November 7, 201014 yr Good read :P It might be interesting to note on next week's commentary that before this year there were no hit singles bearing the title 'The Flood', and then 3 came along at once (well, a slight delay from Katie Melua to Take That/Cheryl Cole, but still) CC's The Flood can't really be called a hit yet I suppose, but it has made the top 100 (at #81 this week)
November 7, 201014 yr Bon Jovi have 4 #2's in a row and would have six if This Left Feels Right didn't fail to do it They also had five #1's in a row from New Jersey to Crush. Both Rod Stewart and Bryan Adams sang on All for Love (#2, 1994). Adams was at his career peak then, now Stewart is doing much better. Edited November 7, 201014 yr by SKOB
November 7, 201014 yr It is unlikely that the Bon Jovi Album will get higher than its current No.2 Position. Therefore, they become the first Act, to have had more than 3 consecutive No.2 Albums, in the UK. Until this Week they were one of the 7 Acts who'd had 3 UK No.2 Albums in a row. MOST CONSECUTIVE UK NUMBER 2 ALBUMS (To W/E 13th November 2010) 4 No.2 Albums in a row BON JOVI (2005 - 2010) 3 No.2 Albums in a row 1) CLIFF RICHARD (1959 - 1961) 2) SHADOWS (All 3 with Cliff Richard) (1959 - 1961) 3) JAM (1982 - 1991) 4) PET SHOP BOYS (1987 - 1990) 5) A-HA (1985 - 1988) *** 6) SHERYL CROW (1998 - 2003) *** *** = THE ONLY ACTS IN THE LIST NEVER TO HAVE HAD A NO.1 ALBUM JON BON JOVI - He's had 8 No.2 Albums - 6 in Bon Jovi, & 2 Solo. CHERYL COLE - And she becomes the 1st Female Artist to have had more than 1 No.1 Album in a Group, & then to have managed 2 Solo No.1 Albums. She had 2 No.1 Albums in Girls Aloud, & now has her 2nd Solo No.1 Album. Annie Lennox had 3 No.1 Albums in The Eurythmics, & 2 Solo No.1's - but, The Eurythmics were a Duo, not a Group. Alison Moyet had 1 No.1 Album in Yazoo, & 2 Solo No.1 Albums - but, Yazoo were a Duo, not a Group. Diana Ross had 3 No.1 Albums with The Supremes, (1 of them had The Temptations on it, too), but, she's only ever had 1 No.1 Solo Album - 'One Woman - The Ultimate Collection' - No.1 in 1994. November 7, 201014 yr Isn't it a bit weird to not count duos as groups? Even the best dividers in the world, The academy of Grammys, puts duos and groups together. Although they indicate "... duo OR group" No - I don't see any reason to count Duo's as Groups. For example, if 2 people were protesting outside a Court, or whatever, & they were mentioned on the TV News, I cannot see them being referred to as a 'Group of people'. A 'Couple of people', or '2 people' - yes. But, not a Group. I never see 2 people as a Group. Anyhow - even if I did regard a Duo as a Group, Cheryl Cole still gains a Chart Feat. She would then become the first Female from an all Female Group, who had No.1 Albums in the Group, & then had 2 Solo No.1 Albums. (Neither Annie Lennox, nor Alison Moyet can claim that - for The Eurythmics, & Yazoo were Male/Female Duo's/Groups). Edited November 7, 201014 yr by zeus555
November 8, 201014 yr Hmm the definition itself is clear but still I consider duos and groups together when talking about chart success. Just to simplify things. It's tricky enough to count 'featuring' credits: for example 'Heartbreaker' by will.i.am featuring Cheryl Cole is will.i.am track, not a Cheryl Cole track '3 Words' by Cheryl Cole featuring will.i.am is Cheryl's single and shouldn't be counted as will.i.am's single. Run This Town by Jay-Z, Kanye West & Rihanna should be counted as a no. 1 single for all three because the credits are equal. I also think that Girls Aloud singles should not be counted as Cheryl's entries. Music Week did that last week and it just didn't make sense at all. It's not like GA had hits just because of her. If we continue that road soon tracks like Everybody Hurts by Helping Haiti could be considered a hit for all acts involved which is just ridiculous.
November 8, 201014 yr Author A duo consisting of two named people (e.g. Simon and Garfunkel) would not be thought of as a group. Therefore, a duo with a single name (e.g. Yazoo) should also not be thought of as a group.

November 8, 201014 yr True, it was in the UK. It was probably Billboard who credited it for all three.
November 9, 201014 yr SKOB - I have used Cheryl's Girls Aloud Hits, to do 2 sets of Chart Statistics, in the past 2 Weeks. Last Week's was pointing out that Cheryl has now 'Sung' on 26 Top 10 Singles - 20 in Girls Aloud, 1 in Helping Haiti, & 5 since she left the Group. However - in a Chart Book - I would not put her Girls Aloud, or Helping Haiti Singles, in the Cheryl Cole Section. But - when I work out 'Which Acts have sung on the most Top 10 Hits', (or 'The most No.1 Hits' etc.), I do include ALL of Cheryl's Top 10/No.1 etc. Hits. That's because such Lists need me to count them all. The same for any other Chart Act. 2 of my Lists are:, 'The Acts Who Have Been On The Most No.1 Singles', & 'The Acts Who Have Been On The Most No.1 Albums'. Those 2 Lists, (which I up-date every few Months), require me to look at ALL the No.1's that an Artist has been on - including Charity Records - like Band Aid etc. But - in a Chart Book, I would not put all of each Acts No.1's in their Section. (For example - I would not put Robbie's No.1's/Hits in the Take That Section - nor Take That's No.1's/Hits, in the Robbie Section). As for Hits that 'Feature' etc. other Acts. As long as the Acts are named, those Hits should go to each of the Acts on them. So, 'Love The Way You Lie', would go in both the Eminem, & Rihanna Sections, in Chart Books. Band Aid etc. is different - the Acts are credited under a Group name - so it should only go in the Band Aid Section. I only count all of an Acts Hits & No.1's etc., if my List requires it. It does not mean that I'd do the same thing in Chart Books. The 2 matters are entirely different, & do not require me to follow the same 'Rules. Edited November 9, 201014 yr by zeus555
November 9, 201014 yr I've just read your commentary... it took me all of about 2 minutes to notice your subliminal message! :D

I have always relied on chart books and been thinking that way. Maybe I should take a broader perspective. The 'featuring' thing is quite funny though...Why can't the songs be credited just 'x & y' or 'x duet with y'. Why 'featuring'? Damn those rappers! I have my US & UK chart blog where I collect and share the chart info...The nerdy stuff. Edited November 10, 201014 yr by SKOB
