I have yet to hear a single urban song that isn't completely terrible. And all urban songs sound exactly the same regardless of the artist, hence 'faceless'. I disapprove of the genre as a whole. There are songs I like in just about every single genre except urban, which is just awful.

Conclusion: Urban is $h!te.

Hey there vidcapper.

What about Johnny Cash, Bray?

I do admit that a lot of popular country music is utter garbage but you could argue that for just about any genre really - the fact that it is so popular in America seems to wind you up for some reason! :P

Miranda Lambert cannot be included in the 'awful' or 'faceless' categories :o She is a GODDESS! Sugarland are amazing too! But yeah, the rest are awful!

Sugarland  Really like them.

Well, I do like Cash's version of 'Hurt' I suppose. I don't think I've ever consciously heard any of Cash's own songs.

I may have slightly (completely) overreacted but I still think country as a whole is the worst mainstream genre and every song from it (at least recently) has sounded exactly the same. I'm aware this can be said about loads of other genres though.

:o On The Floor is just ready to overtake Born This Way! Probably in a few hours! How is she doing on radio airplay?
People liked Country music when Shania Twain was still around :(

That was almost ANOTHER LIFETIME though. It's been too long, Shania!!! I miss her out-and-out zany pop.

How old was Bray when Shania was dominating the charts? Like 2 years old? Such a weird thought

Anyway, I don't think we should judge America. I'm sure they would find these random "faceless" dance acts that occasionally blow up in Europe only for the act in question to disappear completely (bar a few exceptions) after quite weird too. At least these country artists are consistently making the charts!

I was about 6 or 7  but remember her clearly.

But there's never 21 different indistinguishable dance acts in the chart at the same time.

The closest approximation is when 'landfill indie' was ruling the charts in the UK in the mid-2000s.

Clearly you haven't seen some charts from the early 1990s then!

Anyway, it was the general point (that you clearly missed): dance is almost like Europe's "own" music genre, whereas country is like America's "own" music genre. Sometimes they cross over and dance can do well in America, etc, and indeed like now you have much dance-influenced pop music doing well in America, but in terms of "pure" dance its appeal is limited to only the odd hit - at least in the last decade or more - similar to the UK with country music. But if an American was to look at a European chart they'd be thinking exactly the same as you in terms of these faceless dance hits. The number of them is not that significant.

And as an aside, the assertion that indie, landfill or otherwise, was ruling the UK charts in the mid-2000s is SO untrue and really gets on my nerves. It's like a myth that's somehow spread and is now taken as fact. Seriously, it was never the case!! Urban music was doing much better than it in those years, for one.
