females being portrayed as nothing more then sex objects. the pcd's , rachel ( :P), and just about every female pop act since the spice girls rejected that in favour of the '$l*t' look. (of course its middle aged men controlling these dumb talentless bints anyway <_< )

personally i dont find modern pop princesses 'sexy' just sluttish. they are bad roll models and its no coincidence that underage sex is rife.

an artiste ought to be able to sell their product regardless of how they look in a video.

Still if you agree with Lily's argument about the PCD's videos & their influence, then surely Lily's Smile video encourages mugging, robbery & arson. <_<

kids are far more likely to try out sex then arson or mugging <_<

...... and one 3 minute vid hardly compares to the hordes of female 'roll model' pop stars who barely wear a thing when promoting their product, that are in our faces all the time.

I agree with Lily's point regarding nudity - however I think the blame belongs with MTV & their love of gratuitous videos by the likes of hiphop artists by 50 Cent, R.Kelly & Puff Daddy, etc & the modern Pop Princesses led by Britney & Xtina, etc.

As for the Spice Girls, I've read in US magazine Blender that the PCDs were recently upset (3/4 months ago) because they had been criticised by Victoria Beckham for being bad role models for exactly the same comment that Lily Allen has just made.

At least the Spice Girls wrote their own material & eventually sacked their manager to manage themselves.
