Sorry for having to post that, but I do have valid reasons for thinking they sound similar. I'm not completely crazy! There's the factual things, the tempoes, key signatures, time signatures and, to an extent, genre can all be proven to be almost identical in all 4 songs, and people will have to acknowledge that, especially if they want to go around saying "the songs sound completely different".

Likewize, it was wrong for me to say they sound "exactly the same", because I'm sure you could get a list of differences between the songs (although perhaps not as fundamental as the tempo and genre), and I'll have to acknowledge those things too.

I think the main part where we differ is the "art" part of music. I could use a metronome and say factually, that all 4 songs have almost the same tempo, but we can't usually factually say "This song conjures up excitement in all its listeneners", because it will conjure up different emotions in every listener. To someone who has listened to pop music all their life, they might be very accustomed to the music, and be able to tell the songs apart easily. Someone who has listened to heavy metal or dubstep music most of their life might feel they all sound the same, whilst the pop music fan might think the heavy metal or dubstep songs all sound the same.

But people can see why I think the songs sound similar though, without saying I'm crazy in the head?

I'm also surprised about Roll Deep underperforming. Is Alesha Dixon really that unpopular? I can't see why she would be, although it could be the case. I could understand Drummer Boy not going top 10, because while I loved it (the chaotic mess ), I could understand why people wouldn't like it, and it didn't get great promotion. But I thought Take Control would've been huge. I think it's had similar promotion to Green Light, so I would've expected at least top 10! :o

hmm gonna be an intresting chart battle for top 10 :( I'm thinking Barba Streisand, Stay will drop out with Ne-Yo and Will.I.AM to get in but with sats combined 11th i think the physicals might help sats get 10 with Will.I.Am getting 9th.

I don't think she's unpopular, but I do think becoming a judge on SCD has damaged her popularity somewhat, which I think for someone like Alesha was a big selling point in addition to her music. I know that my mum and dad have gone off her, though they're not really part of the downloading public anyway. Of course releasing rubbish songs like Drummer Boy hasn't helped, but there was really no excuse for To Love Again to flop as badly as it did.

That said, I don't think she's the one dragging Roll Deep down! It's their own fault for releasing Good Times - part 3.

Wow.. the race for the top 10 is gonna be so close (Stay,Higher,One In A Million, Barba Streisand, Will.I.Am are all so close !!! )
Altought Stay is only being released officially on the 15th of November, the song deserves better than #115
Stay - Hurts  Addicted to it. Apparently they are going to be on the x factor? I highly doubt it though, hope they climb top 40 at the very least.

Thing with Roll Deep their last two hits were released on quieter weeks in spring/summer. Now we are into November there are all the big artists releasing tracks and they are getting lost in the pack.

Alesha isnt unpopular just doesnt have much of a fanbase. I dont think Ive ever seen a "come on Alesha" on this thread.

How has James Blunt managed to actually be higher on his 2nd week than he was in his 1st week on iTunes?

People may have heard it on the chart shows for the first time and then downloaded it?

That show on bbc one last night forgot what it is called :(

Yeah, to be honest, I can't see anybody deciding not to get a song that they like because Alesha is on it.

And you're right about Take Control. I think it would fit on a spectrum, sonewhere between the other two singles. However, I thought that would help the song's popularity, if anything.

OK, fair enough - you make a good musically based argument :P I still don't think you can call someone out as being generic solely for their #1s being all in the same genre, similar tempo and minor key though
