This week, it looks like God-awful YouTube band Sons Of Admirals could have a hit on their hands with their hands with their industrial-indie take on the Cat Stevens classic 'Here Comes My Baby.' In light of this, here are some of the much better versions of the song that have been released over the years that they should've consulted before destroying this classic.

 

First, the original version recorded by Cat Stevens:

 

 

This was then covered by The Tremeloes in 1967 in a Beatlesque version and got to number 4 in the chart, and so far is the only charting version of the song:

 

 

Country band The Mavericks, more famed for their hit 'Dance the Night Away,' recorded a passable country version of the song with a cheesy video for their greatest hits album in 1999 (shouldn't that be greatest hit?). It still gets played regularly on Radio Ulster, much to my dismay.

 

 

And finally, my favourite version of the song, Yo La Tengo's 1990 power pop cover of the track from their covers album 'Fakebook.' They dispensed with the origina riff and wrote their own, and I find it to by the most intimate version of the song.

 

 

So there you go guys. Before you think of covering a song, make sure you choose one that hasn't been done many times before, and a whole lot better too.
