OK. Now that we took the number 1 spot, how much does she need to sell to be number 1 next week?

The US chart isn't based on sales alone. (You probably already know that but I thought I'd point that out just in case you don't :P)

I think the sales barrier for a #1 début (to overcome airplay) is normally something like 250k? Someone correct me if I'm wrong. That seems a bit low to me but I seem to remember that figure being mentioned around the time of the release of Britney's 3. She'll be fine, she'll almost certainly get #1. She might beat Britney's insanely fast airplay gains too.

Yep i know! Britney debut there with 410k if i'm correct but don't know which is the lowest that can ensure that someone will be number 1, on sales alone! Although, i think she will sell more.

It looks like Katy Perry is heading back to #1 next week, so she needs to clear Firework's combined sales and airplay points - I think GaGa needs sales in the region of 350-400k.

I think 250k is a bit low, I think one of Taylor Swift's singles got about 300k first week and debuted at #2 or #3. But I guess it can vary from week to week, as some songs could peak on airplay & sales that exact same week...

I think GaGa will be #1 next week. (Well i hope so anyway).

Don't forget the Grammy's are on Sunday, and she's performing 'Born This Way'. She'll bet getting A LOT of media coverage this weekend, and into next week too, that can only help. :D

She'll have only two and a half days to sell enough for being NEXT WEEK's #1

However, she'll definitely do it the week after.

Didn't someone post that Apple forecasted 500k sales in the first three days? I think she'll be able to overcome that after how quickly she got to #1.

Born This Way's sales should be colossal. She got to #1 so fast!

Yeah, and I think I read that iTunes/Apple were sending out an e-mail to all of their US customers to tell them about it

Gaga dominates! Shocked to see I Do by Colbie Caillat @ 2! :o

That is one RIDICULOUS lead. If it's like that after just under 7 1/2 hours, think what it'll be like after 48

The next #1 is the 1000th #1 of Hot 100 so that's nice achievement to have as well.

I presume that means the 1,000th unique #1?

So for example Grenade and Live Your Life wouldn't be counted as 3 different #1s each?

That is a great achievement for her, shame the honours of that went to frakking Cascada here -_- Michael Jackson could have got it, he was so close :(

Although the UK figure includes Bohemian Rhapsody, 3 Elvis songs, My Sweet Lord and Three Lions twice I believe, as they were released under different serial numbers and considered different songs for that reason. So if you exclude that the 1,000th #1 was actually Run This Town, which isn't anywhere near as bad but not a particularly memorable song either. Although I've probably missed out at least one other song which is counted twice when considering Cascada the 1,000th #1 and come to think of it I'm not even totally certain MSL was counted twice. I think it was though. Agh. :drama:

You could make an argument about Three Lions and Three Lions '98 being different songs but since the OCC clearly consider them the same now I think it's fair to render that argument invalid now.

Yep, 1000 different number 1!

Cascada is the 1000th number 1 in UK. What a shame!

Go GaGa! Monster lead!!!!

Oh, but if that's supposed to be the 1000th different #1, GaGa doesn't need to get it this week. If britster is right and 'Firework' returns to #1, GaGa could then manage it the week after and still be the 1000th different #1?

Gosh, Cascada isn't THAT bad! Why all the hate for her? There is those few artists who get a lot of hate on here, even though I can't work out what they're done wrong, like Katy B and Kate Nash.

Yes! I forgot that case! So if not this week, then next week GaGa will be 1000th number 1 of US (hope so)! :yahoo:

*them

Evacuate The Dancefloor was just horrible and it didn't help that it was such a blatant attempt to capitalise off the success of Lady GaGa (look at things linking up again!) by doing a carbon copy of Just Dance  Cascada are surely one of the least original bands ever. Thankfully some good dance is starting to do well in the charts again now (the likes of Edward Maya, Inna, Swedish House Mafia, Chase & Status, etc.) :D

Anyway, as Jack said, it doesn't matter whether or not GaGa gets it next week as if it's not her it'll be Katy returning to #1.
